What did babs and dinah do to pass time in the clocktower in birds of prey? Have any rousing games of scrabble?

Scrabble?

Someone’s going to write that someday and win the internet.

We Are Home

And I missed my son and our doggies so, so much.

But holy CRAP did we love Mexico City.

La Mole Comic Con has been inviting me for some time, and it never worked out. And every time I mentioned it, I would get all these private emails saying not to go…people said it was too dangerous, it was too polluted, all these awful things. And we have never been to Mexico.

Jesus, I know all this stuff is complicated, but good god, I am so mad I paid any attention at all. We had the BEST TIME. The weather was beautiful, the city is gorgeous and vibrant and alive, the food was amazing, the con treated us wonderfully, and the people were great EVERYWHERE WE WENT.

I am sure there are dangerous parts of the city, like every city. Hell, we live in the teensiest little Mayberry town anywhere and our house was still robbed just a couple months ago. But we walked by ourselves all over the place and never met anyone who was anything less than really kind and lovely.

The neighborhoods were beautiful, even the ones that seemed to be older, every building had some personality and there was art everywhere. It was a real culture shock to come home to all the grey blocky buildings around here.

We saw the pyramids and the anthropological museum, and the Templo Mayor, it was all amazing. And the food was ridiculous, even the hotel breakfast had lovely Mexican dishes, different ones every day.

But above all was the people.  Everyone everywhere was lovely to us, could not have been friendlier or more welcoming. But the people at the CON were another level entirely, just these wonderful, generous, kind people. I get very misty thinking about it.

People brought piles of gifts; art, comics, books, candy, trinkets, homemade crafted things…a sculptor did a clay bust of me while waiting in my signing line, another crafter brought two beautiful wooden boxes, hand painted with Batgirl and Huntress. Three adorable guys came all the way from Peru to bring me a bottle of Pisco, and couldn’t have been sweeter.

Our intertpreter, Adrian, and our security guy, Uriel, became like family. I miss them both terribly. The con organizers, Elias and Vero, became like lifelong friends in a day.

And I have never had so many GUYS come to my line to tell me that they were inspired by my work. I choked up several times.

The cosplayers were world-class, one guy was the Hulkbuster Iron Man and he was genuinely terrifying.

And the entire con was like that, festive and fun and friendly, not pushy and aggressive as even the best cons can sometimes be.

We barely scratched the surface of the city, let alone the country. I am sure the people warning me meant well, but holy crap, we had the best time ever and cannot WAIT to go back.

Thank you, La Mole Comic Con!  And a HUGE thank you to everyone who came to say hello!

theimancameron:The first three pages of Dynamite’s Swords of...

theimancameron:

The first three pages of Dynamite’s Swords of Sorrow #1, by gailsimone & Sergio Davila, yeah, I’m gonna love this comic SO SO SO SOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH! :)

Swords of Sorrow,  I swear to god, I am having so much fun.

Yes, there are weird bikinis (heh), especially in the first issue, but there are also kickass female characters from radio, comic strips, comic books, black and white magazines, literary novels and pulps, just a ridiculous fun line-up.

AND there’s writers like G. Willow Wilson, Marguerite Bennett, Erica Schultz, Nancy Collins, Emma Beeby, Mikki Kendall, Mairghread Scott, and Leah Moore…

AND phenomenal covers, mostly by female artists like Joyce Chin and Tula Lotay and Jenny Frison.

LOVELY art by Sergio Davila, and some big, big surprises at the end.

AND I got to write this naughty sea chanty.
:)

Red Sonja, why are you so bawdy?

"Fruit snacks?"

I couldn't decide what picture I liked better.

The funny thing is that I was already planning to go as Vengeance Moth before I knew he was coming

Pics of my latest cosplay: Vengeance Moth from The Movement. And as it just so happened Freddie Williams II, who was the artist for the series, was also at the con so I had to stop by and offer him a fruit roll up fruit snack.

So cute!
