DA Weekly Deals: 29+ Books Under $2.99

New Update:

Jane has conned me into doing this list for her although she does all the formatting. "Find me 29+ books that are 2.99 and under from these publishers", she asks. This is what I've come up with, over 70 books! She said I should ask you for feedback.

One caveat also, this list takes a lot of mindless work (Jane says its perfect for me?) and I would imagine that these prices could change at any hour/day or week. The only control we have is when we post the thread. Again, we...

PRIDE WEEK: YA Recommendations by John

If you're interested in any of the books I'm about to mention in this post, comment below about your favorite LGBTQ YA romance or why you're interested in reading the book(s) I've mentioned.  This will enter you in a giveaway for these three books that will end 4AM EST on Friday.

As most people know, YA isn't in the same genre as romance novels.  A lot of YA (Young-Adult) fiction deals with strong romances at the center or background of its plots, and it's always a challenge to find YA...

REVIEW: Dead Reckoning by Charlaine Harris

Dear Ms. Harris:

I must admit to a bittersweet experience reading Dead Reckoning, in part because I know there are only two more books to come in a series that has given me such reading pleasure for almost ten years now (I came to the series a couple of books in). Sookie is one of my favorite fictional characters – her blend of ordinary and exceptional, vulnerable and tenacious, pragmatic and idealistic has made her more realistic and sympathetic to me than many other series heroines. Also...

Tuesday Midday Links: RWA Tips Hints and other stuff

RWA is coming up and even though I have been degowned (as opposed to defrocked) I am going to meet up with editors, authors, publicists, and other bloggers and readers.  As part of the TBR newsletter, I've offered some tips on packing.  I'm a big believer in carry on only but this year will be a real struggle.

I'm also meeting with various houses to find out what new titles for which we readers should be on the look out.  Is there anything you want to know?  Here are a list of publishing...

PRIDE WEEK: Book Awards and GLBT Books

In 2009, the Lambda Literary Fund changed the criteria for entries to their literary awards. Rather than reward great books with LGBT content, the Lammies now require LGBT authorship as well: "it should be noted that the Lambda Literary Awards are based principally on the LGBT content, the sexual orientation of the author, and the literary merit of the work" (emphasis and Cambridge comma added). Despite the fact that quite a few previous Lammie honorees are/were distinctly NOT LGBT but wrote ...

REVIEW: The Flame and the Flower by Kathleen Woodiwiss

Dear Romancelandia.

This is the book. This one started…well, that's up for debate. It certainly started a new type of romance. Yes, there were romances before TFATF. There were bestselling authors who unabashedly wrote romance, even in the same style as TFATF: The Sheik (1919), Gone With the Wind (1936), Rebecca (1938), Forever Amber (1944). The 1960s was the age of the Gothic. (Apparently an editor looked at the steady sales over 25 years since the publication of Daphne DuMaurier's Rebecca

PRIDE WEEK: Introduction and BDSM Recommendations by Sarah

We're celebrating Pride Week here at Dear Author! (I'd post a GIF with glittery rainbows here, but I like writing for DA and don't want Jane to cut me. ;)

Each day this week, DA reviewers will be posting something to commemorate Pride. Today I (Sarah) am recommending three m/m BDSM romances I consider to be the best (of those I've read so far). Tomorrow, I'll be posting an opinion piece about Book Awards and LBGT books. On Wednesday, John will be recommending his favorite three Young Adult...

Today we have the May/June/July/August preview post from Pocket. This post is sponsored by Pocket in that they agreed to giveaway books in exchange for posting about the books. It's a win, win. Dear Jane: Is there any way around the whispersync charges on Amazon?

Dear Jane is a column wherein you write in questions about ebooks and I try to find an answer. If you have a question, send it to jane at dearauthor dot com.

Dear Jane:

I'm a fairly new e-book convert. I first bought my Kindle to use when I travel, but now I find myself using it all the time. I love it! And no little thanks to the great info you've been putting up on e-books and e-readers over the years. Thanks!

However, as my e-book purchases become more and more, I'm becoming...
