Shirley Jackson Awards Nominee
Well, I am absolutely Gobsmacked and thrilled to learn that I am a Shirley Jackson Award Finalist in the Edited Anthology category for Shadows & Tall Trees. I am deeply honoured. Shirley Jackson is a literary idol. In 2009 I was also a Finalist in the same category. I didn’t win, but I resolved to to try to continue to edit and publish anthologies of literary merit that, I hoped, lived up to the Jackson name. So this recognition is truly humbling. And Victoria Leslie‘s terrific story from Shadows & Tall Trees, ‘The Quiet Room,’ is also a final nominee in the Novelette category. Congratulations, Victoria! And thanks to all the contributors for making S&TT a great book.
And congratulations to all the other nominees, as well. Every category is filled with fabulous work.
Finally, thanks to the jurors and administrators of the Shirley Jackson Awardsfor your tireless efforts. It’s very much appreciated.
Roll on, Boston!

V. H. Leslie’s debut collection, ‘Skein and Bone’
Truthfully, it isn’t very often I get lost in a book these days. But I’ve just finished rereading Victoria Leslie‘s ‘Skein and Bone,’ and was once again thrilled to find myself immersed in her words and this book. Yes, yes, I am biased. I’m publishing the book, after all. But first collections are rarely this strong, truly. And for those of you who claim an interest in nightmarish fairy tales, and feminist fiction, I expect you will love this book. It’ll be available in August.
“An absorbing and gorgeously unsettling collection.”
