Joe Hill's Thrills: Why Hello There.
With the usual joehillfiction.com site down for almost two weeks, I decided I’d give tumblr a whirl. Have heard rumors it’s easy and fun. We will see.
Not sure what I’ll do with my tumblr yet, but am leaning toward a blog of lists. For example, here are five things about me:
1) I am the…
Also, Nos482 is amazing.

Inspired by this post. I also find it amusing that in the movie, Meg calls Herc ‘Wonder Boy’.
More art.
EDIT: Babs is being attacked by Poison Ivy, by the way.
LOL This is actually clever
That’s adorable and cool.

Whoa, you guys. Whoa. I know I’m a couple days behind, but whoa. I think my favorite part was that panel with Babs’ mom. You know the one. I think I’ll be glad I’ve opted to check out all of the tie-ins for Death of the Family.
This story has some dark stuff, fair warning. Scott Snyder is unleashed here.
OUCH.
Whew
Since I fixed the ‘Ask’ button on my page (with help), I’ve been getting way more asks than I can answer and I worry about slamming people’s dashes with short answers.
So, I think what I’ll try is just putting a bunch of asks in one post, see how it works. Sorry for so many posts in such a short span this morning.
Have to work. Have a great weekend.
Hi Gail, I'm a huge Grimjack fan and I was wondering if you know how John Ostrander is doing?
I haven’t spoken with John in a bit, we’ve both been busy. But! I see him on Facebook sometimes, and I believe he still writes things for COMICSMIX.Com. Also, his Star Wars comics are excellent, SO much better than the prequels!
I want to apologize, for photoshoping that panel which seems to have started a lot of people yelling at you. It was a joke based on a very slight resemblance, and I thought most people would see the "trolling" tag and realize it was fake. I'm really sorry
See?
This is why I didn’t want to just go overboard. It would be easy to assume someone did this to be mean and to upset people.
But here it turns out, it’s a nice person, did it as a gag, steps up and takes total responsibility…well, I must say, I haven’t met you, but I am completely impressed and you have nothing to apologize for whatsoever.
Honestly, this note made my day, and I hope this won’t stop you from continuing to use your obvious ‘shopping skills for jokes and snark…we all get too serious at times.
Not a bit of harm done, and no apologies necessary! Thanks so much.
Wait...why are so many people mad at you? I see something about a photoshopped panel? Am I missing something? From what I understand you've tried to bring back Steph more than anyone, so I don't get why everyone's throwing a fit over it. All the same, keep
I don’t want to paint everyone with the same brush, here.
Some people saw the photoshopped panel, and were upset, I DO NOT BLAME THEM. It’s convincing, it looks real. It might have just been a gag or a bit of snark, no big deal.
But I think others were genuinely upset about the actual coloring and appearance of the character, particularly with her mask off.
I don’t think most people were throwing a fit, they seemed mostly pretty civil to me. And my understanding is that some of them have gotten some harsh response in return. The whole thing makes me sad, there’s no reason to make a respectful disagreement escalate to where people on either side get their feelings hurt like that, we’re all fans of the character. And Steph fans have been kicked around a LOT, I don’t blame them for being on edge a little.
We’re gonna adjust a bit, visual confusion is something you want to avoid in comics. I remember that a couple artists had a very hard time drawing Lady Blackhawk and Black Canary differently enough that you could instantly recognize them. This is stuff that has to be taken into consideration and I don’t mind making adjustments at all.
Thanks for the kind thought, but it’s okay!
Uh, how do you the person who inspired Spy Smasher was a woman?
I want to make sure I understand the question…do you mean, do I know the person I saw was a cis woman?
No, I don’t, and it was only a two second glance, to be honest.
Or are you asking about the origin of the Golden Age (male) Spy Smasher?
Do you have any tips for designing a female superhero's costume? It's so easy to fall into that cutouts, painted on fabric, and stilettos trap rather than design a unique, badass costume that doesn't reduce its wearer to an object.
I think you have kind of answered your own question here.
:)
I am not against costumes that show skin, I’m not against ‘sexy’ costumes, IF IT MAKES SENSE FOR THE CHARACTER.
I meet powerful women every week who dress the way they do not for the male gaze, but for themselves. That’s the difference for me between say, Power Girl, and some of the ‘bad girl’ nonsense characters of the 90’s. Power Girl dresses the way she does because she likes it, and anyone who doesn’t can go straight to hell, in her opinion. That makes sense for her character.
When you have Sue Storm dressing like that, it looks goofy and it feels wrong, it doesn’t fit her established character.
It’s really a matter of character.
