Any character you hate that everyone else seems to love?
Iron Man. It kills me because he’s had such great creators, and I really like the movies. But he just leaves me cold for some reason. Can’t explain it.
I used to dislike J’onn, but I have totally changed my tune on him.
Hey Gail, are there any webcomics that you're aware of (and possibly follow)? Have you ever heard of Rice Boy, Girl Genius, Lackadaisy, MS Paint Adventures, and the like?
I have read Girl Genius and I am pretty sure I looked at Lackadaisy…the rest are new to me. Good?
So you're just ignoring people who offer you support?
What? NO!
Guys, I don’t know what to say, I have been absolutely gobsmacked, I had NO IDEA there would be this groundswell of support and kindness.
I will definitely to my best to address everyone’s kind words. I’ve been running without sleep for several days, I’ve had hundreds of emails, hundreds of Tumblr and Twitter and FB dms, dozens of phone calls and literally THOUSANDS of Twitter and Tumbler posts.
It’s gonna take some time.
But seriously, I would have been an absolute mess without all the support. It’s literally impossible to be bummed when you are faced with this kind of wave!
I thank you and thank EVERYONE who said a kind word.
More soon and hopefully some news!
Portland POC Housing CO-OP
Help some queers of color start a housing co-op! Follow the link to find out who they are.
We are a collective of queer people of color coming together to create an intentional home that nourishes ourselves and our community.
Because we are marginalized in our POC communities as queers.
Because we are marginalized in our queer communities as brown.
Because out daily lives are acts of resistance.
We must create a space to escape the daily violence we encounter living in the margins. We need a home to create power in a place none is given, a reprieve where we can be ourselves without fear, without the threat of violence, and the promise of bigotry and agression. We can not only do this beside each other, and with each other, but for each other. The way that this city is socially designed is to not only perpetuate the oppression of the color of people that live here but to prevent us from creating community spaces where we can gather, organize, and participate in each other’s empowerment. We are dedicated to creating a space to remember and rebuild, heal and share resources, connect and inspire deeper relationships in our QPOC community. A space to allow healing from internalized colonization, generational and psychic trauma that exists within our communities. We hope this work, fighting for liberation on all fronts, will be honored and supported by our allies. This space will be home, and offer:
A space for community meals, caucus, and decompression.
A lending library from and for Portland QPOC.
Healing/wellness space with resident reiki therapists.
And hopefully so much more with time and work.
In Solidarity,
The Portland QPOC CO-OP
Hopefully the first of many.

“I don’t think...

“I don’t think DC realises just how lucky they were to have Greg Rucka.”
In honor of his birthday today. Go follow him!
One of the best writers to ever work for DC comics
And Gotham Central, along with his Batwoman run in Detective Comics, are two of my favourite comics from either DC OR from Marvel of all time
We need more writers like Rucka
It’s not just DC. NO ONE realizes how lucky they are to have Greg Rucka.

A gift for Gail.
Gail no longer being involved on...

A gift for Gail.
Gail no longer being involved on any book featuring any of the original Birds of Prey is the end of an era (or at least a decade.) To many of us Gail was Barbara Gordon, she encapsulated the character so well and really ‘got’ what Babs was about. In Birds of Prey, Gail cultivated some of the most moving friendships I’ve ever read in comics. Not having her involved in the stories of any of these ladies is saddening, but we can only hope for the best in the future. For Gail, and for the Birds and Barbara Gordon.
Gail has been inspiration to me over the years, I always wanted to one day end up drawing an issue of her Birds of Prey. …and it nearly happened.
Years ago Gail got me my first comic pencilling gig - it was an unpaid job for indy anthology ‘The Gathering‘ illustrating one of her short stories. For someone who was still a noob to comic art I was blown away. The fact that one of my favourite comic authors of all time entrusted me to illustrate one of her scripts was astonishing and daunting. There are people who have been working in the industry for years that have not had the honor of working with a comic great Gail Simone.
Gail gave me so much advice and helpful critiques while I was working on the script, I was so lucky and she was so supportive. She really went above and beyond to nurture my work and push me to my limits.
After the book had come out Gail was looking to get me more work, and a foot in at DC. Gail had original planned to have me draw a Birds of Prey book by illustrating one of the stories to be featured in a Birds of Prey annual that would occur a ways down the road; I was to draw a story featuring Misfit.
Then the reboot happened, creative teams were swapped around, books were scrapped and any plans that were being made pre-reboot went out of the window and the mad scramble was on to make new books.
So my foot in the door at DC didn’t happen back then which is a shame, but Gail has always gone above and beyond to show my work around and support me. If I ever mention to her that I’ve sent a portfolio in to a certain publisher or to an author she’ll always be the first to email the person looking at my work and put in a good word for me.
Gail Simone is and always will be one of my favourite authors, best friends, a driving force behind my career and an inspiration to all of my future endevours and of course - Barbara Gordon.
Cassandra, you are too kind. I only did all that stuff because you are a kickass artist and it was absolutely MY honor to work with YOU..
And thank you for this wonderful gift, it’s how I feel right now after all this wild support from everyone!

I...

I don’t like the sound of this
Oh, yikes.
She’s releasing a full statement tomorrow, and I’m holding off judgement until then, but I’m not hopeful.
So.
I know nothing about what’s going on here. NOTHING. I am outside. I know Gail well enough to call her a friend, but it’s a loosely-defined friendship, grown from working in the same wheelhouse for many years, and out of admiration for not only her writing, but also her social conscience and her fearlessness. All three are worthy of praise, but honestly, it’s that last that has always, consistently, impressed me the most. I work to be fearless - capital “A” Art demands that kind of courage - and Gail puts me to shame.
Wherever she goes next, whoever Gail works with next, they’re going to be lucky to have her.
Greg, you remain my hero. Thank you.

My daughter Anya loves comics and...

Anya as The Huntress

Our photo shoot at the old ice plant.

Probably a secret Mr. Freeze base.

Stella as Power Girl
My daughter Anya loves comics and really wanted to be The Huntress for Halloween. Since we couldn’t make a costume for her and leave her sister out, we decided to recreate the current “World’s Finest” team.
It was their (and my) first attempt at cosplaying anything, but I think it worked out pretty well. If the girls are still interested, we will do it again next year — but it has to be their idea. I don’t want to turn into the nerd version of a “Toddlers and Tiaras” parent.
Absolutely perfect.
Are these kids TRYING to kill us with cuteness?
It's A Weird Thing
I was bummed, but I didn’t, you know, cry or anything when I got the Batgirl news.
Strangely, today, I’ve been near tears several times from kind and moving things people have said. Pretty soon things will be back to normal, I promise but the kind support has made me a bit of an emotional lump today. ;)
I just saw this article at examiner.com. I hope you read it. It again talks about the importance of so MANY things I believe in; visibility, sensitivity, and the power of stories.
It’s from a writer reviewing Batgirl sorta, with an important perspective that made me catch my breath. Very much worth reading and commenting on.
