Week In The Life™ 2017 | Tuesday Words + Photos
Here's a look at my Tuesday via the story lens of some days // most days:
6:30am // One of the things I like about this project is the challenge to look for and practice capturing different pieces of life with my camera. They don't always work out - for any number of reasons - but I like the opportunity to experiment. It helps me learn about lighting situations, about angles, about working with whatever camera I'm using - I never know when I'll discover a new favorite view through the lens of any of my cameras. // Anna came into my room this morning which isn't really a regular thing these days. She told me about a book she wants to get (a word search) from Barnes & Noble and is hoping I will take her there after soccer tonight. Sam, as usual, is waiting for me (sometimes patiently and most of the time not) to go downstairs and feed him.
Most days I'm super excited for this first morning cup of coffee.
Some days things just click. She was in a really good mood this morning and did all her jobs without me having to remind her which was a really wonderful breath of fresh air. Getting up in the morning can be rough.
7:25am // Serious April showers this morning. This time of the rain is almost "most days."
8:08am // Most says we sit in the car together for 10 minutes or so before he heads into school. He will get out of the car at precisely 8:15am on the nose pretty much without fail. Some days he has a lot to say and show - today is more from the movie Aladdin - and other days we just do our own thing. I actually love driving both of them to school.
8:42am // Some days, after dropping off kids and before hearing back home to work, I make a grocery store stop. Today's Tuesday which means it's Taco Tuesday which means I needed a couple things for dinner tonight when all the kids will be here. //

Week In The Life™ 2017 | Monday Words + Photos
Thank you so much for joining me for this Week In The Life™ adventure. Whether this is your first time or your 12th, I hope you enjoy the process and learn a little something about your life along the way.
MONDAY REFLECTIONSA few thoughts as I went about my day and as I reflected while editing my photos:
Monday of this project is always a mix of emotions for me. Excitement (because I really do love this project), a little bit of dread due to the duration + commitment (meant in the best possible way), and patience with myself as I ease into the next seven days. Generally I take most of my photos with my DSLR during this project. Today I reached for my phone instinctively and had to remind myself to pick up my big camera. At the end of the day when I uploaded my photos I was struck by how much I love the combination of the grainy phone photos mixed with the super crisp DSLR images. The grain in my phone photos comes most from challenging lighting situations - mainly low light. It obviously doesn't have to be either/or but it was a nice reminder to myself that photos from both can tell a unique story. In reviewing my DSLR images I definitely felt a little out of practice because I haven't been shooting much with that camera besides work projects - people throughout the day are a whole different ball game. I'm setting an intention to slow down throughout the rest of the week in an effort to get my focusing right. I didn't have a set story intention for today, I really just wanted to live the day and capture things as I went along. I started off some of my journaling in the morning using the phrase "I see" and ended up being able to use that for my photos throughout the day after editing them and brining them into this post. I like the bit of detachment that the words "I see" can bring to some of the stories - especially when I'm the main character in the photo - so I'm changing some of it up and referring to myself as "she." I also like how it goes along nicely with the "Lens" Story Theme this month. I can use both my photos and my words to tell what I both through the lens of my camera and what I see when I look at the resulting images. I decided to go black and white for a lot of my images today - especially the ones that came from my phone. I did this for a couple reasons: (1) I like the photojournalistic quality of black and white images - especially ones that include a lot of visual content from the literal stuff of our life right now and (2) sometimes the colors are just so off because of the lighting challenges that they look significantly better when they are changed to black and white. I use RadLab (an add-on to Photoshop) to change my photos to black and white and make other color adjustments. If you are interested in learning more about my complete photo process - from looking through the lens + composing the shots (vision + voice) to uploading to editing to organization to printing - make sure to check out my Lens Of Joy workshop that is now available as a self-paced class. I still love this project. I love the photos that come from the commitment to seeing my days through the lens of my camera. I didn't take a hundred or more photos (I actually didn't count this time but it didn't feel like too many) but I took enough to paint a picture of my life on this Monday in April of 2017.
Here's a look at my Monday:
6:20am // The alarm has gone off a few times (photo at the top of this post). Climbing/rolling out of my side of the bed (the right side), I see my bedside table holding stuff of my life: water and books and headphones and electronics and light and glasses and hair ties and cords.
After showering I walk downstairs and I see the gathering of backpacks + shoes + coats (and a random cooler that needs to be put away in the garage) + the three pets who are ready for their breakfast.
6:53am // I see two of the five are at the table and I can hear the other three in various parts of the house going about their morning routines. I feed the two cats and one dog. Coffee next.
7am // I see two more joining the first two at the breakfast table. One, who always has his feet up on the chair, is finishing up some weekend homework. One is trying to figure out why in the world I'm taking photos at this time of the morning on a school day. One is holding out as long as possible before moving to the next things on her list.
7:05am // I see the oldest finding his way to the table after heating up his daily breakfast sandwich. He gets dressed before he comes to the table while the others usually eat first and then get dressed. The others have moved on to their jobs that need to be done before heading to school.
7:24am // I see kids packing their lunches/snacks. Goldfish continues to be in demand.
7:43am // I see a Mom driving two kids to their schools (Aaron drives the other three to their school). I see a boy watching the movie Aladdin on his phone (a current and former favorite) and and a girl in the backseat playing a game on her iPad on the way. Self-timer DSLR photo with camera on the dash.
7:50am // I see a girl who had a pretty darn good morning getting a kiss on her check before she gets out of the car and walks into school by herself. I see a Mom that will drop off her son next and then by 8:15am it will be quiet again. She'll turn on NPR and head back towards home and the start of her working day.
8:46am // I see a working woman motivated by cup of coffee number two. And she's super excited because the carpet guy is here to do Simon's room = progress.
9am // I see someone who is so thankful for this space. For the light and the opportunity and the flexibility and the creativity. Self-timer DSLR photo.
9:38am // I see two friends and working companions doing computer work. Monday mornings are for outlining the week ahead and catching up on weekend adventures and establishing a focus (this week my focus is on classes for our Story Camp event in June + designing the shop digital kit for May).
11:15am // I see a super soft and fluffy cat who has come out of hiding for some hang out time now that the carpet guy is gone. Photo by Katie.
12:01pm // I see leftover Costco pizza from a kid-filled weekend. I also see the local daily paper that has long been a lunch-time reading adventure.
12:05pm // I see flowers from the yard that have been brought inside. I see an Easter basket still on the table, leftover from the festivities the day before by a child who was disappointed that there wasn't a large stash of cash in his eggs vs. the traditional chocolate. I see a cozy sweater. Self-timer DSLR photo.
Lunch was followed by a super quick nap (work-at-home occasional perk) followed by walking down the hallway back to my office.
2:10pm // I see joy that only newly installed carpet and fresh white paint can elicit. We've been updating each room upstairs with white paint, new base trim, and new carpet now that the main construction is complete (we re-configured some space outside my office to make a bedroom for the girls). Simon's room got the new carpet today (all of his stuff is currently in the girl's old bedroom and now we will move him back into this room and re-carpet that other room next as a new room for Elliot). Photo by Katie.
2:42pm // I see an awesome man in the backyard starting to take care of the tree that fell down a couple weeks ago. He wasn't bummed out about the opportunity to get a chain-saw.
2:43pm // I see a flowering cherry in my yard accompanied by an even larger flowering tree in my neighbors yard. This time of year goes so fast and this view is one of my most favorites all year.
3:08pm // I see a Mom waiting to pick up her oldest child and who will then drive to pick up the other one from her after-school care program. The other three are staying with their Mom tonight. Self-timer phone photo.
3:45pm // I see a girl who is full of stories and excitement from her day at school. She loves to read to me from her folder about things that are on the schedule at school. I love that she wants to share.
4:51pm // I see a boy with a pretty awesome after school work ethic. He comes home and generally does his homework right away. Today he is working on geography + algebra. It has been so, so cool to watch him grow into himself even just over the past few months as he's become more comfortable with the routines of more traditional classes. He worked really hard last term to do well in his classes and seeing him be proud of himself is what we really love to celebrate. I love that he actually really likes to learn.
4:53pm // I see a girl that came home from school and got right into her bed for some screen time. She does her homework at her after-care program and on days when the house is less full and she doesn't have other activities she can often be found just hanging out in her bedroom on the top bunk.
5pm // I see a guy that makes me laugh a million times a day. He is such a gift.
6pm // I see a family gathered around the kitchen island talking about dinner and evening plans while the other adult makes a quick trip to the store for a couple items for dinner. Tonight we made "Yumm" bowls which is modeled after a local restaurant that we love called Cafe Yumm. Simon made himself a quesadilla because he's not much of a fan of the beans + rice bowls. Self-timer on DSLR camera.
6:45pm // I see a Dad picking up his son to take him to Boy Scouts.
7:30pm // I see a woman reading her book in the bathtub and enjoying the hot water. Of course tonight was the night this book started to get really good and I've got a bunch of work to do before I can get back to it again. Photo by Anna.
8pm // I see a woman tucking her child into the top bunk of her bed and giving her a kiss goodnight.
Again, thank you for joining me on this storytelling adventure and for being part of this community.

Story Kit™ & Story Stamp™ | Lens
A new Story Theme is now available. This month we are focusing on stories related to the word Lens.
A lens is so much more than just a part of our cameras. We view the world around us through a variety of different lenses over the course of our lives - impacted by time, place and circumstance. They are a part of who we were yesterday and a part of who we will become tomorrow. This month we are telling stories of the ways we see life through our own individual lenses.
Initial story ideas for Lens include:
What lens are you currently using to view the stories of your life? Positive, negative, neutral?
Tell me a story of what you are literally seeing through the lens of your camera right now? Who, where, when, seasonal, etc.
A lens helps us focus on what’s most important. What’s most important for you in your life currently and what are you doing to make sure you are focusing on those things?
If you are already a subscriber to you can now access the content in the classroom (make sure you are logged in to your account).

Type Workshop | Layout Overview
Hey friends! Just a reminder that my Type workshop begins on Tuesday, April 18th and that we've got a special early-bird registration happening if you sign up by the 18th ($20 off).
Full details about the workshop can be found here but a quick overview is that it includes 12 weeks of content, process videos for each project, handouts, presentation videos to clearly explain and illustrate the concepts, 9 digital packages, bonus lessons from Pam Baldwin, gallery, and message board for questions, conversation, and community.
This is a "live" class meaning that once we close registration (probably in a week or so after the class opens) it will not be available on my site until we bring it back again at some point in the future. Please note that this is the same class that originally ran in 2015 and that this is the second time we are making it available and no new content has been added.
To give you a little more information about the layouts I created for this workshop I put together this overview video below. I hope that this will give you a good idea of the kinds of projects I'll be showing you how to create using the ideas, techniques and lessons from each week's content. Just a note that I do include a couple of Project Life® spreads within the lessons as well, I just didn't pull them out for this video. Each project shown in the video below has it's own process/step by step video within the classroom.
This class is great for anyone who is wanting to increase their knowledge about working with type and letterforms in their memory keeping process.
If you have any questions about this workshop please let me know in the comments below and I hope to see you in class!

Project Life® 2017 | Week Thirteen
Thanks for following along this week as I shared my last five weekly spreads in Project Life®.
I recently shared details and photos from our Spring Break adventures and today I'm showing you how I took those stories and photos and added them to my Project LIfe® album.
Here's a look at Week 13:
To tell the story of this week I created custom journaling cards using a "spring break" word art digital stamp from the
March Digital Kit (still available). After printing out those cards onto Neenah Bright White Paper I used the new Days Of The Week Large Initial Stamp Set to add the day of the week to each card. Ink colors used include Columbia, Olympia, Tillamook, and Deschutes.
If you are interested in learning more about using digital products in/on your paper projects make sure to check out my Hybrid workshop which covers all the basics.
On each card I added space to identify the "kid in charge" and "activities." This made it super easy and direct when I went to add my words.
Here's a closer look at each side of the spread:
Title pattern card is from the
Bond Story Kit™. Yellow pattern paper added to the Gratitude card is from the March Digital Kit.
As you might have seen in my original post about our adventures I decided to keep all my photos black and white. I loved all the big group shots I was able to get during the week - getting most of the kids in the frame. I also decided to not add any embellishments to my photos this time - nice and simple.
For my Gratitude card for this week I used the
We R Memory Keepers Typewriter. There are definitely mixed reviews out there about this typewriter but I'm really enjoying using it. I would say with any typewriter that you can't expect perfection (part of the charm) - the main thing to ask yourself is whether you can pick up a vintage one and get the same results. Katie has had great luck finding vintage typewriters at our local Goodwill and then finds ribbons to match online.
For Spring Break we had all the kids here from Monday through Friday and then they headed off to their other houses for the weekend. To "show" that in my album I printed color photos for Saturday and Sunday and also changed up the style of journal cards for the weekend.
I printed these digital cards from the
March Digital Kit on Neenah Bright White paper using my Canon MG7720 printer. This is a great, relatively inexpensive printer for printing digital products.
Hope you are having a great week!

Project Life® 2017 | Week Twelve
Another wonderfully regular week around here.
In terms of embellishments on this Project Life® spread I decided to shop my current stash and specifically look back through my past Story Kit™ chipboard sets and pick out some of the 1/2 circles to add to my photos. My goal with the products I sell here is that they can be used for all kinds of different stories from our everyday lives - I was able to match a bunch of past themes with my current photos for the week. I want you to use the stuff you buy from me - that's the goal!
Also remember that repetition also doesn't have to look exactly the same (such as using the same journal card design over the course of a week). In the case of this spread I repeated a general shape of an embellishment (1/2 circle) but they varied in colors, theme, design on top, etc. I also grabbed one of the day of the week circles from a past Week In The Life™ kit and cut it in half to mimic the shape of the other embellishments I used throughout the spread.
I also decided to use one of those cool POSCA white pens on a couple photos again this week. Check out my past white pen review post for more details.
Here's a look at Week Twelve:
In looking at what I ended up using this week I can see that I also gravitated to black and white journal cards. Simple + clean.
The "cats" journal card is part of a new cat/dog/pet word art set I will be releasing next month.
The "Here we go" card was from a past Story Kit™.
The 3pm card is from the Day In The Life™ No. 2 (includes 24 cards - one for each hour of the day).

Project Life® 2017 | Week Eleven
As I've been catching up on Project Life® over the last few weeks I've been thinking a lot about this project in general and my own personal ebb and flow with it.
I love that some weeks can be more word heavy, some weeks can be more photo heavy, some weeks can include more embellishments, some weeks can be super simple, some weeks can follow a specific story theme, and some weeks can just be a random collection of little stories from my week. The fact that it doesn't have to be the same every week is one of the things I love best about this project. It can evolve as your life evolves and it can ebb and flow to fit your lifestyle and your current stories.
Do you need to give yourself permission related to some aspect of this project? Do you need to let go of wanting it to be "perfect" (whatever that looks like to you)? Do you need to focus on a monthly spread vs. a weekly spread? Do you need to stop worrying about whether you added enough product? Do you need to stop thinking that you voice isn't valuable enough?
You can do this. Seriously. Make it work for you right now.
Here's a look at Week Eleven:
That lovely bright yellow quote card is part of my March Digital package that you can check out here (this isn't a subscription and the monthly digital packages are continuously available in my shop). These monthly digital kits are designed to be theme-based related to the time of year they are released. You can check out the new April digital kit here (Easter & April focused).
Right now I'm totally into simple. For me that seems to mean reaching into my current stash of physical journal cards, quickly printing out digital cards, or making story-specific cards using alpha stamps. I love doing that for a very story-central "filler" card.
I created the "Monday" card using stamps from my Days Of The Week stamp set + my Tillamook Ink.
The "these are the days" card is from my Celebrate Journal Card Set (also available digitally here).
The "so over being sick" card was created using my Sans Serif Alpha Stamp + my Olympia Ink. Love that alpha stamp set - totally a go-to for me.
The "sun please" card is part of the April Digital Kit.
"The story of today" is part of the This And That Journal Card set (this set is also available digitally here).
I also added a few products from the current Eat Story Kit™ to this spread. Included with the kit are the "story of this meal" card (it comes to you as a pad of paper to use for a variety of stories) + the fork/knife/spoon card + the circles on the bottom photo (chipboard eat circle + plastic circle). The physical Eat kit sold out this month but the Eat Digital Story Kit™ and the Eat Story Stamp™ are still available until April 14th. Our next story theme will be Lens (released on April 15th).

Project Life® 2017 | Week Ten
For Week Ten in my Project Life® album I decided to go with photos-only + one gratitude card.
I love the idea of mixing in some photo-only weeks throughout my Project Life® albums. Sometimes it's just nice to not have to add more words. Obviously you guys know I am a fan of getting more stories told overall but in a project like this it's nice to have a catch-up week that just includes photos. Put this idea in your tool box for a time when you just want to get it done and move on to the next week. Remember that it doesn't make it any less of a week in the grand scheme of documenting - it's the album as a whole that tells the best story.
Here's a look at Week Ten:
This week I included a drawing booklet that Audrey created for Anna and her friend Scout during a playdate.
Along the outside edge of the 8.5x11 page protector I added an Avery Index Tab and used the Day Of The Week Roller Stamp to add the word "remember."
The "week 10" title card is from the Project 52 Fresh Core Kit and I've been adding these in every couple of weeks throughout this year so far.
On each of the photos I added a word/phrase sticker from the Week In The Life™ Phrase Sticker Bundle. These are back in stock!
When looking at my photo archives to decide what photos to add for this week I went for a variety of close up and far away. I wanted a little bit of everything from life this week - food, flowers, work, faces, something with writing on it, home stuff and activities.
Anna had a group birthday party again this year with some of her school friends (her birthday was back in February but this is when it worked for everyone). Love spreading out the celebration. They had a craft party where they made floral initials using silk flowers and large initials.
Remember that this project is what you make it. You got this. So totally worth it.
