About The Red Hood Thing
Scott Lobdell did not write that dialogue. It was written by the guy who did the dialogue for that issue, Josh Williamson, who is very well regarded for his independent work. I’ve met him, he seems like a very decent guy.
He says that when his wife divorced him, she said those words to him, and they stuck with him and he put them in the comic. He was completely unaware that they came from a book at all.
A sad situation. Makes me feel sad to hear it.
That’s all I know about it.
Hey Miss Simone, I was wondering: how do you feel about Power Girl as a character? Do you have a particular run on her that you think is especially good?
I love Power Girl!
I was a big fan of the Palmiotti/Grey/Conner run of her title.
Your answer to that last question made it sound sort of like it's typical for plot and dialogue to be done by different people. So I have two questions: is that true, and if yes, is it often true even when there's only one credited writer?
It’s not common anymore, not in the actual split of one writer plotting and another doing the dialogue, but it still happens.
To do a comic ‘Marvel style’ is a different thing…the writer plots the book, the artist draws it, and the writer placed dialogue and captions over the art.
That’s still fairly common. Having two writers split the duties into plotting and dialogue is less common, usually happens to get caught up on the schedule a little bit.
I am not familiar with it happening with one credited writer, but I suppose it’s possible.

I can’t say how much I love this. How, as an insecure woman and awkward women, encouraging it was to see Barbara Gordon - one of the strongest women in all of comics - telling all of those secret hurts and shames and struggles that every girl, in one way or another, can relate to.
(From Birds of Prey 84)
I am going to reveal something weird, I normally don’t get nervous writing scenes, but in this case, I was completely terrified. It took ages to get it exactly how I wanted, I asked my writer friends about it (which I never do), and I was actually shaking writing it at spots.
It seemed so oddly personal and even invasive of the characters, it was such a little raw nerve. Barbara’s “sins” are pretty minor, but that’s part of why it was so powerful to me to write them, because she would be embarrassed and ashamed of these minor transgressions. So many of us are much harder on ourselves than on others, and Barbara most of all.
Her opening up like that to Helena, who is furious at her already, it felt incredibly vulnerable.
Some scenes fall like water off a waterfall, others are like walking on razor wire barefoot. It sounds silly to say that about this quiet scene in a superhero comic, but if you are truly invested in the work, you can get emotional over a soda commercial, sometimes.
It makes me uncomfortable to read even now, which is as it should be, I think.

WHY THANK YOU. I am really stoked for more Bold Riley adventures — especially Joannaestep’s contribution. :D
Don’t nobody be shy about reblogging anything Bold Riley related. Spread the freewheeling, adventuring love!
I really love Bold Riley. People should get the first volume and this one too, when it comes out!
Hey, Gail, I don't know if that helps out or not but people may want to address Josh Williamson who wrote the script in that issue of RHatO that people are referring to. It can be kind of confusing as I think most people assume it was Lobdell who just wrot
I am not involved in this book, I haven’t even read it, so I don’t know any details.
But if Scott did the plotting, that would make it very unlikely that he would write the dialogue, that’s just normally not how the procedure works.
I don’t have any more information about this than you guys do.
Supanova Gold Coast!
Who all is gonna be there? Come say hello, it’s my last weekend in Australia!
