Agony/Ecstasy Anthology: Margaret Rowe and "Wicked Wedding Night"
Margaret Rowe brings us the short featuring Viscount Lucien Ransford who is going to make his new wife pay for trapping him into marriage. Good thing for their marriage that Maida enjoys the punishment. Like the previous story, I felt like this one provided a good mix of the agony with the ecstasy while still maintaining a good romance vibe.
His new wife gazed up at him with barely-contained terror. That would make the next hour so much easier, he supposed. A modicum of suffering on her...
REVIEW: Wight Mischief by J.L. Merrow
Dear Ms. Merrow.
It's no secret that I love your very British voice, your brilliant characters, all completely different from each other, and your wonderful stories. So I was excited to see you had another story out. And part of me thinks this one is different from your others, but then, I don't think you really have a "style" or a theme you keep coming back to, or a particular way of writing.
This book is a Gothic romance. It's a contemporary-set m/m Gothic with some fascinating twists, but...
Dear Bitches, Smart Authors Podcast: November 11, 2011
Sadly, I think I forgot to post this.
It's podcast time again! This week we have an epic interview with author Sarah Mayberry. That's right, all the way to Australia for our first author interview. This podcast is long – just over an hour – but It was SO fun. We talk about writing for soap operas, her own books, language differences, and the elusive qualities of Vegemite.
Some of the sound quality may suffer a bit from time to time. Blame the long distance miracle that is Skype.
The music t...
Who Can Protect The Best Interest of The Reader?
Anyone who's spend any length of time on Twitter likely knows about #fridayreads, the hashtag started by Bethanne Patrick, aka The Book Maven, who created, among other things, NPR's The Book Studio. In fact, I know some people who have actually unfollowed Patrick because of the FridayReads cheerleading, which, admittedly, can get a little intense at times. Still, I've always liked FridayReads, not only because it reminds me to share my own book recs on Twitter, but also because it's an...

REVIEW: The Danger of Desire by Elizabeth Essex
Dear Ms. Essex:
The Danger of Desire opens in the POV of a young woman named Meggs. Meggs, a London street thief, and her younger brother Timmy, are preparing to steal near the Admiralty building. Meanwhile, Captain Hugh McAlden is in the same building, meeting with Admiral Middleton, who tells him the Admiralty Board has been infiltrated by a traitor who is passing secrets to the French.
Hugh is tasked with catching the traitor, and promised a knighthood if he succeeds (he is the son of a...
Agony/Ecstasy Anthology: Jessica Clare and "Bachelorette Party"
What's a good girl to do when she has a bucket list of sexy activities she would like to explore and her beloved fiance isn't terribly adventurous? Jessica Clare explores this dilemma in her short Bachelorette Party. If the voice sounds familiar it is because Jessica Clare is also Jill Myles (author of paranormals for Simon & Schuster) and Jessica Sims. Jessica Clare is her pseudonym for the sexy contemporaries she has coming out in 2012 from Berkley Heat.
She felt a hand brush across her...

REVIEW: Immortal Rider by Larissa Ione
Dear Ms. Ione:
I haven't been a faithful follower of the Demonica series, but I've read several. Having some knowledge of the world helped ground Immortal Rider but I did wonder whether readers who entered at this book or its predecessor would be a little lost. Immortal Rider is the second in the "Lords of Deliverance" series. The premise is that there are four horsemen, three brothers and their sister, and so long as their Seals remained unbroken, the end of the world can be prevented...
