DC Women Kicking Ass: It's Barbara Gordon's Birthday: Con Sketches
Today is Barbara Gordon’s birthday and I promised that I would post some con sketches. I have a lot of sketches and commissions of Barbara. I love them all but my two favorites are probably Barbara as Oracle by Adam Hughes and Batgirl/Oracle by Cliff Chiang.
Here are three I haven’t…

What makes you say G. Peck was a racist? My understanding had always been that was fairly anti-racist, politically speaking.
I didn’t say G. Peck, I said J. Stewart. There’s a lot of talk that he was racist in the extreme, including a black actor who says Jimmy fired him from his show just because he was black, and a black actor in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance says Jimmy was racist towards him on the set, in his autobiography.
The other evidence is mostly anecdotal, I believe, and he has defenders. But it’s not in question that he was a regular informant to J. Edgar Hoover on leftists in Hollywood, or that he was a staunch right winger who was not a fan of progressive politics in any way.
He lived a very impressive life, did a lot of great stuff, and was my favorite actor for ages. But if what the black actors who worked with him said is true, he was also clearly a racist. And that’s inexcusable because even considering the times, many actors of the day, even his close friends like Henry Fonda, were strictly against racism. So it’s not as if EVERYONE felt as he did (allegedly, anyway).
EDIT: Said the wrong Henry…thanks for the correction. Meant FONDA not FORD.

Like what you see? You can own these prints and many more by visiting this site here.
These images were colored by comic colorist Moose Baumann. His wife recently recovered from breast cancer but not without incurring large medical bills. You can help his family out by purchasing your favorite comic heroes directly from Moose for just $20.
Rebecca and I bought three last year and Moose autographed each one of them for us. They’re totally epic!
Whether you plan on buying a print or not, please reblog this post so that it gets some exposure. Thanks in advance for helping one of our own!
Moose is a fabulous colorist, and I’ve seen these prints and they are absolutely stunning.
Please consider purchasing one of these at the link above. You’ll be glad you did, you’ll feel good, and you’ll have a gorgeous piece of art autographed by one of the greats.
A Question About Race
A serious question for a change, I think.
My question is, how do you feel about the way race and racism are addressed in your country? Happy to hear from Americans but am very curious to hear how people living in other countries feel about the current political and sociological aspects of their country regarding race.
Do you feel your country as a whole is doing well, fair, or atrociously, do you feel they are making headway, staying the same, or losing ground?
Not making any judgments on this end, just curious to hear since this topic rarely makes it to the American media in any serious way. Please remember to include the country you are talking about in your response, if you don’t mind!
Thank you!
Less of a question and more of a thank-you. Downloaded Madefire on your recommendation and it's freakin' awesome. Really interesting manipulation of the art form. So. Thank you!
I KNOW, right? I am such a motion comic skeptic, I have almost always hated it. I have no idea of the technical issues of what Madefire is doing, but it works. It enhances the stories in ways I find really exciting. But it also helps that they hired top-notch people to do the art and writing. Can’t wait to see what they come up with.

Greyhound, whippet, Italian greyhound
That is beautiful.
If you have never spent time with a rescued greyhound, you can’t imagine what sweet, loving dogs they are. They aren’t timid, they aren’t anxious, they are incredibly grateful to have a home and a family, and spend most of every day sleeping contentedly. They are happy every time they get a toy, or a bowl of food, or a petting. Each walk is a joy, each run is even more joyful.
Our greyhound is the happiest dog we’ve ever had, just a big, goofy ball of love.
