Hi Gail, love what you're doing on Batgirl, didn't think i'd like it when I first heard they were putting Babs back in the suit and putting Steph on the bench but I absolutely love it and look forward to it every month. Just wanted to ask if there's any ch

I really appreciate it, but I have to say again, I did not put Stephanie on the bench. Her book was already going to be either canceled or the writer replaced long before the New52, sadly.

And I guarantee you no one fought harder than me to get Steph back. I failed, but I tried for a solid year to make it happen.

As for DC characters, hard to say at the moment… ;)

But I love the Marvel family and I have never really written a Batman story.

So I have a question. Would it be weird for a white girl to cosplay as America Chavez (new member of the Young Avengers)?

I am neither POC nor a cosplayer, it’s probably better to ask people with more authority on this subject.

But my understanding of the community is that if you don’t resort to cultural appropriation or things like blackface or stereotype “humor,” most everyone seems to be okay with that.

A little respect goes a long way.

Trans Characters In Mainstream Media

I’m curious about this, and I hope to hear from the trans community.

This isn’t for anything I’m working on, I’m just curious about some stuff.

I just watched an episode of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, a show I have only seen a few scattered episodes of in the past, but I have enjoyed what I’ve seen.

They’re on Netflix now, I was watching the episodes, and enjoying them, and then there was an episode where one of the main characters falls in love with a trans mtf character.

Now, in SOME ways, it seemed almost enlightened, in that the trans character is never shown to apologize, she’s pretty clearly wonderful and all that, and the main character is clearly smitten with her. But other stuff seemed to just reinforce hurtful stereotypes and mythology. And of course, by the end of the  episode, the love affair is completely over and the trans character is gone.

It got me thinking. What trans portrayals in mainstream media have you personally found encouraging, or positive, or funny, or  heartfelt?  When you talk about good portrayals in mainstream, not niche media, what is it that you point to?

Thank you in advance, would love to hear your thoughts.

Ragdoll, you are clearly only cosplaying Robin and Wonder Woman as an excuse to get attention from men. You aren’t even in the fandom; why would you be? You’re a fucking supervillain. Stop being such a Fake Geek Girl/Boy!

He is totally con-hot.

Since you posted the question about Kate Kane right after reblogging a picture of a Batwoman cosplayer, it reminds me of what I HATE about cosplaying. I go as an asian character often, I'm not asian and I'm very insecure about it because to many people I w

I’m not sure I understand.

First, I have seen time and again that the cosplay community as a whole is absolutely fine with people playing characters outside of their own race, as long as nothing awful like blackface or brownface is involved. I don’t think that disqualifies you from being the best at anything.

Second, it’s purely subjective. I mentioned those particular cosplayers to make the point that cosplay runs from very, very close to the exact physical match of the character to much more casual and inexpensive cosplay. I was quite adamant that I love both and everything in between.

I’m honestly maybe missing your point. Did you think I was sidelining cosplayers who were not close physical matches?

I assure you, nothing could be further from how I feel. I love pretty much all cosplayers and I think I’ve been pretty clear about that.

I Don't Normally Do This

…but Comixology is having a sale on all-ages digital comics, most are only 99 cents this weekend only.

I prefer my comics in hard copy. I prefer to support comics shops.

But not everyone can get to a shop, and some might want digital copies just for their families or for travel or whatever.

Honest to gosh, some of the best comics being publisher are on sale there right now.

POPEYE by Roger Landridge is an absolute gem. PEANUTS. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Spidey Adventures. Batman Animated. Young Justice, Jonny Boo, Kevin Keller, Bone, Archie, Sonic, Transformers, Owly, many, many more. Not ALL are 99 cents but the vast majority are.

If you ever wanted some great digital books everyone can love, wow, this is a good deal. I just bought a TON myself.

My HIGHEST POSSIBLE RECOMMENDATIONS go to BONE, OWLY, KORGI, and POPEYE.  With one thing on there that you simply HAVE to get if you love great comics.

There are four 48 page OZ graphic novels by the brilliant Eric Shanower. They, too, are just 99 cents this weekend. I can’t tell you how good these books are, they are magnificent.

I make no money off these, obviously, I have no connection to Comixology.

But for ten bucks you could have a big stack of OUTSTANDING reading material for the weekend. :)

Just passing it along!
