Naturally

Day 119
“Success is the most natural thing in the world. The person who does not succeed has placed himself in opposition to the laws of the Universe.”~ Elbert Hubbard
God created people to work. If you ever read the Bible, you’ll see it written write in the first chapters of Genesis. God created the world, and then He created mankind to work it. It was His plan for us to work hard, but work successfully. If He didn't think we would be successful, He wouldn't have done it. I...

Dream AND Work

Day 118
“There are those who dream and wish and there are those who dream and work.~ June E. McIntyre
Are you wishing you were making more money from your books, or are you working towards making more money from your books? It’s amazing how one little word can really change the outcome.
Wishing is great, it’s how dreams are made. However, without work, dreams become fantasies – forever out of reach. Book marketing is a lot of work. It takes time and effort, but it moves us towards our dreams,...

The Key

Day 117
“Continuous effort – not strength or intelligence – is the key to unlocking your potential.~ Liane Carlos
I never would have believed that someone would speak out against today’s motto of the smartest and strongest rule, but Liane Carlos sure did with her quote. Strength and intelligence are important, but even if you have those, they are worth nothing if you don’t put in the effort. It goes back to the old tortoise and the hair race. Slow and steady wins the race.
Marketing prompt:
Don...

Why Marketing Is Important

Day 116
“It used to be that people needed products to survive.  Now products need people to survive.”~ Nicholas Johnson
With the mass amount of books and other products available on the market today, no one NEEDS our book to survive. However, if we want our books to survive, they need people to buy and read them. The marketplace has shifted on its axle.
That’s why book marketing is important. People need us to tell them why they should buy our book instead of Suzy’s. They need to know what...

Don't Be Cheesy

Day 115
“Don’t reduce yourself to a cheesy book hawker.”~ Rob Eagar
That quote by Rob Eagar always makes me think of this lady I follow on Twitter. She use to post the same exact thing every 5 minutes. It said: “Buy my book: linktobookhere”
That’s it.
That’s all it said.
Every 5 minutes.
It was beyond annoying. I even unfollowed her for a while. But she’s grown since then and has developed as a marketer so I'm following her again.
There are other types of things you want to...

It's Not Too Late

Day 114“It's never too late”~Origin Unknown
There are a few times in my life where I've looked back and wondered why I didn't do something different. Everyone loves learning that I went to college not for an English Major, but for a degree in Automotive Technology. That’s right, I’m a grease monkey – or I was for a while. For the past few years, I've considered going back to school to get that highly esteemed English Major, or maybe even a degree in marketing (my...

Losing Sight

Day 113
“Hold fast to dreams. For if dreams die. Life is a broken–winged bird. That cannot fly.”~ James Langston Hughes
Sometimes as authors we lose perspective. I do on occasion. It seems like instead of writing because I love it, I’m writing to reach a deadline. Instead of marketing to get my book into the hands of readers, I’m marketing to pay the bills. My dreams fall by the weigh side and I’m no longer living them. Life is no longer a dream come true, but it’s like I’m stuck on a hamster w...

Before You Answer...

Day 112
“To succeed, jump as quickly at opportunities as you do to conclusions.~ Benjamin Franklin
Do you jump at new opportunities? It seems live we've been taught to say no so much that sometimes we might tend to say it too much. Before you say no to something, check your calendar and see if you realistically have the time to complete it.
Marketing prompt:
Check your book marketing calendar for upcoming days that don’t have anything scheduled yet. Can you plan something to fill those...

Appreciation

Day 111
“Build relationships where your readers grow to know, like and trust you.”~Shelley Hitz
We already know that marketing is about building relationships, but the kind of relationships you build is important as well. I have relationships with some members on LinkedIn that don’t encourage me to know them anywhere else – and I certainly don’t like or trust them... You don’t want to be one of those people. I’m not talking about walking around on egg shells or doing everything in your power to...

Stop Interrupting

Day 110
“Instead of one–way interruption, Web marketing is about delivering useful content at just the precise moment that a buyer needs it.”~ David Meerman Scott
Internet marketing is extremely different than radio and T.V. advertising. It’s not about getting people to listen to you; it’s about meeting them where they are. That’s not something that you can do well 15 minutes a day once a week. In order to successfully meet people where they are, and present your book at just the right moment,...
