Hi! I’m stoked to present my thesis comic, If This Be Sin, based on the life of Gladys Bentley. It’s for sale on Gumroad! You can download the 16 page full-color PDF for $2.
Gladys Bentley, was a blues singer, piano player, and drag king who performed bawdy tunes in Harlem nightclubs throughout the 1920s and ’30s. Despite the social obstacles she faced as a black, openly queer woman, her outrageous and energetic act became a mainstay of the Harlem cabaret. In 1952, under the oppressive social conditions of the McCarthy era, Bentley publicly renounced her previous identity and claimed to have found happiness as a feminine housewife.
Gumroad is super simple to use, you just have to enter your credit card number and you’ll be sent a direct download, plus Gumroad will email you a link to re-download it if you ever lose track of the file.
FOR EVERY 100 NOTES, I’LL GIVE AWAY A DIGITAL COMIC TO A RANDOM TUMBLR USER so please share if you can! (Within each 100 notes, only people who reblog are eligible for a free copy.)
Thank you and I hope you enjoy the comic!
This looks amazing!
Oh sorry, the original book is Naomi and Ely's No Kiss List, the graphic novel is Red Hood and the Outlaws, somewhere close to the beginning when it's just Jason and Kori on the beach. The quote is " It's bullshit to think of friendship and romance as bein
Hmm.
Well, I don’t know the circumstances, it could be an homage or the editorial note could have accidentally been dropped, such things have been known to happen. I also have had what we call ‘placeholder dialogue’ get left in many times when a revision is left off the corrections.
Don’t know, but it sounds odd. Has anyone explained the similarity yet? I don’t know the circumstances.
would it be wrong to ask what color pyjamas Alex was wearing?
Silver!

Catman by Steve Howard
WOW. That’s...
Hey Gail, I was reading a DC new 52 graphic novel and there is a few lines in it that are stolen, word for word, from a lesser known young adult novel from 2007. I understand that these things go unnoticed a lot, but if a writer is found to be plagiarizing
Hmm. Well, respectfully, as you don’t produce the examples or evidence, and as you are posting this anonymously, I’m pretty skeptical. What is the book and what are the lines that are stolen?

Speaking of Anna, Julie McNiven and Gail Simone were tweeting to each other the other day after meeting at a convention and squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
Julie is very sweet and down to Earth, and we both agree she’d make an excellent Batgirl. :)
Hey Gail, I was just a bit(in the deepest depths of the ocean of the void of darkness where no light will ever be able to shine) confused. And you're the first person from DC I Knew on tumblr. Do you know whether Zatanna's permanently on Justice League or
I have no idea. Sorry.
If given the opportunity, what series from the Milestone Media catalog would you like to write? I feel you may be one of the few people at DC smart enough to write an "Icon" or "Hardware" comic.
Oh, it’d be Icon, for sure, I love the cast of that book. I am not usually a huge techie character fan, so Hardware was one of the Milestone books that I didn’t pick up.
Dwayne McDuffie really wanted me to write Static, he brought it up to me many times. But it just seemed weird to me to potentially write that book when the character’s creator (and my hero) was alive and would clearly do a million times better job than I ever could.
Thinking back, I still feel that, but at the same time, i feel bad that I didn’t at least try it simply BECAUSE Dwayne asked me to do it.
bleah. I miss Milestone and I miss Dwayne.
Hey Gail! I was just wondering if you had any involvement with / opinions on the new DC fighting game, Injustice. I've been playing it a lot and the writing is top notch, I'd love to hear your thoughts!
I got to see some advanced previews of it at a DC conference, just some of the characters fighting. It looked pretty exciting to me, but I’m just a ridiculous fan of superhero fighting games. I love ‘em.
I am aware there is some controversy in the storyline but I haven’t been keeping up so I’m not INFORMED. Something about Lois being killed for the billionth time?
I will buy it, but I wish they hadn’t gone with that plot point, if indeed they have. Like I say, I’m not informed.
Wait. So if the people Barbara loves call her Babs, does that mean if you call her Babs, she loves you?
It means that when you call her Babs, she actually responds. ;)
