Seeing they were alone, she grabbed the front of his shirt and pulled him into her room.“What’s going on?” Mason asked as she locked the door behind them.She turned back to him. “Just making sure Alicia isn’t around.”“About that...” Before he could continue, Harper pushed him back, and he toppled onto the bed.“She ambushed you,” Harper said, explaining for him. “I know.”“You do? Then why did it seem like you were furious with me?”She stepped toward the bed, positioning her leg between his. “Because that’s what I wanted Alicia to think. She gave me this sob story about how she loved you in high school, but you were into me. She even said you cried out my name in a moment of passion.” She laughed. “I actually believed her.”“That’s because it’s true,” Mason confessed, feeling his cheeks warm.Harper cocked her head. “You really did that?”He nodded, not wanting to say it aloud again. “It’s not something I’m proud of. I know now that I never should have dated her, but at the time I figured she was looking to raise her social status and I was trying to pass the time until you and Rick split up. It seemed like a fair trade.”Harper lowered herself on top of him. “So you were thinking of me while you were...?” He could tell she didn’t want to finish the statement, so he nodded again. “I know it’s awful, but I was a dumb kid at the time.”She dipped her head so her mouth was mere centimeters from his. “It isawful. But it’s also the sweetest thing in a way. I had no idea your feelings for me were so strong.”Mason placed his hands on her hips, pulling her harder against him. “You wore watermelon lip gloss freshman year but stopped using it because Rick didn’t like the taste of it.”Her head jerked back. “How did you know that?”“Rick’s locker was near mine. He liked to talk. I figure most of what he said was made up, nothing but stories to make him look better. But there were a few I knew were true.”“What else did he say?” She lowered herself to her elbows, her chest pressing down on his.Mason wasn’t about to tell her that Rick had boasted about the number of times they’d supposedly had sex each week. Or that he’d claimed he’d had bite marks on his chest and shoulders from when she’d stifle her screams in the heat of the moment. Mason had seen the guy change for gym class. He’d never had a single bite mark on him.“You love roses, but only when lilacs aren’t in bloom. You can’t stand the smell of rain because it reminds you of going fishing with your dad when you were little and watching him put live worms on the hook. When you’re nervous, you rub your right ear lobe and fidget with your earring. You hate milk chocolate and only eat dark. You—”Before Mason could continue, Harper’s lips descended on his. She kissed him with such passion he couldn’t think straight. They were both breathing heavily when she pulled away and looked into his eyes.“I never knew. If I had...”He pressed his finger to her lips. “I know.” He removed his finger and nibbled on her lower lip. She cried out, and he soothed the spot with his tongue. Her fingers lowered and gripped his sides. He wrapped his arms around her and spun them so she was lying next to him. With one hand, he lifted the hem of her shirt, trailing his fingers ever so lightly against her stomach. She shuttered under his touch and kissed him forcefully, her tongue dancing with his. Mason’s hand moved upward to cup her breast, massaging it before pinching her nipple between his forefinger and thumb. His mouth left hers and trailed down her neck. She shifted and, in one swift movement, pulled her shirt over her head and tossed it aside. Mason smiled and locked eyes with her before claiming her hard nipple with his mouth. She gripped his head, holding him in place. He teased the nipple with his tongue and teeth before switching to the other side.Her hand reached down, rubbing against his erection, stroking the length of it. He unbuttoned her jeans and helped her shimmy out of them, all the while still kissing her chest. His hand ran down her smooth stomach and settled between her legs. Her pelvis arched toward him as if begging him to keep going. He responded by dipping a finger inside her. Slowly. She moaned and pushed against his hand, deepening the penetration. I'm so proud of her for finishing this one. She found out how difficult it can be to write a sequel.Book Formatting  I have three books to format for a client this week.Writing Break  I had to take a break from my WIP because the next three months are crazy booked with client edits and filled with releases of my own.9/11  Don't forget to take a moment today to remember those affected by 9/11. It's still a day I remember quite clearly.Weather  Lately, I feel like Mother Nature is out to get us. Hurricanes, earth quakes, fires, tornadoes... It's scary. A Taste of Joint Venture....
She smoothed the front of her skirt and twisted in a slow circle. Jessica would be back any second, ready to gnaw off her arm if she took a minute longer to pay for the shoes.
“Excuse me, would you like—”
Startled, she pitched forward. “Ow! What the hell--?” Something hard smacked into her bare shoulder, making her stumble in the sky-high heels. A loud clanging sound followed by shattering glass greeted her as she spun into the salesgirl who had been carrying a platter of champagne flutes, a platter that was now sitting in a large puddle of liquid and smashed crystal. Cold liquid dripped down her arms, pooling on the floor in front of her brand-new and not-yet-paid-for suede shoes. One of the things she loved best about this place was the very thing that could make her cry in that instant.

With a gasp, Lisa quickly tiptoed away from the champagne to avoid collateral damage, but one of the fabric soles didn’t cooperate. Her leg slid out, arms flailing as she skidded to gain the slightest bit of traction. Argh! Can’t fall, can’t ruin the suede!

After one final spin, she stumbled, landing cleanly in the muscular arms of a delectable specimen of a man who had eyes resembling swirls of melted brown chocolate with flecks of gold dancing around in the depths.
Oh.My.God.
Her mouth dropped open, mind paralyzed. Words eluded her… not that there were enough expletives on earth to satisfactorily convey her disgust. But those eyes sent her floating off into the abyss with no recollection of how she’d ended up there in the first place and no immediate desire to return.

Telling him to go fuck himself would be so gratifying, if only her lips would cooperate. Her skin tingled under the pads of his fingertips. Ugh, wasn’t it just like her body to completely betray her like that?
“If you’re about to have another heart attack, I’m ready and willing to stop it again.”Lisa shook her head, opening her mouth but still no words emerged. Her pulse raced like a thoroughbred; that sparkling white smile had rendered her mute, until… “In your dreams,” she finally squeaked.
Really? Her mouth decides to kick it into gear and that’s what comes out?
Egomaniacal Asswad’s grin deepened, that damned dimple making her heart quake. A heady scent swirled in the air. If he hadn’t had such a tight grip on her, she’d have ended up on her ass since her limbs refused to operate under his intoxicating spell. Her fingers itched to crawl through his thick dark hair despite the animosity bubbling in her veins.
“Well, if this were a dream, we’d be on that very cushy couch right about now.”
Argh! He may have the face of a Greek god, but damn, he was arrogant as all hell. “You are such a jackass. I wouldn’t go to the hospital with you if I was wandering around barefoot on hot coals, bleeding out my eyes, and you were the only person on earth with a car.” But despite the caustic tone, the fluttering in her belly persisted. What was that all about? It was new, an unfamiliar sensation, one she’d never experienced.
“You’re not exactly running away.”
“I can’t run in heels this high, but trust me, I’d love nothing more than to put as much distance between us as humanly possible.” She settled her stiletto-clad foot on the still-slippery tile and lifted herself out of his firm grasp. Who the hell did he think he was? She’d rather her ass land in that bubbly puddle than remain in his sleazy clutches a second longer.
“That’s too bad, although the view from behind would be worth it.”
She furrowed her brow, steam practically blasting from her ears as she cocked her head in mock confusion. “Sorry? I didn’t quite get that. But then again, I don’t speak scumbag.” With a swing of her hips, she nearly collided with a brunette saleswoman rushing toward Tall, Dark and Delicious-But-Still-A-Total-Dickhead. Smooth, real smooth.
The woman handed him a large shopping bag and flashed a bright smile. “Here they are! Please give Kayla my best.”

Lisa stifled a snort as she hurried back to the register. Kayla. What a total sleaze, propositioning her while he was picking up shoes for another woman. She spotted Jessica glowering at her. “Don’t be mad, Jessie. I had a little altercation with some champagne glasses, but I’m ready to go.” Cocky bastard didn’t even warrant a mention. She grabbed the empty shoebox and handed it to the salesgirl along with her credit card. Her gaze wandered toward the front of the boutique. Empty, save for the cleaning guy who was mopping up the alcohol-soaked mess. Fairday Morrow woke to a loud crack of thunder. As she bolted upright in bed, her gray eyes flew open. Rain pelted against the window. Electricity charged the air. Lightning flashed, and she saw the old willow tree in her backyard lurching wildly. A whip-like branch smashed the glass and the storm raged into her room. BOOM! The sky lit up. The wind blew in like a tornado, tossing wet leaves and sticks around. Fairday shrieked and ducked under the covers.
“Fairday! Are you okay?” her dad shouted from the hallway.
Auntie Em, the family pug, was barking her head off.
“Yeah, I’m alright,” Fairday answered in a shaky voice. She peeked out from the blankets as a burst of light split the dark. For an instant, glass shards twinkled like stars across the tattered lion-and-unicorn carpet; the heavy drapes flapped, twisting in the wind. On the next lightning strike, Fairday saw a paper blow in through the broken window. But the second she glimpsed it, thunder boomed, the house shook, and everything blacked out.

Jessica Haight & Stephanie Robinson, Co-authors  Jessica Haight and Stephanie Robinson have been friends since they met freshman year of high school. After discovering they both loved the same books, their friendship grew, and they went on to co-author The Secret Files of Fairday Morrow. The first mystery in the Fairday Morrow series, released with Delacorte Press in December 2015. Stephanie and Jess are excited to present the next case in the DMS files. Having the brilliant illustrations created by their close high school friend, David SanAngelo, has made bringing the story to life magical. David SanAngelo, Illustrator David SanAngelo is an award winning illustrator, and a two-time Emmy nominated director of animated shows for children and he won a kite flying contest in the fourth grade. Dave attended high school with Jessica and Stephanie, and they've all been friends for a billion years. Some of Dave's favorite things are: old monster movies, superheros and shred-a-licious rock music. Although he grew up in New England, Dave currently lives with his wife and sons in Decatur, GA.
