Prunes boost IGF-1 levels in humans
Looking for a carbohydrate-rich pre-workout snack? But not so keen on all those products that are bursting with refined sugars? Researchers at Oklahoma State University say that prunes boost your IGF-1 level.
The researchers wanted to know whether dried plums would help bone build-up to increase, so they got 20 women to eat 100g dried plums every day for three months. That's about 12 dried plums a day.
One hundred grams dried plums contain about 240 kcal, derived mainly from glucose and fructose, but also sorbitol, which is less easily digested. One hundred grams dried plums contain about 15 g sorbitol. If you are sensitive to sorbitol, this is a dose that can have a laxative effect. But for most people, sorbitol only starts to have a laxative effect with an intake of 22-30 g. The researchers only lost one subject because of this problem.
The IGF-1 concentration rose by 17 percent in the experimental group. IGF-1 has an anabolic effect in bone tissue, but also in muscle tissue.

Study:Testosterone Helps Obese Men Trim Waistline
Obese hypogonadal men lost an average of 36 pounds during long-term testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), results of a prospective cohort study showed. The men also shed 3.5 inches from their waistline as they lost fat mass and added lean body mass to their body composition. Overall, 95% of the 255 men lost weight during TRT for as long as 5 years, and 97% had reduction in waist circumference. So far as investigators know, the men improved their physical status without really trying, as reported here at the ENDO 2012 meeting.

Approach to Men with Gynecomastia (Breast Enlargement)
Dr Harold E. Carlson, M.D. from the Department of Medicine, Endocrinology Division of Stony Brook University in New York, wrote a great paper about the management of gynecomastia (enlargement of breast tissue in men caused by increased estradiol originated by medications, testosterone therapy or other causes).

Roger Clemens Trial Costed The Tax Payers $10,548,772
A jury unanimously found Clemens not guilty of the six charges against him after a day and a half of deliberations. It was a result of a two-month trial and five-year investigation that cost the federal government $10,548,772I am so glad Clemens won. I am so sick of the stupid witch hunt that costs tax payers millions of dollars. They are so many important issues that congress should be using their time for. Like marijuana, they need to legalize personal and physician monitored anabolic steroid use for those who want to use them to improve their quality of life and performance. Only this way harm reduction will happen.
In 20-30 years when we have more data on the effects of androgens on the quality of life and frailty of aging people, we will look back at this time as a sad period of unnecessary and costly witch hunts that resemble the McCarthy era.
We allow people to take huge risks with cosmetic surgery but do not allow doctors to prescribe anabolics like nandrolone to those who want to do so scientifically with a physician's monitoring. We want our sports people to be super heroes. We pay them millions and pay high prices to see them. Let them get a competitive edge with a medically monitored program, and let aging men and women access these therapies!
Had those 11 million dollars been spent on aging research, we would all be better off. We need harm reduction..and witch hunts only promote unmonitored anabolic use (yes, media exposure on these cases is the best advertising for young people to use them underground).
I have seen miracles in HIV with the use of these compounds. HIV is just accelerated aging and the world should learn from our experience.

Estrogen is Important for Men to Keep Healthy Neurological System
This study discussed the role on estrogen on preventing neurodegeneration. This important function of estrogen is one of the reasons I warn men not to lower estradiol too much: we need it for healthy brain function and to protect against neurological degeneration. Yes, excess estradiol may increase breast tissue size, cause water retention, moodiness and erectile dysfunction and some men need to lower it while on testosterone replacement therapy with aromatase inhibitors. But overdosing these agents can wipe one's estradiol. Bone density loss, worse hair and skin health, and cognitive issues may appear the. So, be conservative and retest a month after starting anastrazole or tamoxifen (two of the several aromatase inhibitors available). Adjust dose so that estradiol is not under 15-20 pg/dL or over 35 pg/dL. Some men only require 0.5 mg of anastrazole 2-3 times a week after induction therapy of 1 mg per day for 3 days. However, no optimum dosing protocol has been studied in men on testosterone who experience large estradiol increases on therapy.

Exercise-Induced Testosterone Has No Role In Bodybuilding: Study
A new study has exposed as myth the popular belief that increased levels of hormones after intense weight-training sessions play a key role in building muscles.Researchers at McMaster University have found that exercise-induced testosterone and growth hormone do not play any influential role in building muscle after weightlifting.

Be Careful with Accutane for Acne- It Can Disrupt Your Hormones

Acta Derm Venereol. 2011 Jan;91(1):31-4.Isotretinoin influences pituitary hormone levels in acne patients.Karadag AS, Ertugrul DT, Tutal E, Akin KO.SourceDepartment of Dermatology, Yuzuncu Yil University, Ankara, Turkey. drayserem@yahoo.comAbstractBesides suppressing sebum production, the exact mechanism of action of isotretinoin in acne vulgaris is not known. Several hormones have been linked to the pathogenesis of acne. In this study, we investigated the effects of isotretinoin on the pituitary-adrenal axis, whose activity may be increased in acne. Various hormone systems were evaluated before and after 3 months of isotretinoin treatment in 47 acne patients. Free triiodothyronine (T3), thyroid-stimulating hormone and thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor antibody levels decreased significantly during isotretinoin treatment (p < 0.001, p < 0.02 and p < 0.02, respectively), as did those of luteinising hormone, prolactin and total testosterone (p < 0.005), as well as morning cortisol and adrenocorticotropic hormone (p < 0.005 and p < 0.05, respectively). We conclude that isotretinoin causes mild suppression of pituitary hormone levels, which may be beneficial for tackling the pathogenesis of acne.

Is Testosterone Treatment Good for the Prostate? Study of Safety during Long-Term Treatment- A 20 year study with 1365 men
http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1743-6109.2012.02808.x/abstract
One thousand three hundred sixty-five men aged 28–87 (mean 55) years with symptomatic androgen deficiency and receiving testosterone replacement therapy- TRT have been monitored for up to 20 years. All patients were prescreened for prostate cancer by digital rectal exam and prostatic specific antigen-PSA along with endocrine, biochemical, hematological, and urinary profiles at baseline and every 6 months. Abnormal findings or rising PSA were investigated by transrectal ultrasound and prostate biopsy. The data were compared for the four different testosterone preparations used in TRT, including pellet implants, Restandol, mesterolone, and Testogel.
The incidence of prostate cancer during long-term TRT was equivalent to that expected in the general population. This study adds to the considerable weight of evidence that with proper clinical monitoring, testosterone treatment is safe for the prostate and improves early detection of PCa. Testosterone treatment with regular monitoring of the prostate may be safer for the individual than any alternative without surveillance.
