Chasing Dreams

Day 59
“Success lies in the heart, and is activated by the hope that lies in the dream.”~ Doug Firebaug
Success comes from chasing dreams. If we really want something, we will make it happen. We recently moved into a new house. There are boxes everywhere, but I had a dream of completing this book before Christmas, so by golly the boxes can wait! Will I be successful? Absolutely.
You can do anything that you put your mind to – if you really want to. If you don’t really want to, well, that’s anot...

Keep Your Eyes Open

Day 58
“Keep your eyes open. Constant opportunities present themselves all over…~ Judy Cullins
What book marketing opportunities have you seen lately? I generally have to learn to limit myself as there are so many opportunities popping up every day. Someone might post in a forum about looking for guest bloggers for their blog. Someone else might be hosting a group promotion that I can enter a book in. Another author might be interviewing authors, and someone else might be tweeting about books....

Day 57

Day 57
“Energy and persistence conquer all things.”~ Benjamin Franklin
Energy isn't something that I come by naturally. I’m the mother of 4 small children who seem to have it in spades and mine is generally spent trying to keep up with them. So when it comes to book marketing, it tends to get whatever is left over. I don’t have the energy to host a webinar or speak at a conference – in fact, the last conference I went to it was a chore just to stay awake through. But I've found...

How Do You Feel About That?

Day 56
“You are the sum total of what people do and feel when interacting with your stuff.”~ Andy Sernovitz
People are emotional, and they spend their money on things that they feel they need or want. As a book marketer, it’s important to know how both your book, and your marketing makes people feel. This will help you know how to improve your marketing to gain more readers. Do you make people feel happy? Stupid? Confident? What are people thinking while they are reading your book? Is it, “I ca...

Piece of Cake

Day 55
“The only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary.~ Vidal Sassoon
Someone recently said to me that publishing their book was a cakewalk compared to getting it into the hands of readers. I guess there’s truth to that statement. Nobody starts out an expert book marketer. It comes with time, practice, and a lot of hard work. You aren't going to be a successful book marketer without putting in the work needed to get there.
Marketing prompt:
Go through the list of...

Earn It

Day 54
“The mistake so many marketers make is that they conjoin the urgency of making another sale with the timing to earn the right to make that sale. In other words, you must build trust before you need it. Building trust right when you want to make a sale is just too late.~ Seth Godin
You know those posts on twitter that say, “Buy my book: insert link here” I hate those. I’ve actually un-followed people on twitter for them (cold, I know). Nothing in that statement tells me why I should buy...

Day #53

“Don’t give up before you get off your feet. Put the time in to learn what you can, build relationships, and develop quality content.”~Heather Hart
Marketing is hard. The beginning stages are usually the worst as you don’t always have your feet firmly planted on the ground, but if you put in the time to learn. If you put in the time it takes to build relationships and develop your content, it gets easier. It’s kind of like the saying, practice makes perfect. You may never be pe...

Good, Old Fashioned, Hard Work

Day 52
“Opportunities are usually disguised by hard work, so most people don't recognize them.~Ann Landers
It seems odd to quote Ann Landers in relationship to book marketing, but I couldn't have said it better myself. Most book marketing opportunities require work on your part – hard work. Nothing just markets itself. Even if you are invited to be part of a group promotion that someone else is running, it still requires work on your part to help it succeed.

I can't tell you how many...

Promote Your Work

Day 51
“The future of branding is marketing with people, not at them”~ John Morgan
I love group promotions. Letting others be involved in our marketing is by far the best way to succeed. This can be by doing a group promotion with other authors – several of you getting together and having a book sale, or just by inviting your readers to help you promote your book and offering a reward (like an entry to win a free copy of your book). Let people know that you’re out to help them, not that you ju...

Spread The Word

Day 50“I've said it before, and by gosh, I'll say it again-don't be afraid to toot your own horn.”~ Emlyn Chand
If you don’t talk about your book, who will? For some of us it is ingrained deep inside of us that promoting ourselves is wrong. That’s why it’s important to see the value in your book. Instead of seeing promoting your work as boasting, look at it as letting others know about a fabulous book (that you just happened to have authored).

Today, I'm spreading the word about my n...
