Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce interviews Josh Miles to talk Bold Brand and AEC Marketing

The Seattle DJC asked Miles for some tips for architecture, engineering and construction firms. Here’s what he had to say:

Q: How should AEC firms evaluate their websites?

A: 1. Does your website help your firm stand out? Cover up the logos on your homepage and a competitor’s website. Can you quickly discern who is who? If you can’t tell them apart, how will prospects?

Video Review: Drew Davis from Tippingpoint Labs

Bold Brand is a weekend warrior read! Start reading it on Friday night, be ready to re-vamp your professional services brand by Monday morning… seriously. This is exactly what I did. By Monday morning I’d completely embraced Mr. Miles’ framework for getting to your “Bold Brand Essence” and I’d begun leveraging his strategic thinking to hone in on my “wedge strategy.” This book is full of practical and tactical advice designed to help my kind of business. I’m not Apple, or IBM. I’m not Pepsi or Coca Cola… I sell services and this book spoke to me.

I wish I’d had access to Bold Brand thinking, ten years ago when I started my firm. My value proposition to clients and the way I differentiate my company and the services we offer might have been completely different. I’m ready to leverage what I’ve learned to make an impact in my business. Thanks Josh Miles for scaling your insight for people like me. If you run (or want to run) anything from a contracting business to an architecture firm or an accounting agency to a talent agency – this book is for you!

Thank you to Drew Davis at Tippingpoint Labs for the review!

Josh Miles is Speaking at Build Business 2012 San Francisco, CA

Build Business San Francisco 2012Are you attending the SMPS national conference? This year it’s in beautiful San Francisco, CA. I’ll be co-presenting with Taryn Erickson during the Friday session on “A/E/C Web Site Emergency: The Secrets to Creating an Online Business Development Machine.”

In professional services marketing, it’s easy for our web sites and marketing materials to quickly become stale and outdated. Many times, your firm’s web site appears to be the root issue, sounding the alarm for an all-out “marketing emergency.” In this session, investigate why your web site is only a symptom of a firmwide business development problem. The presenters will help you diagnose your online presence as a whole and identify where underlying issues may be. In addition, you will explore the latest online strategies and tactics for driving inbound marketing leads and the proper role your corporate web site needs to play as the hub for your marketing activity. Attendees will work in small groups to troubleshoot their firms’ issues and brainstorm solutions to specific problems on the spot.

And I’ll be doing a book signing of Bold Brand following the presentation on Friday from 2:45 – 3:10 pm in the SMPS Bookstore. See you there?

It’s Here! The Bold Brand Book Proof

It’s a pretty surreal experience seeing your own book in print, and receiving a copy of it in the mail.

So the short version of this story… The proof finally arrived this week, and we approved the printer to run it!

We should have books available and in hand by mid-July. Stay tuned, and pre-order now!

The Proof is Here

Bold Brand is off to the Presses

After nearly 11 months of working in collaboration with Content Marketing Institute, my very first book, Bold Brand, is off to the printer.

On one hand it feels like a giant accomplishment, but as an author who is also a marketer, I know it’s just the beginning. This week we’re scrambling to get this website complete, update our Bold Brand Twitter account, create a Facebook page for the book, finalize the free sample chapter, and continue to plan for what the next few weeks will entail.

Best of all, the guys at CMI have been fantastic to work with. We had several publishers we were looking at, and while anyone probably could have done a great job with this book, the CMI team was a great fit for me and what I needed.

My wife doesn’t know this yet, but I’m already thinking about what book #2 will be. So, wish me luck!

Are you charged with marketing your professional services fi rm? I thought so, which
is what attracted you to this book. In that case, take the next step—buy it, and apply
it. You’ll be glad you did, because it will be your secret weapon when it comes to
differentiating yourself from your (badly branded) competition.”
