Watch me create! Watercolor illustration demo

Recently I recorded myself painting as part of the Chelsea District Library’s Young at Art show featuring Caldecott winning book covers. You can see the show in person through the end of the month! This seven hour painting was reduced to seven minutes! Earlier this month I also participated in a live demonstration and Q&A session with library patrons. I am hoping to post that recorded session soon, but below is the video a photo of the painting I did during the live session!

Hapenny Magick has a new cover!

With the return of my rights to my books, Hapenny Magick and Tangled Magic this past spring, I decided to give Hapenny an update. Featuring artwork by one of my favorite faerie artist, Patricia MacDougall, who also did the wonderful interior illustrations, the new cover is just gorgeous!
What do you think? The new edition is available everywhere on September 1st, or you can order an autographed copy, here.

Four new sewing patterns to boost your creativity!

Need a boost to your summer creative juices? Four new sewing pattern designs have recently been published!Oliver the Owl

Oliver the Owl gryphon is a 12″ jointed and wired poseable stuffed animal with a 16″ wingspan. I took my hoot pattern and went a little wild creating this guy! He’s the perfect companion for a little one that needs a nighttime guardian. You can find the sewing pattern here.

Ella the Elasmotherium

Ella the Elasmotherium, or the first unicorn–she’s a lot cuter than the artistic models I’ve seen, and she’s pink! But you could make her blue or purple, or yellow, or whatever! Based on recent discoveries of this fantastic prehistoric mammal, Ella is hand sewn and made from wool felt. Her horn is 4″ long. Her body is 8″ long and she stands at 6″ at her highest point. She has a poseable figure cord skeleton to allow for imaginative play! You can find her sewing pattern here.

Waldorf inspired Dollhouse Doll Waldorf inspired Dollhouse Doll

Waldorf inspired Dollhouse Doll that is 4-1/2″ to 5″ and poseable! Instructions are for a doll made in the Waldorf style.  Directions include lots of photos to guide you through the process. Materials and suppliers list included as well. This pattern does not include a pattern for clothes, just the doll. Clothing patterns are in progress! You can see examples of finished dolls like her, herePurchase the sewing pattern here.

The Pixie Princess

The Pixie Princess is a “typical” Dragon Charmer trace and sew pattern. She is made from hand-dyed wool with needle felted hair and eyes. She is 7″ tall when sitting and 10.5″ overall. Thread jointed. Directions for her sweet dress included, too. Find her sewing pattern here. You can purchase her crown on thedragoncharmer.com as well!

A New Title in the Sew & Play Book Series, in the works! Make imaginative toys for kids.

A new title for my Sew & Play series of books (you can see the first title, Sew & Play, Enchanted Forest Toys and all of the great toy patterns it contains here), Sew & Play, Chivalry Friends, is in the works!

Besides some great new characters for your little ones to play with, I’m also going to include fun imagination boosters like a castle playscape, and a wagon that will really roll, as well as a bit of history behind each animal and their meaning when used in heraldry. Here is a sneak peek at the first 4 animal characters I’m including. No worries, I will also be including some ladies, and a noble steed.
