Want a signed and personalized copy of Shadow and Bone?

In April, I’ll be signing at TeenBookCon in Houston and the wonderful Blue Willow Bookshop is taking orders for those who can’t attend. They’re one of my favorite indie booksellers and they ship!

A full list of authors is included in the link above. I intend to get a few things signed myself :)

(And If you do order, please make sure to give me a heads up or include your tumblr/twitter handle in the order so I can lavish extra attention on those copies <3)

So I was wondering, in the beginning of chapter 2, who puts their hand on Alina's cheek? Probably irrelevant, but I was curious, haha.

Well sure I COULD tell you… but isn’t it more delicious to wonder?

(I’m too under the weather to caper away, but imagine me doing it anyway ;)

Had a lovely writer’s workshop with Leigh Bardugo these past two Sundays and learned a lot.  And now I’m sad it’s over. D:

Also, y’all should totes read her Shadow and Bone book soon because the sequel is coming out soon and I almost typed “sequeal” there but really combining sequel and squeal is an accurate description.

You were a fantastic student and I can’t wait to see what you do next <3 (And thanks for the kind words on S&B!)

When the new X-men lineup was announced I, of course, thought it was amazing and refreshing and about damn time.  It wasn’t until a friend of mine brought the new team up again that the idea for another X-fashion developed.  It really was a “duh” moment for me - they’re ripe for a fashion piece, and not just because they’re women but because they are some of THE biggest female names of the X-men.  So I went for it.  Wanted something a little more dynamic than X-fashions of the past.  My main thought going in was more pants, less dresses and frippery.  Of course there’s still bling and heels - you can’t take away all the fun - but I wanted fashion that was a bit more street, more real, a little more badass.

Rachel is grunge.  Love her jacket, not so happy with her shirt.

Psylocke is NYC fashionista tomboy.  Dip dyed hair (so trendy) and a butterfly print blouse.

I’m really happy with Kitty’s dragon t-shirt and bad ass heels.  Had to get a shoe in there somewhere, people.

Storm is my 80s executive realness.  Her earring is fashioned after the one Willi Ninja bought (he has the receipt) in Paris is Burning.

My southern belle is in a loud print and hose - she’s the only one in a dress.  I wanted her in printed leggings but she was already such a patterned mess I decided against it.

And Jubes is just all over the place.  Bikini and hot pants and a bedazzled jacket.

The original will be going up in the store as soon as tomorrow.  Prints as well - in TWO sizes :)  Hope you guys like it, let me know what you think!

One day, when I have money, I will give some of that money to Kevin Wada.

BEST COSTUMES FOR THE DAY.

Lovelove lovety lovelove.

RYEVOST’s lamb and fresh bread

“My mouth watered at the smells of roasting lamb and fresh bread, and I treated myself to an apple as I refreshed my supplies of hard cheese and dried meat.” S&B (hardcover p. 252)

Here, roasted lamb steak with mint, soda bread, (Parmesan cheese, Soppresseta/dry salami, apple)

Roasted lamb steaks with mint (for 4)

2 lamb steaks

2 tsp mustard (Dijon best)

1/4 medium onion (coarsely chopped)

4 garlic cloves

1/4 cup olive oil (+1/2 tsp for pan)

1  1/2 cup fresh mint leaves

Oil large skillet with the 1/2 tsp of oil. On high heat, sear the steaks on both sides until well browned (1- 2 minutes each).

Remove steaks from skillet and place them in a shallow baking pan. Cook in a 425 degree oven for about 7 minutes (the lamb should be cooked medium-rare, when meat thermometer reaches 130 degrees).

In a mortar (or in food processor), place the remaining ingredients and crush them to make a paste.  Use paste as a condiment or spread onto lamb steaks after searing but before placing in oven).

Fresh bread (soda bread):

4 cups of flour

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp salt

14 oz buttermilk

Combine all the dry ingredients together. Add the buttermilk last.

Knead lightly. Baked in a 415 degree-oven for about 30-40 minutes (crust should be golden)
