How did you manage to find an agent that was the right fit for you? I'm currently trying to find my own, and I get positive responses but ultimately rejection because they don't feel they're the best for me or my manuscript. Do you have any suggestions? Th

First of all, I’m sorry that you’re struggling. I know the querying process can be hellish. But keep in mind that when agents take the time to deliver anything more than a form response, you should take their praise and their regrets seriously. They aren’t just buttering your parsnips.

I don’t think I can tell you anything new regarding finding the right agent. Make sure to keep up on sales through the Publisher’s Marketplace web site. Use Query Tracker and Agent Query as well (though I don’t think their info is always up to date?).

If the agent has a blog, read it. A twitter account? Follow it. Use google alerts so you know when an agent you like has been interviewed somewhere. This will help you to keep up to date on what people are looking for.

Also, don’t just go for the fancy, big name peeps. It’s important that you go with a reputable agency and that you CHOOSE WISELY, but someone young, hungry, and building his or her list may be just the right person for you.

I wish I had more to offer in the way of advice or expertise. Just know that my fingers are crossed for you. Good luck
