New Sewing Pattern, Huldfrejya, the troll queen from Tangled Magick!
From my new children’s book, Tangled Magick, the sequel to Hapenny Magick, comes Huldfrejya, the troll queen in the tale. She captures the happennies and turns them into slaves…but is she really the villain?

Eyes and fangs are needle felted, fingers are wired, thread jointed. Pattern is written and illustrated. Best for intermediate sewing levels. $14.00 and available in my Etsy shop, Patternmart or Craftsy.

The making of a musical, take 2!! Hapenny Magick
Courtney working with Will on “A Storm is Coming”
Making a musical is a lot of work, but how can I complain about something that I love so much? I can’t! It was wonderful getting to work with William Ogmundson on this project and we have a show that we can be proud of.
Not only did I get to work with Will, but I got to work with some very talented local performers as well.
Courtney is a sophomore and wants to pursue a career in musical theater. She has been in the junior intern program at our local summer stock theater with my son Aaron for several years.
You can hear Courtney singing “A Storm is Coming” by pressing play in the media bar below!

My oldest son Colin in the recording studio.
Not only did I get to work with talented rising stars like Courtney, but my own boys also recorded the music with me. Colin took the role of Callum and helped teach us what being a Hybilia Froedlicker is all about. Check Callum’s song out by pressing the play button on the media player below!

And I couldn’t help myself but share a bit of “A Troll Has Got To Eat” sang by husband and wife duo, Linda Altson-Lambert and Jay Lambert.
And of course, I couldn’t stay away from all the fun! So I let Will talk me into singing the parts for Maewyn.
Here is the song I co-wrote with Will, “Come Back To Me”. It has a special place in my heart.

The Digital Human Library
Did you know you could find me in the Digital Human Library? What’s the Digital Human Library? I’m glad you asked!
The Digital Human Library (dHL) is a free educational resource that connects Canadian teachers and students with organizations and experts from all over the world. K-12 teachers registered with the dHL can search for meBook experts like they would search for books in a library. dHL meBooks can then be borrowed to collaborate with classroom teachers on an activity, lesson, or presentation that would later be shared with students using videoconferencing solutions like Skype, FieldTripZoom, H.323 technology, or Google+ Hangouts … So now, in addition to the use of books and other classroom resources, students can now engage with real people, in real time, using videoconferencing technology to learn curriculum-based concepts and skills in new and exciting ways. The Digital Human Library brings the field trip experience into the classroom!
Today there are hundreds of meBooks registered with the dHL, like the Art Gallery of Ontario, Royal Botanical Gardens, and Canadian Aviation and Space Museum. meBooks are experts in a variety of subject areas who are interested in sharing their knowledge and expertise with students to help enrich our classroom programs and provide support for teachers. Field trips and guest speakers are expensive, and in many cases the distances are far too great for students to travel. As a result, teachers can offer only a few of these exciting opportunities for learning over the course of the school year. The Digital Human Library is a resource that provides teachers and students with unlimited access to these unique learning opportunities not otherwise available from any other type of classroom resource.
Videoconferencing makes it easy and affordable for teachers to bring the field trip experience into the classroom. Imagine your child sharing stories of adventures to museums, archaeological digs, art galleries, and festivals, or explaining what the class learned from an optometrist, farmer, and musician! The possibilities are endless . . .
The Digital Human Library creates opportunities for teachers and community members to work together to inspire student inquiry, increase student engagement and participation, improve student learning and achievement, and strengthen relationships between communities and schools. These partnerships enhance learning opportunities for students, as well as incorporate 21st century content, global perspectives, learning skills, resources, and technologies into our classroom programs to create resources for students that are relevant, current, accessible and inclusive.
We always talk about how we need to make the world better for our kids. We also need to make the kids better for our world. ~ Martin Molata
Get involved! Try something new. Together we can transform learning in ways that will inspire our students achieve success.
If you would like more information about the Digital Human Library, please visit their blog, or contact Leigh by email.

Any Way You Slice It, Cover reveal and giveaway!
My good friend, Kris Asselin’s new book is coming this April!! You can win a free copy by entering here.
Here’s what the book is about:
Penelope Spaulding just can’t catch a break. Between long hours at the family restaurant, homework, and her parents’ plans for her future, it’s hard to find a spare moment to breathe. But when she laces up her skates and steps on the ice, everything slips away…
Racing around the rink allows her to blow off steam after yet another fight with her dad about going to culinary school. So when Jake Gomes, the bad boy who lives down the street, dares her to join the Rink Rats, the local misfit hockey team, she surprises herself and joins in silent defiance of her father and his expectations.
The more she plays, the easier it is to keep lying, and soon Pen finds it impossible to come clean. She’s sneaking out to practice—and loving every minute of it. It doesn’t take long for her to fall in love with hockey…and Jake’s not half bad either. But she knows it can’t last. As soon as her dad finds out, she’ll be benched. For good.
She’s absolutely not going to tell her parents until she’s sure it will be worth the inevitable fight. Not only is she skipping shifts at Slice Pizza while a foodie reality show is on the horizon, but her lies are starting to take their toll on her game. It’s only a matter of time before everything falls apart.
With the team counting on her and with her relationship with Jake on the line, will she have to sacrifice the thing she wants most for the people she loves? Or can she step up and take her best shot?
ANY WAY YOU SLICE IT will be available HERE from Bloomsbury Spark on April 7, 2015.
