The Beastly Bride arrives!

Or at least one copy has. And it looks marvelous.
There will be at least one reading in New York City--June 7th at McNally Jackson. Not sure of all the contributors who will be attending, but Jeffrey Ford, Gregory Frost, Steve Berman, and Nan Fry have committed to being there so far.

Here's the table of contents

I'm home--with a cold, and catching up

Got home last night after a miserable flight (not because of the airline, Virgin, which is fantatastic!) because of the brewing cold. Cough, lumpy/sore-ish throat. Not very happy. I drank a lot of orange juice and water, watched two movies--The Informant, which I loathed (Matt Damon was great but I just hated the character and didn't find him very funny) and UP, which I loved (I'd seen the first ten minutes going over but wasn't able to finish) and some tv shows (episode of Bones, which I lik...

And....

I can now announce that I'm a Guest of Honor at Swancon 36 in Perth, Australia, 2011. I'm very excited to return to Perth. I was there in 1995 co-guesting with Pat Cadigan. It was my first time in Australia and I was overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone involved and surprised in the crossing interests of the attendees--the readers/gamers/etc all mingled far more than at US conventions. That was also the first time I traveled to Sydney and Melbourne. Since then, I've had the opportunity t...

In London one more night &...Hugo nominations

After spending 3 days and evenings at the convention hotel at Heathrow, Pat Cadigan and I were grateful to Colin Harris for recommending the Pheasant, a wonderful restaurant around the corner from the hotel. So for my last dinner at Eastercon, I had one of the best racks of lamb ever, at much less than I've had before--also fresh (not overcooked) veggies, roasted potatoes that tasted great (first time this weekend). I was in heaven. Thank you Colin.

Last night I attended the announcement of th...

Winding down from World Horror in Brighton

I wrote a post, but the internet connection crashed just as I tried to send it so this is going to be REALLY brief.

Had a great time in Brighton even though the jetlag I thought I'd defeated while still in London caught up with me Friday night. I crashed at 8pm, was so wiped out I didn't eat dinner, and slept 12 hours. Overall, had a wonderful time with old friends and new--writers I've worked with and/or communicated with for several years but never met.

Back in London for the next two night...

Off to Brighton today

Having a fine time--ooh the sun just came out in London after much rain last night. I'm in a cafe down the block from Kim Newman's where I've stayed the past two nights. Free wifi here. Kim's walls are so thick that not only can he not get the free wifi available for the block, but no cell phone service either. So I had to walk out into the courtyard if I needed to check messages.

Panel at Middlesex U with Ramsey and Lisa Tuttle went well yesterday--daffodils in bloom on the campus lawn! Nast...

Off to the UK tomorrow

I take off for World Horror, Odysseycon,Wales, and London in between until April 6th. I've no idea how often I'll be online --it depends on time and access to wifi.

When I get back I'll post the 50 Honorable Mentions that made it into the print Best Horror of the Year, volume 2 and see if I can post the rest of them in sections (so that they don't blow up my facebook page, which is where these posts end up).

A few movies: Friday night I watched Bridget Bardot in And God Created Woman, with Cur...

Author Peter Watts Found Guilty

Peter Watts has been found guilty of "assaulting, resisting and obstructing a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer" and will face sentencing of up to two years in prison, April 26th.

Peter is amazingly gracious to all those involved in his trial, including the prosecutor, judge, jury, and even some of the guards. See his blog post Guilty
