Goodreads Author

Born
The United States

March 2011

A lifelong resident of the desert southwest, P. Kirby grew up in El Paso, Texas and is a graduate of New Mexico State University. She prefers to recast familiar, villainous archetypes – dark elves, vampires – in a more heroic light and avoids traditional “big-bad out to destroy the world” story lines. Home is a tiny house in the desert, shared with her long-suffering husband. She is co-owned by an Arabian horse and a neurotic greyhound. She has never owned, or been owned, by a cat.

P. Kirby is finished with Before They Are Hanged: Made the mistake of not re-reading the first book, so spent the first few hundred pages going, "Huh? Why are they doing this?"

It's a credit to Abercrombie that despite me having few memories of the first book, this one is immensely readable. Kind of meandering at times, but really engaging.

Ninefingers's and Ferro's love story, ha, is particularly fun.

Posting this months after reading so that if I should wonder if I read this?...yes, I did, here's the proof.

From what I recall, this was enjoyable. Enough to give it a solid four stars. A girls' school on an isolated island suddenly is in the epicent

A charming story about three sisters in Dust Bowl Kansas. I wouldn't call the story wildly memorable, but rather a nice little way to spend a few hours. The central romance between Stella and Lloyd, the young drifter with a heart of gold, i

Posting this though I'm only on page 170.

One-hundred-seventy pages and still not a whiff of space exploration.

The majority of these initial pages have been given over to Tristin, the protagonist and Izzy (Isolde, get it?) and their doomed romance. Do

Technically, I'm still mucking about with some of the exercises in this book. In particular, the last few pages covering harmonics and artificial harmonics. Also, perfecting some of the exercises, especially a few famous ones by Sor.

“My father took one hundred and thirty-two minutes to die.

I counted.

It happened on the Jellicoe Road. The prettiest road I’d ever seen, where trees made breezy canopies like a tunnel to Shangri-La. We were going to the ocean, hundreds of miles away, because I wanted to see the ocean and my father said that it was about time the four of us made that journey. I remember asking, 'What’s the difference between a trip and a journey?' and my father said, 'Narnie, my love, when we get there, you’ll understand,' and that was the last thing he ever said.”
Melina Marchetta, On the Jellicoe Road

“Burn? Smite? Punish? Why is your god so intolerant? So jealous? Why must there be only one god? Why is there not room for many?”
Brom, Krampus: The Yule Lord

“A child isn't a symbol, it's a child! It needs applesauce and, and, and playpens and an ass-load of other things we can't provide while we're on the goddamn lam!
Just to be clear. Your exact words to me were: "Please shoot it in my twat."
Yeah. I know.”
Brian K. Vaughan, Saga, Volume 2

“The need for change bulldozed a road down the center of my mind. ”
