So I've been reading a crapton of WW lately and while I really enjoyed your Diana and Tresser, I was wondering...why did they never get the opportunity to get it on? Not being lewd, honest, I've just seen others mention that Diana's sexuality has never bee

Because I wanted her to experience a relationship where SHE was the one who messed up. Character is revealed through adversity, and some of my favorite stories of both classic and current literature are the doomed romances, the couples that are impossible for one reason or another.

And any human with a brain should have taken her up on that offer of a shower!

Which I think makes the whole thing more tragic. I think it revealed a depth of Tom’s character that he turned her down. We talked a lot about Tom being a professional liar as a spy and disguise artist. In the end, he had to face the truth…she didn’t love him. And that wasn’t enough.

There was no guidance from on high, just thought that that was the way that romance HAD to end, in sadness.

If I’d stayed on the book, she would have gotten some off someone eventually!

EDIT: I find the comment below about cliche to be pretty ridiculous, actually, and of course, it argues a point I didn’t make. Weird.

Gail, just wanted to say thank you for keeping anonymous access open. It gives those of us who don't want to sign up for tumblr a way to reach you. –Jack of Spades

Oh. See, I didn’t know that. Huh.

So if you don’t have a Tumblr, the only way to post a question is anonymously?

Hmm. That does change things a little.

Hey Gail! Just wondering about something. With was more fun for you to write about: The Birds of Prey or Secret Six?

Hmmm.

I loved writing both. I might say that Birds of Prey was more rewarding in some ways, because it was my first long-term ongoing and NO ONE thought it could be a hit book. It was scheduled for cancellation when I took it over and the tpbs STILL sell incredibly well years later.

No one thought a girl team book could maintain an audience. They had SO MUCH advice for ways to make it palatable to guys…we did none of that and made it a hit.  Female team, female writer, and we had five straight years of high sales, reader acclaim and critical success.

I am really, really proud of that.

Secret Six was just fun…the ferocity of Six readers is still extremely humbling.

Dang, I miss them both.

Racist white man attacks and spits on a defenseless African American female contractor for recording him going off on a tirade belittling her and the other employees…no male employees interviewed *chin rub* wonder why..was it his white male privilege???

Watch the whole clip.

Smh I bet no-one will reblog this… people not caring about black women is why homeboy thought he could get away with this shit…

SMH, this is why I need RADICAL FEMINISM so shit like this NEVER happens.

He needs his fucking teeth kicked in and needs to choke on them and needs his skull cracked opened and eyes removed with a power drill

Just wondering when the Tumblr Crackahood is gonna defend dude.

This makes me so sick. That man tried to assault her and he spit on her. And not a one of those other men tried to help that girl. This makes me scared as a black woman to live in the world in which I live. Seriously.

I am not surprised in the slightest that nobody came to her defense. She’s a Black woman after all. The people around her thought that she could handle herself and didn’t need any protection that’s that strong black woman stereotype

*sips invisible coffee*

I wanna point out one more thing. Near the end of the video, they make a really good point. Once that white man realized he was being filmed, that’s when he lost it. He saw her recording him, and he made a beeline for her ass. Why? Because he knew that had she not filmed this, not a soul would’ve believed her. White folks would’ve came out of the woodwork talking about how she was “playing the race card” and just doing this for “attention.”

Don’t worry.  They still will.  ”Well, we don’t know what happened BEFORE she started recording.  I mean, he didn’t get that riled up over NOTHING.”

Well, that’s a revolting thing to wake up to, holy crap.

This poor woman, good lord.

Given the success you and Jim Calafiore have seen with Leaving Megalopolis, are you at all tempted to continue your plot ideas for Secret Six, Birds of Prey, et al, with original characters? Iron Owl, as a Huntress cipher, for example.

Well, as much as I miss writing Birds of Prey, I don’t see myself writing that book again, and I usually don’t carry over story ideas from one book to another.

So, probably not, I don’t think!

Just dropping in to say I 100% support what you said. I'm someone very positively affected by the New 52. Because of it, I've been a Batfan for years but now I get to jump right into comics, and share it with my own best friend, something I've wanted to do

That’s a cool thing to hear!

I am not arguing at all with those who say they have felt alienated, I believe them, I don’t think they’re just griping for the sake of griping or anything like that. I believe them.

But I’ve been at cons all year and have been hearing stories like yours just endlessly. I stress again, I was a skeptic. Because I jumped into comics in the middle of a big crossover story with a very convoluted backstory, I thought that that wasn’t a deterrent to most, but I guess that it was, in retrospect, for many.

Glad you’re aboard, thanks!
