Her family name tainted by her great-grandfather’s crimes of piracy, Meriden Cummings is far from the typical 18th century woman. A social outcast, she works in a carpentry shop in a small village, where the people barely tolerate unconventional behavior.

However, her life takes a turn after a gang of pirates attack her village and her blood reveals an ancient map adorned w

This novel has had a long journey. It began during the summer of 2003, after seeing Pirates of the Caribbean for the first time in theaters and unintentionally ignored my high school crush at the ticket line--a truly embarrassing moment. But these events started to spark a storyline in my mind, which I became obsessed with. Becoming a haven for my thoughts and emotions.

Throughout high school, I studied maritime history of England and Americas and extended my knowledge of the world explorers from

Six Things to Know About Death Island
It's been so long, I don't even think I know how to write a review anymore. 😭

So instead of a full-fledged review as I would love to do... we're going to good old lists! (I do love lists, don't you?)

Mayan Mythology! - I don't know about everyone else reading this, but I love mythology. Since Egyptian, Roman, and

Holy crap.

This was absolutely an adventure.

I’d read this author’s previous work surrounding Egyptian mythology and I enjoyed it a lot. This book just raised the bar significantly.

When I read this authors previous books, I always felt as if something was missing. It wasn’t bad by any means, but it always felt as if it was just short of being absolutely amazing. I was extremely impressed when I picked up Death Island and

Death Island is a new adult fantasy by author Kelsey Ketch. Death Island is a pirate adventure that is filled with intrigue and mythology. I enjoyed this novel overall. It was a lot of fun. I love a quest style adventure. I love pirates and I love mythology, so those elements of the story were right up my alley. I believe Death Island is slated to be a standalone, but the ending did leave open the possibility for som

Review:

Protagonists: This story is told from two points of view. The first being Meriden, the daughter of a carpenter, and a girl with fire in her veins. She isn't one to be told what to do, and she'll turn and society the finger for trying to force her to someone she isn't. The second is Gregory, who upon meeting him is being held captive and tortured by pirates, which include his own brother. After said pirates attack Meriden's town, the two meet and go along on an epic

Death Island is an adventure tale set in the early 1700s, featuring pirates, a strong female character, and a quest for treasure overshadowed by an insidious curse.

I found the story itself to be rather interesting with plenty of action and well-developed characters. It was full of seagoing action, and the pace picked up when Meriden and her shipmates reached Death Island. There are some aspects of a ghost story, and I really dig how the mystery of the “gardener” as she calls him is played out. T

Kelsey Ketch has taken me away on another all new adventure. First she gives me stories steeped in Egyptian mythology with her Descendants of Isis series, and now she sweeps me off in a high seas adventure with Mayan mythology! Filled with romance, pirates, skeletons (the kind that kick your butt), siren(adaptation of) and gods.

Set in the early 1700s this story is a twp person POV by Meriden and Gregory. I actually really liked the balance of story we get this way. Meriden is a very independent

Have you ever read a book that, despite how long it feels as though you’ve been reading, you don’t seem to make much progress toward finishing it? Death Island is like that. It seemed like no matter how long I read, I only progressed one or two percentage points in the progress bar. I suppose I should have checked the length before I started reading, because this book is LONG. The length wouldn’t be a problem, but while there are certainly interesting sections to the story, they’re interspersed ...more

A pirate story that's a little bit different that's filled with adventure, romance and a curse. Meriden has never fit in to her village as she doesn't quite fit the mould, having great-grandfather who was a pirate doesn't help either. Her life changes cause when she finds a mysterious map after pirates attack her village. She wants to find the island marked on the map in her blood. Greg escapes the pirates the night on Merdien village. He joins the journey to the island to protect her. Can he sa ...more

This was a great book, I made a ton of comparisons to Pirates of the Caribbean, especially in the beginning, but it also was its own story, and I really enjoyed reading it!

All her life Meriden Cummings has wanted to sail the high seas and live the life of adventure and be free like father and great-grandfather before her. Well at least this is a dream of hers that she hopes to put in motion one day but in the mean time she will have to settle for a life working with her mother as a Carpenter in their shop on their little island.

After their island is attacked by pirates, Meriden and her mother have to fight off some pirates that come into their home. Meriden and h

“The breeze carried my hair off my shoulder, a shiver ran down my spine, and goose bumps unraveled across my arms when I sensed a presence nearby. I turned to spy a man as pale as ash with a beard as white as snow watching me. Black veins stretched throughout his exposed flesh. His eyes nothing but two black pieces of coal.” 0 likes
“• But these weren’t clouds. These were sails. Four beautiful white sails tied to the upper yardarms of a brigantine. I rushed to my window to get a better view of its golden honey stain and light blue trim. At the front, a figurehead of two wolves bounded toward the shore beside a half-naked, Greek huntress. Her bow by her side as she reached for an arrow from her quiver, further exposing her breast.” 0 likes
