Go Go Google

“...the Internet has turned what used to be a controlled, one–way message into a real–time dialogue with millions.”~ Danielle Sacks
You can’t always control what message others are getting about your book. Book reviews can both make and break sales. Even the information that you put out about your book is something that others can comment on and share opinions about. This is awesome for building relationships and networking, but it’s not always a good thing.
A Google search will turn up result...

Defensive Marketing

“To defend what you’ve written is a sign that you are alive.”~ William Zinsser, WD
I don’t know if you’ve ever gotten a bad review for your book, but they do happen. It can be tempting to want to respond to the review and defend yourself and your work – but that’s usually not a good idea. On the flip side, all of book marketing should be considered defending your book. Why is your book worth reading?
If someone said that your book wasn’t as valuable as another book in your niche, or the writin...

Persistence.

Day 36
“Doing well with blogging is not about writing one key post, it is about performing day after day and helping a few people at a time.”~ Aaron Wall
Persistence. It seems like there are several things we touch on over and over again. Networking and Persistence are two of the top ones. Blogging brings those two things together. You have to be persistent to get the most value at it, and it helps you to network with other people.  Blogging is something that you do day after day, year aft...

Passion

Day 35
“Money follows passion – not the other way around.”~ David Siteman Garland
Are you passionate about your book? If not – perhaps you shouldn’t have published it, but no matter. When you’re passionate about something, it’s easier to promote it. Think of all the professional sports gear that is sold every year. People don’t think twice about spending their hard earned money to promote their favorite team – because they are passionate about them.
If you’re passionate about your book, marketi...

Day 34

“We are all apprentices in a craft where no one ever becomes a master.”~ Ernest Hemingway
Hemingway was speaking of writing when he penned those words, but the same could be said of marketing if you think about it. Yes, there are master marketers – you might even be on the way to becoming one – but no one will ever know everything there is to know about marketing. It’s a world that continues to change – evolve.  Some of the best marketing tactics used today, didn’t even exist 5 years ago....

Real Networking

Day 33
“My #1 piece of marketing advice?  Network.  And, by network, I don’t mean friend 10,000 people on Facebook and spend all day on Twitter and LinkedIn, but really work hard to get to know people in a real way.”~ Erin MacPherson
Having 10.5 thousand twitter followers is something worth boasting about – but it’s not networking. Networking is about building relationships. Have you been working on building relationships with your following? Is there something more you can do to enga...

Attitude is Everything

Day 32“Sometimes we are limited more by attitude than by opportunities.”
I have to tell you a story about me and book marketing. I originally saw all marketing as evil. I had some bad experiences with door-to-door marketing when I was fresh out of school that left a bitter taste in my mouth. I saw marketing as trying to sell something to someone that they didn’t really need, and were spending too much money on – but that’s not what book marketing should be.
My attitude about marketing prevented...

The Power of Free

“Be knowledgeable in your niche, provide some information free of charge, and share other trustworthy peoples free resources whenever possible as well.”~Heather Hart
Never underestimate the power of free. Giving people valuable samples of your work for free is a great way to get readers. It’s kind of like including the first chapter of your next book in the back of your first one – that’s hooked me a few times. But it doesn’t just have to be fiction books or first chapters. Giveaway...
