Reading the Classics: Review of T.H. White's "The Candle in the Wind"
"The King was on the threshold. He came in, the quiet old man who had done his best so long. He looked older than his age, which was considerable. His royal eye took in the situation without a flicker. He moved across the cloister to kiss Mordred gently, and smiled upon them all." -- The Candle in the Wind, chapter 2As the books of "Once and Future King" go on, the fourth and what was almost the last book in the series discusses the last few weeks of King Arthur's reign. This is a heartrendin...

#NaNoWriMo : Story for the Day: The Missing Grimalkin
The Missing Grimalkin
In honour of Mo-vember, my writing partners Upon reaching the ports at Marridon, Edvin had not left the wharf when he discovered that he was a Grimalkin. The ancient family of knights and lords whose banners were seen waving from the high veranda of the Chambers were now become his livery. His documents had said it was so, but he had thought it his arrival should excited little more regard than that of a yeoman might, but upon reaching the steps leading...

#NaNoWriMo : Story for the Day: The Knight
Edvin and Ephani are two characters from later books in the series. In short, Ephani is an adopted heiress and Edvin is named as her knight and protector. Ephani, having been shut up with books the chief of her life thus far, is enchanted with all the majesty that knights can provide, but even more enchanting for her is Edvin's unwillingness to show his face. Many say he is cursed, others say he is hideous and therefore screens his face from view to spare himself the embarrassment, but...

#NaNoWriMo : Story for the Day: The Moustache
Hilarious, and oh so unprepossessingNovember is many things. It is my favourite month, it is National Novel Writing Month, but it is also Mo-vember or No-shave November, or as I affectionately call it National Celebacy Month on account of the shocking amount of moustaches flying about. Moustaches, to me, are hilarious in theory. I have one on my coffee mug and make more excellent japes, but as a woman I can tell you honestly that they are possibly the most unattractive items in the world...

#NaNoWriMo Challenge: Story for the Day: The Tavern
I hurt my wrist so the writing is a little slow today. Here is the continuation of the National Novel Writing Month challenge. Enjoy!
The Tavern
The winnings gathered and cloaks got, Teague and Mureadh left the keep and went toward the Wayward Traveler, Teague with a satisfied countenance and Mureadh with a slightly less hopeful expression. A good meal, however, would revive his spirits, and still further a rejuvenation was the beginnings of holiday merriment prevalent...

#NaNoWriMo Challenge: Story for the Day: The Card Game
Here in Frewyn, we're doing the NaNoWriMo mega challenge: writing 50,000 words a week for 4 weeks. So far, the word count is at 12,000 for the week. Here is one of the stories I wrote for the day. Enjoy!
The Card Game
[image error] WIP of Teague by Twisk As Nerri and Merra were gone out together before the preparatory holiday visit, Teague proposed a few rounds of cards to be played in the soldier's mess with Bilar, Mureadh, and Connors. Bilar professed a visit to Rithea for the holiday was...

#Halloween Story for the Day: Seamhair Cake
The Seamhair Cake
Twisk make a Leraa pumpkin. I had to post it. Autumn soon came and with it came all the gaieties of Seamhair. The Frewyn holiday commemorating and immortalizing the dead was celebrated by the kingdom through the usual avenues of brewing mulled apple cider, of guising and carousing about the town in quest of treats, of attending Church services if only to enjoy the feast of spiced bread and sugared apple dumplings, and of ornamenting the square and homes with...

#Halloween Story for the Day: A Perfect Welcome
The legend of Cillian and Gilean is famous in Frewyn, much like the Scarlet Pimpernel or Robin Hood is for us. Many people in Frewyn dress up as the outlaw and his lady for Seamhair, their All Hallow's Eve. Happy Halloween!
A Perfect Welcome
Ghodhina and Teague Teague bounded up the steps to his home with all the felicity his eager spirits could command. He was in an ecstasy to have seen the amber glow of candlelight through their bedroom window and was even more in raptures...

Reading the Classics: Review of T.H. White's "The Ill-Made Knight"
I did a review of "Once and Future King" by T.H. White earlier in the week, but because the third book in the series, "The Ill-Made Knight", is my favourite one of the five, I felt a separate review was necessary.
We all know the story of Lancelot: King Arthur's most intimate friend, one of the greatest knights of the round table, handsome, skillful, clever, fell in love with Gwynevere, etc. Malory's Morte D'Arthur shows us the gallant and prepossessing side of the famous knight,. but T.H. Whi...
