Regarding that Huntress post, do you have a specific set of voice actors in your mind when reading/writing books? Does it influence how you write? I'll never be able to read a Batman book without hearing Kevin Conroy. But I have to figure there's a whole b

I usually do not. I know this sounds awful and pretentious but the truth is, I simply don’t keep up with pop culture very much. I don’t know who is popular at anything. I look at our scandal sheets and have no clue who anybody is. I’m terrible at names for a start, and have almost no interest in celebrity culture so I don’t remember what actors are in what films.

A fellow DC writer was making fun of me a couple weeks ago because he mentioned meeting some very famous actress and I had no idea who he was talking about…he was certain I was lying, but I don’t watch tv, I don’t keep up on movie or entertainment sites, I just have no idea what’s going on. I might as well be a hermit.

On top of all that, when I watch an animated show and I really like it, I almost don’t WANT to know who voiced what…it’s fun for me to just keep the illusion that the characters are voiced by themselves. :)

How embarrassing is this series of confessions on my part?

VERY.

I know who Kevin is because he’s a legend, I know who Christian Bale is but never liked his Bat-voice, and I know who Diedrich is because I’ve met him a couple times, but I wouldn’t be able to remember his name if you hadn’t just reminded me.

It’s not something I’m proud of or glib about, in my business, I SHOULD know at least the baseline minimum on this stuff…but I really don’t.

Sorry!

Helena Bertinelli/Huntress in Justice League: Unlimited

The actress playing Huntress on this show was so perfect that whenever I wrote Huntress dialogue from then on, I heard it in her voice. Youthful, but hard as diamonds. Loved it.

I met her at a con, and she was signing photos, and I told her I’d written her episode of JLU and that I loved what she did with it. She came up, gave me a big hug, signed one of her photos and said that we were ‘family,’ and that she wished ALL her scripts were that well written.

You hear how terrible people in Hollywood all the time, but many of the kindest, most generous and sincere people I have ever known work in the film industry in some way.

The new colour cover to the Dead Queen Detectives Omnibus.

it needs a bit of tidying up in terms of the colour balance and the title needs to be replaced with a full black version, but hopefully this should be pretty much what the second print run will look like at Thoughtbubble in Leeds next month. It’ll also now include the full profile pages for the Dead Disputed Queens, some new pin-ups by some awesome artists, re-scanned and tidied up art from both issues of the Dead Queen Detectives, extra sketches and ephemera (some not included in the original Omnibus) and maybe a short Thoughtbubble exclusive story that will be the first adventure for the Dead Disputed Queens. All this for a mere £5. That’s like a proper bargain that is.

I absolutely adore this series!

What Is This I Don't Even: If we wanna talk about bad allies:

I once witnessed a straight girl go absolutely ballistic when she was denied access to Gay Prom, with her justification being that she’d gone with her male Gay Best Friend™ (who, by the by, was not even present at this gay prom, so it’s not even that she was a guest of a gay person, just…

This is exactly why I am skeptical of the concept of allies almost automatically. It so often seems to be about THEM, everything ends up being about THEM, and not the people they are supposed to be allied WITH.

I know not everyone is like that, but it sure comes up a lot.

Well, sure — there are a lot of assholes in this world.  Should those of us who support the varied and various QUILTBAG communities pick a different world to describe ourselves, then?

I am not in any position to suggest how people label themselves and I am as guilty of this as anyone else, but even this question seems to be about US and how we are perceived, which kind of seems like a non-problem to me. It seems to take away oxygen from actual marginalized people and focuses it elsewhere.

Don’t mind me, I’m just grumbling.
