Guest Opinion from Reader DM: The Defeated Heroine
Back in April, I had an exchange with poster Liza Lester in response to Janine's review of Petals and Thorns.
But it occurred to me that if the forced seduction were presented as (rather mild, actually) BDSM erotica, if it were explicitly a game, or limited to a scene, I would have no problem it. The broader context bothers me.
And I responded:
…it's the broader context we're not discussing. Do we want to talk about the surfeit of paranormal books that feature heroines who go from...

Dear Ms. James,
I vaguely recall hearing about your two previous books, Broken Wing and Libertine's Kiss, and being a bit intrigued. They sounded like a bit of something different, with unusual settings and good reader buzz. When the opportunity came recently to read The King's Courtesan, I jumped at the chance.

What Sarah's been reading, August-ish
The middle of August is the start of the school year for me, so on the one hand I've got way too much to do to find time for reading, but on the other, reading is a stress reliever for me, so I seem to be reading more. Or at least, sampling more and reading more shorts. All but two of these stories are m/m romance.
Sweet Savage Love by Rosemary Rogers (Avon): I'm researching the 1970s blockbuster historical romances this semester and presenting on it in November, so I should be reading a lot o...
REVIEW: Snapped by Laura Griffin
Dear Ms. Griffin,
When reading your romantic suspense books, one thing I can count on is that the underlying reason for the suspense plot won't be too far out in Never Never land. Perhaps there might be a slight lift of my eyebrow or the beginnings of a question on my face but overall, the basis for the whole sound and light show generally makes sense and might happen in real life. And that is an accomplishment.

Welcome to the September Promotional Thread for Authors. What’s this you say? I read quite a few blogs outside the romance blogosphere and many of the big ones have a daily open thread where the commenters drive the bus.
The rules for Author Promo Night Open Thread are as follows:
The book has to be released in that month (i.e., anything released during the last week of August would be a September release)
You can post for yourself or you can have a friend post for you if the idea of posting ...

Amazon's Read Anywhere Is a Sad and Unfufilled Promise
/disapprove by flickr photographer striatic
Amazon is supposedly the leader in ereading technology but from the Kindle devices to the web app to the desktop software, the reading experience is inconsistent and even crude. If not for the one click buy which Amazon had patented in September 1999, Amazon's apathetic attitude toward the software and user reading experience may have prevented it from coming to dominance.
Amazon wins right now because the buying and reading experience is virtually...

Review: More than a Man by Emily Ryan-Davis and Elise Logan
Dear Ms. Ryan-Davis and Ms. Logan,
I've never read anything by either of you before. I have seen the cover to your book on Amazon, but barely spared it a glance. It seemed like generic SF romance and the title seemed nice if unexciting. What caused me to purchase this book, you ask? Someone on Amazon's message boards mentioned that the hero had tentacles. Yup. I have never read tentacle sex, and this book had positive reviews, so I downloaded a sample and found it quite engaging, and thus...
Monday Midday Links: Sandra Hyatt Has Passed Away
Sandra Hyatt passed away last weekend during the New Zealand Romance Writer's conference. From all accounts, Hyatt took ill unexpectedly and passed away within days. Hyatt wrote for Harlequin Desire. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Hyatt family.
