Friday Midday Links: Amazon Sells 3 Million Kindles in 3 Weeks

In a move of smart and generous customer service, Harlequin is replacing everyone's LIT and Mobi purchases with ePub copies. If you recall, earlier this year Harlequin announced that it was eliminating support for LIT/Mobi purchases. I had hoped that like Fictionwise, Harlequin would offer this switch out for customers and Harlequin did.

As of December 31, 2011, your purchases in the .LIT and .PRC formats will be switched over to Adobe EPUB format, wherever possible. The industry standard...

Friday Film Review: Holiday

Holiday (1938)

Genre: Comedy/Drama

Grade: B

[image error]This movie is really a bit of a fudge as a Christmas/New Year's themed one since the main emphasis of the film isn't the holiday season. Instead, the film is set from right around Christmas until shortly after the new year begins. But, what the heck. Read through to the end for a short bonus review.

Johnny Case (Cary Grant) is a free thinking young man who meets, charms and becomes engaged to a young woman, Julia Seton (Doris Nolan), while they're...

REVIEW: Devilishly Hot by Kathy Love

Annie Lou Riddle had a plan: Move to New York City. Break into the fashion industry. Work her way to the top. Nowhere in that scenario did she expect to accidentally sell her soul in exchange for a job at Hot! Magazine. Oops. Demons, it seems, aren't big on letting mortals off the hook. Now Annie is stuck working as assistant/personal slave to Finola White – diva extraordinaire, and glamorous she-devil. Whatever Finola wants, she gets, and she wants Annie to match her up with Nick Rossi, the...

Thursday Midday News and Deals: Prices Up Says DWJ; Prices Down Says Data

Draw a Stickman (or a dragon as the tot did). http://www.drawastickman.com/ Don't forget to come back.

*****

Curiously the Wall Street Journal warns readers of ebooks that ebook prices are going up and in some cases are actually higher than the print versions.

As the ebook data from e-Book Market View shows:

Isolated cases and macro-trends aside, for most of the books that people buy, the price has actually dropped significantly since last Christmas.

The average price of an Amazon Kindle...

A Selection of December Harlequin Presents

I haven't had much luck with Harlequin Presents subscriptions of late. In December, I enjoyed three of my eight books. The problem is that I'm never sure what books I'm going to enjoy and thus the subscription seems worth it. I guess I'll reevaluate mid year 2012.

[image error]The Trophy Wife by Janette Kenny is the next to last addition in the Notorious Wolfe series (or Bad Blood series as it was originally labeled by Mills & Boon). It featured a model with an eating disorder and computer billionaire...

REVIEW: False Colours by Georgette Heyer

sail under false colours (British & Australian) also sail under false colors (American & Australian)

to pretend to be something that you are not in order to deceive people

When we did a series of reviews on some of Georgette Heyer's novels, many people listed "False Colours" as a favorite. Since I'd never read it, I decided to give it a whirl and see what I thought. Thought it has its charm, is amusing and is filled with well drawn characters, there are a few things about it that will keep it ...

Wednesday Midday Links: Major Publishers Support Internet Killing Bill & Retro Romance Debut from Samhain

In case you missed it yesterday, BN just launched gifting of ebooks.  YAY!

Look for deals at the end of the post.

Seth Godin has a list of publishers that are supporting SOPA, a bill that many internet supporters believe will allow large corporations to cut off content access for individuals.  SOPA is up for a vote tomorrow.  SOPA will allow copyright holders to have an entire URL blocked  if one part of the URL is hosting illegal material.  For example, if there is a book trailer posted...

REVIEW: The September Queen by Gillian Bagwell

Dear Ms. Bagwell,

Earlier this year, I read and enjoyed your book about Nell Gwynn, mistress to Charles II, The Darling Strumpet. When the opportunity came to read a book about another woman in Charles' life, I figured, why not?

The September Queen	Gillian BagwellJane Lane, like Nell Gwynn, was a real person. The romance between her and Charles as depicted in the book is speculative, however. There doesn't appear to be any historical evidence of it, other than Charles' prediliction for seducing every woman he laid eyes on. What ...

Dear Author Intro Interview: Julie Rowe, Author of IceBound

The courageous true story of Jerri Nielsen Fitzgerald, the doctor who had to operate on and treat herself for breast cancer while serving at a research facility at the South Pole, stuck with me for years after I first heard it.  It's why Julie Rowe's debut IceBound, set in that same extreme environment, caught my attention.  Emilie Saunderson is a doctor, too, a new arrival to the South Pole station, which is under the perfectly capable supervision of Tom Wolinski.  Carrying her own griefs...
