Leigh Bardugo's Blog, page 771

You've said in college, you changed your major a lot. What did you change between, and what did you ultimately go for?

Erm, so my big dream when I went to college was to join the Royal Shakespeare Company. But I didn’t want to be a theater major. Or audition for things. I just wanted Kenneth Branagh to show up in a tweed jacket and say, “You!”

I tried American Studies.

And Classics.

And I ended right back up at English.

Fickle, fickle girl.

Title: Siege and Storm

Author: Leigh Bardugo

Publication Date: June 5, 2012

Publisher: Henry Holt and Company

Rating:1000000000000000000000000/10

**Spoiler FREE**

I just finished reading Siege and Storm, and bare with my my emotions are a little bit rampant at the moment. That said, Siege and Storm is a roller coaster ride filled with surprises at every turn. Siege and Storm has surpassed every expectation I had;I cannot explain to you how perfect this book is!

Siege and Storm picks up where Shadow and Bone leaves off, in other words there is no time wasted summarizing what has happened, the reader is pulled in from  the Before and is held in a tight grip until the After. You will find yourself sitting at the edge of your seat clutching the book as you fly through pages without realizing that it’s 4 am and that maybe you should get some sleep. Siege and Storm brings back the characters many of us have come to love (or hate?) in Shadow and Bone and introduces some new and very exciting characters. Also, the word that Leigh Bardugo has created in Shadow and Bone becomes bigger, richer, darker, and even more dangerous.

Siege and Storm is on my Summer 2013’s Most Anticipated List (you can bet you last dollar that I will be buying it when it comes out :D )

Mark you calenders for June 4, 2013, and when the day finally arrives go out and get your copies, I promise you that it will be one of the most riveting books you have ever read.

HOOOOORAY!! So happy you enjoyed it

Face it: most librarians are probably cooler than you.

If you love books, you have to love librarians.

Céline Hubert coordinated her nails AND her hair with the French cover of Shadow and Bone aka Les Orphelins du Royaume (aka Book 1 of the Grisha Trilogy). LOVE IT.

How did you manage to find an agent that was the right fit for you? I'm currently trying to find my own, and I get positive responses but ultimately rejection because they don't feel they're the best for me or my manuscript. Do you have any suggestions? Th

First of all, I’m sorry that you’re struggling. I know the querying process can be hellish. But keep in mind that when agents take the time to deliver anything more than a form response, you should take their praise and their regrets seriously. They aren’t just buttering your parsnips.

I don’t think I can tell you anything new regarding finding the right agent. Make sure to keep up on sales through the Publisher’s Marketplace web site. Use Query Tracker and Agent Query as well (though I don’t think their info is always up to date?).

If the agent has a blog, read it. A twitter account? Follow it. Use google alerts so you know when an agent you like has been interviewed somewhere. This will help you to keep up to date on what people are looking for.

Also, don’t just go for the fancy, big name peeps. It’s important that you go with a reputable agency and that you CHOOSE WISELY, but someone young, hungry, and building his or her list may be just the right person for you.

I wish I had more to offer in the way of advice or expertise. Just know that my fingers are crossed for you. Good luck
