Project Life® 2017 | Week Seventeen
Happy Friday! Today I'm sharing a look at my Project Life® 2017 Week Seventeen spread.
I can tell you that one of the things I'm loving right now is pulling products from my past Story Kit™ stash to support my Project Life® stories. Chipboard pieces, word/phrase stickers, cork, etc. I had one of those moments today when I was putting this page together where I was just felt super thankful for the opportunity to make products that I love to use. What a crazy ride this has been.
Speaking of Story Kits™, we will be making past kits and stamps available for purchase during the last week of May (more details to come). This is one of just two times a year when we offer access to any leftover stock we might have from the Story Kits™ and Story Stamps™ (some themes have completely sold out). We also make all past Digital Story Kits™ available at that time as well.
The other thing I'm really happy about right now is that I feel like I'm finding a groove with this project. Over the years I've ebbed and flowed - I often start out super strong at the beginning of the year and get distracted by other projects as the year goes on. This year, for whatever reason, I'm just getting it done. I'm keeping it simple and fun and just feeling glad to have a home for these kinds of stories.
Here is a look at my spread for the week:
One of the things I often think about as I'm bringing my weeks together is spreading embellishments out across the spread. These are often done in groups of three - three yellow stars, three chipboard shapes, etc. It's a simple way to create another level of cohesion in the design.
Filling in the pockets and getting it done. These little stories add up to the bigger story of our year.
The "love this" chipboard is from the Brave Story Kit™. That fun "bright" 3x4 card is from a past Studio Calico Documenter Kit (Young At Heart).
In my 2017 album I've been mixing in these weekly cards from the Project 52 Fresh Core Kit. I stapled a star from the Brave Story Kit™ chipboard and stamped the dates for just a little embellishment.
I love these story cards (shown here on top of the photo of Aaron) that we've included in a few past Story Kits™. I often use them as jumping off points for traditional layouts but I also think they are perfect for adding photos to Project Life® with a stamped title (from the just recently restocked One Little Word® Phrase/Icon stamp set + my Tillamook ink) and a small shape embellishment.
I used another Story Card from a past Story Kit™ on top of one of the photos of me reading in the card (there are usually two sizes of those included). I added the date and a small word phase sticker. I've continued to include a "gratitude" card each week (trying to get more of those stocked in case you might want to use those in your own project).
One of the things I thought about this week was repetition in terms of the subjects of my photos. It was fun to find a couple stories of me reading to add in and made me reflect on how I fit reading into my life - it's usually either in the car while I'm waiting for kids or at night before bed. Can you think of a story within your own life that repeats in different locations over the course of a day or week? You can read more about what I'm reading here.
I'm generally on the lookout for the stuff of daily life that can be added to my overall story. In this case I happened to look at each of the kids bags from Starbucks. They each had their name on their order because they used gift cards to order their own choices after our Sunday bike ride. Petite Scones for Anna and a breakfast sandwich for Simon. I just cut the bags to 3x4 and slipped them into pockets. The "hello Sunday" chipboard circle is from this Week In The Life™ kit (loved that kit).
Have a great week!

Day In The Life™ | June 2017
Hey Friends!
I've got the first Day In The Life™ for 2017 planned for next month on Tuesday, June 20th and a fun new mini kit now available for purchase.
I'm planning to do three Day In The Life™ documentation days this year - this is the first and the other two will follow before the end of the year (each with their own mini kit).
For this first project I'm planning to repeat one of my approaches from last year which was to focus on documenting what is happening once per hour over the course of the day. This process was made even easier by simply setting alarms on my phone to go off each hour as a reminder to stop and document. In addition to the structure of the hours, I'm going to use the rolling stamp included with the kit that features "ing" words as the jumping off point for my storytelling throughout the day. The words on the rolling stamp include: Around Here, Currently, Eating, Watching, Listening, Reading, Buying, Wearing, Trying, Wanting, Feeling, and Loving.
To hold these stories in my Project Life® album I'm planning to either use Design F page protectors (like I used last year here) or use these 6x8 page protectors and add them into my 12x12 Project Life® album (similar to what I did in October last year).
I'm planning different story approaches for the other two documenting days later this year and the mini kits will reflect those intentions.
Here's a video overview that shows you a closer look at the products in the Day In The Life™ Mini Kit No. 4:
A digital version of the cards from this kit will be available at the beginning of June.
You can see my past blog posts showcasing my Day In The Life™ projects here.
There are also past Day In The Life™ kits still available if you are interested in a different style or digital versions of past kits. Check those out here.
Consider yourself invited to play along with our awesome community of storytellers to help get your stories told. You are also invited to join the conversation over in the Craft The Story™ Facebook Group for all kinds of support and inspiration for using my products and participating in my projects.
Also, heads up that we will be having a Past Story Kit™ sale coming at the end of this month.

Story Kit™ & Story Stamp™ | Brave
Hey friends!
In the Story Classroom this month we are focusing on stories related to the word Brave. We have changed up our kit pages this month and each subscription now has it's own page that you can check out here: Story Kit™, Story Stamp™, and Digital Story Kit™ (there are links to each one at the bottom of each page).
Here are a few thoughts about this particular theme:
Bravery comes in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes it’s big and bold and other times it’s soft and quiet and behind the scenes. This month we are telling stories of the times we have been brave and courageous regardless of the outcome and the impact that has made on our lives.
Initial story ideas for the Brave theme include:
In what circumstances in your life have you been most brave and least brave? When was the last time you broke outside your comfort zone - even in a small everyday act of bravery?Who in your life is the most courageous and brave person you know? What are the qualities you admire most?NEW ADD-ON OPTION FOR SUBSCRIBERS
This month we are also introducing something new: the option for subscribers to purchase a limited number of Add-On products and have them shipped with your monthly subscription for no additional shipping cost. Between the 13th at 12:00am Eastern and the 14th at 12:59pm Eastern, subscribers will be able to add these products to their boxes at no additional shipping cost. You can read more details below or check out our 2017 Subscription Update page here. This is why we are now releasing the kit a couple days early (moved from the 15th to the 13th). Depending on product availability subscribers may be able to purchase the Add-On's after the Add-On period has ended and regular shop shipping rates will apply because they will ship separately from the kit.
If you are a current Subscriber you can select + purchase Add-On's via your new My Subscriptions (it will list the actual subscription there( drop-down menu under your user name in the top right corner of my website. If you subscribe to more than one you will have a Box for each subscription and the ability to purchase Add-On's for each one.
If you are new to the Story Subscription program, check out all the details here.
If you are already a subscriber the content in the classroom will be available to you on the 15th just as in the past.
Here's a look at
the Story Kit™ contents for Brave (Please Note: the Brave Story Kit™ is currently sold out - please join the waiting list - it's possible that more kits will become available or you will be in line to receive next month's theme which is Fun):
Here are the optional Add-Ons for subscribers of the Brave Story Kit™ theme. Two of these products are exclusive to subscribers at this time (but may be added to the shop in the future) and the other is from the shop. Some months we will have only new theme-based products as part of the Add-On selection and other months we might include a staple item from the shop.
Here's a video overview of the Story Kit™ and Add-On options this month:
The Brave Story Stamp™:
The Story Stamp™ will also have Add-On options available to subscribers. In the coming months we will introduce Add-On products that differ from what we are offering to Story Kit™ subscribers but for the first couple of months they will be similar, with the addition of a full-size Crafter's Ink option.
Here's a video overview of the Story Stamp™ and Add-On options this month:
We also have a Digital Story Kit™ subscription available that includes access to the classroom content.
Your digital kit and the classroom and any Add-Ons purchased will be available to you on the 15th once your card has been charged for the month. Here's a look at what's included for Brave (which also shows all the designs for the journal cards included in the printed version of the kit):
Digital Story Kit™ subscribers also have a couple Add-On options available (if you subscribe to both the Story Kit™ and the Story Stamp™ these should also be available to you for purchase):
And a couple peeks at the layouts I created with the kits this month in addition to the one featured at the top of this post (
full details, including process videos and how-to handout, are included with subscription):
Again, thanks so much for subscribing and/or considering my Story Subscription program! If you have any questions about this program please let me know below in the comments.

Project Life® 2017 | Week Sixteen (Week In The Life™)
One of the questions I'm often asked is what do I do about Project Life® for the week that I do Week In The Life™?
Most years I just add in extra photos that I didn't include in my album - usually one per day - and most of the time they aren't repeats of what I've included in my other project. You can see what I did in 2016 here.
This year I started by looking for photos of people (or myself) in the car. I didn't have enough for one per day but I used what I had and then looked for "funny" photos - outtakes or silly faces or ones that made me laugh.
Here's a look at what I did this time:
Because my Week In The Life™ was fairly word-focused I decided to keep this spread mainly photos. On top of each of my 4x6 photos I added a Week In The Life 4x6 Layered Template Vol. 3. That set includes both specific dates for the 2017 Week In The Life™ as well as blank options for adding your own dates. I add those to the photos before printing them out here at home on my Epson PictureMate PM400.
I really liked bringing all these photos together for this spread. I liked including some of the "funnier" ones (at least to me) - we have a lot of fun and funny things happening around here with our crazy cast of characters and I think sometimes I miss capturing some of that part of our story. Seeing photos brought together here made me happy.
The "this is it" card is from the Week In The Life™ kit and I cut out the color portion of the triangle and then added it on top of my photo. I also stapled the large chipboard "A" on top of a photo of myself.
On top of the Week 16 card (from the Project 52 Fresh Core Kit) I stapled plastic numbers from the Week In The Life™ kit. I love that the products from the kit are universal enough to use in lots of different memory keeping projects. I can always use numbers.
You guys, I love Aaron. He is the best. He brings so much fun and silliness to my life and I so needed that.
Super simple embellishing here just using additional products from the kit (cut up cards + perforated word/phrase stickers).
Remember that Project Life® is the sum of it's parts. I love having some weeks with lots of words and other weeks with a whole lot less.

Week In The Life™ 2017 | Bringing It All Together With Embellishments
Today I'm wrapping up my Week In The Life™ 2017 adventure by sharing the last phase in my process and an overview of my completed album.
In the video below you'll see the basic steps I followed to finish up the embellishing portion of this project and then a walk-through of the completed project.
It has been so awesome to see so many people sharing their projects in the Week In The Life™ Facebook Group - feel free to join the community over there for more ideas on getting this project into your album.
For the final phase of bringing all my content together I used the Time Roller Stamp + StazOn ink to add the date to each photo within my album and then I added either a word/phrase sticker or a perforated phrase sticker or an embellishment I created by cutting up my journal cards. Having my words all printed out in advance let's the photos act as supports - love just adding a few things to each one.
In my previous post about this project you saw that I filled all my pockets with photos this time around. To create additional embellishments I cut up a bunch of the journal cards that were included in the kit. I love cutting up journal cards to use them in different ways on top of my photos. You can see more about this process in the video below.
Later this week I'm hoping to share how I tackled Project Life® during this week.
GENERAL REFLECTIONS ON THIS PROJECT
ONE // These words from Mary Oliver have been swirling around in my head this past week: Instructions for living a life: Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it. To me it is at the core of what I do as a memory keeper - I strive to pay attention to my life and I strive to be astonished by it's beauty (even in the smallest moments) and I want to tell about it (for myself as much as for anyone else). This project is such an awesome outlet for paying attention, for being astonished/thankful/etc, and for giving your words and images a home (the telling about it).
TWO // I am always pleased to be done with this project/album because it's a lot of work. Ha. I love these projects that have a firm beginning and an end. I love putting them away and not looking at them for awhile and then, one day down the road, pulling it off the shelf and being so happy that I look the time to put it together. I'll be ready to do it again in another year.
THREE // I definitely want to plan this project for a time when more kids are around just for a different take - and the stories will be different next year just like they are different this year and the year before. I had actually planned that originally to be the case for this year but then had a chance of family schedule plans.
FOUR // I love remembering that we always have a choice in how we approach and tackle these projects. You may want your album to include more products and craftiness and that is totally, 100% okay. If you want it to just be words and photos that's totally okay too. There is room for the range of approaches within our community. I love that we can do it one way this time and then do it a different way next time.
Here's a look at the last part of my process and a full walk-through of my completed project:
And here's a look at my completed album via images:
More details on the cover page and reason why can be found in this post.
This year I added flip-up photos on both Monday + Tuesday in the 4x6 pocket. To create these I adhere two 4x6 photos back to back and then use washi tape across the seam on both the front and the back of the images. The top photos live outside the page protector.
Check out my video above for a visual demonstration of how to create the flip-up.
Yeah, I made a few mistakes with the AM vs. the PM on the Time Roller Stamp. It's okay.
Again, thank you so much for joining me in documenting a week in our lives. And as always, thanks for being a part of this memory keeping community and for sharing your stories. They matter. You matter. This project will happen again next year at a similar time.
PS // If you like this kind of documentation don't forget to join me for Day In The Life™ (next one will likely be sometime next month), December Daily® (kit will release in the fall with the project happening during the month of December), or check out my monthly Story Kit™ subscription that includes story-focused products + education and inspiration each month to help you get more of your stories told.

Project Life® 2017 | Week Fifteen
One of my goals for Week 15 of my 2017 Project Life® albums was to add in more "stuff of life."
At first I was intending to fill all the pockets with "stuff" I found around the house but ended up having photos I really wanted to add so I went with a mixture. I still want to do a spread sometime soon that just includes "found" items (receipts, packaging, kids writing, notes, etc) - I'll save that idea for a week when I might have less photos.
Here's a look at my Week 15:
This was the week of Easter, right before Week In The Life™. I used a 8.5x11 page protector as an insert to hold a letter Anna wrote to the Easter Bunny.
On the other side of the letter I slipped in the flyer for an art day at our local art museum. Anna had a picture selected to be in the show so we all went to the exhibit to celebrate.
Here's a look at the full spread without the insert:
That photo of Anna on the bottom. Totally a favorite.
The "see the good" title card and the white acrylic word "lens" are from the Lens Story Kit™. The physical kit is sold out but you can still grab the digital set until May 12th (we are changing the day the new kit is released - it will now release on the 13th of each month).
The "so happy I'm home" cardboard is from the exterior packaging of a recent JCrew delivery.
Sometimes I add "stuff" directly and sometimes I just take a photo of it - like the note that Anna wrote to Audrey in the last middle pocket on the right.
The stamps I used to write "PIG TALES" are from my shop and can be found here: Sans Serif Alpha Stamp.
I always look through the kids backpacks pretty regularly to see if there is something I want to add to this album. One on of Anna's recent spelling tests she wrote her name as "Anna the great" which is awesome (a nickname her soccer coach gave her a few years ago). She rocks these spelling tests.
The white pen I used to write on Anna's photo is my current favorite white pen: Posca Paint Marker. You can read my recent white pen review here.
The "love this" chipboard diamond is from the Bond Story Kit™.
I took a photo of the art that Anna had in the museum and printed it out (we get to have it here when the show is over). Lots of writing on photos again this week - such a simple and easy way to add more words to your week. The black pen I use to write on my photos is one of my AED Precision Pens.

May 2017 Digital Release
Happy May!
In January we announced that we are switching things up a bit with our digital products and will be releasing
one main themed digital kit at the beginning of each month. These are similar to the
Digital Story Kits™ in terms of the products included in the package. They will have journal cards, digital chipboard shapes, a stamp set, quote card, and sometimes other elements that will change from month to month.
We are absolutely still continuing to offer our Story Kit™ subscription that includes options for a physical kit, a physical stamp set, and a digital kit. This digital kit has nothing to do with the subscription program and is simply a change to the way we are adding projects to our digital shop.
This month's digital kit theme is Mother's Day, Stories of being a Mom/Mum and self care. This digital kit package includes 12 journal cards, a quote card (in both horizontal + vertical orientations), a "stamp" set, and a set of digital chipboard pieces/shapes.Like this style of kit? Make sure to check out our past monthly digital kits which are still available for purchase here.

Week In The Life™ 2017 | Getting The Photos Into My Album
For the next phase in my Week In The Life™ project I tackled my photos.
In year's past when I've shared my album I often shared the completed days one day at a time. This year I'm taking a bit of a different approach in an attempt to break down the steps I go through into manageable chunks that I can share with you here on my blog.
Today I want to talk about adding photos to my album and share more about that process. I'm sharing this before I add any embellishments so you can have an idea of where I'm heading and what my actual process often is for working through a project of this scale. I will be sharing another post soon that includes the addition of embellishments.
// SO LET'S TALK ABOUT THE PHOTOS //What I know to be true for myself, and what I hear from many of you, is that dealing with the photos is one of the most challenging aspects of this project. Editing, cropping, printing (at home or with a provider). It takes time, period. And it's totally worth it.
For printing my photos I sit at my computer with my album right next to me and select, edit, crop and print my photos to fit the pockets. For my 6x8 photos I'm using a Canon MG7720 printer and for my 4x6 and smaller photos I'm using an Epson PictureMate PM400 (this is the printer I use for all my Project Life® photos). I make quick decisions when choosing which photos to print, knowing that whatever I end up with will be good enough (it's very unlikely that I'll regret not including this or that photo in ten years). I pick ones I like and ones I feel like help to move my overall story of the week forward within my album.
For this year's album I printed two photos for each day at the 6x8 size, at least two that were 4x6 (you'll see how I deal with more in my next post), and eight 3x4 photos. On some days, as you'll see below, the 6x8 photos are from the end of the day but on other days they are just ones I felt like enlarging. Most of my photos flow from morning to evening.
Bottom line: I didn't include all the photos I took and I'm totally okay with that. I simply filled all the available pockets with photos and will be using the items from the kit, including the cutting up the journaling cards, to support my story.
// MY PHOTOS SUPPORT MY STORY //
For this project I'm letting my photos support the journaling - the journaling tells a more complete story of my week. Sometimes, in some projects, the photos tell more of the story and other times it's the words and sometimes it's a more equal mixture of both. Again, as with everything we do in this memory keeping arena, there isn't a right or wrong. Remember: you are just walking down a path for this particular project at this time and you can totally choose to walk down a different path for the next project.
One thing that was interesting to me as I flipped through my album after I got all the photos into the pockets was that it became super clear that this is really an album about me and my days right now. I am the main character in this particular story and my family members are the supporting characters. They come in and out of the story throughout the week. In some past years my story has more heavily featured my kids - different seasons, different weeks, etc. It's all part of the overall story of my life and it's one of the reasons I continue to do this project - that opportunity to actually see the evolution of my life is one of my favorite parts of memory keeping.
// NEXT UP FOR ME //
Stamping the time onto my photos using the Time Roller Stamp and StazOn.
Adding embellishments from the kit + stickers. Most likely I will be cutting up some of the journal cards from the kit to create additional embellishments for my album.
Check out my 16-minute video overview and hear me talk about the choices I made for this album and why:
Here's a look at all my printed photos in the pockets of my album before adding embellishments:

Want to learn more about how I work with my photos - everything from how I look through the lens, to uploading + organizing + editing + printing? Check out my Lens Of Joy workshop for an in-depth look at my processes and how I think as I look through the lens of my camera.
Thanks for being part of this storytelling adventure! I'll have another post soon showing how I add my embellishments.

Over the last few months I've been playing around with the idea of creating a 6x8 album for each of the awesome kids that are now part of this family. I've also just been experimenting with 6x8 sized layouts to see what I think about them in general - are they a good match for the kinds of stories I'm into telling these days?
Most of the 6x8 layouts I've been making have been included in the Story Kit™ classrooms and I have grown really fond of this size. I'm not planning to quit doing the larger sized pages (both 12x12 and 8.5x11) or Project Life® spreads - they are all part of my overall memory keeping adventures - but I do love the 6x8 size. What I really love is having a choice based on the stories I want to tell. This size often feels just right for my photo-centered, story-based layouts along with a few intentional embellishments.
My goal is for each kid to have a 6x8 album that tells stories about them. They won't be albums that start at the newborn stage, they'll just be stories starting from this point going forward. I want to document stories about each one of them as they come up and as I feel inspired to record certain things I'm witnessing in their lives. They will be word/story heavy and they will communicate love.
In addition to the albums for the kids I will also have an annual album or an album that holds a couple of years depending on how many stories I tell that are this size. I could add these to my larger 12x12 albums but I like the idea of having a home for them that is smaller.
The layout above is one I made for a lesson in my Hybrid workshop which teaches you how to use digital products on paper projects. This is now a self-paced workshop that you can begin at anytime.
I was seriously so happy when I was finally able to put these layouts into albums.
Here's a video that will give you a closer look at these albums and I explain a bit more about how I plan to use them:
As always, thank you for your support of my brand and my mission to encourage and empower us all to value our own stories.
Give your projects a home!
