With your question about Tumblr Fandom, I'm reminded of that jerk who said cosplayers aren't "really fans" but only like the costumes. 1. that's not true - plenty of cosplayers read the comics/watch the show/play the game but 2. if they like the costumes m
That’s what I think, too. I think it’s deliberately diminishing.
HOWEVER, I am trying to figure out WHY it’s diminishing? Why should anyone care how another fan shows their affection for characters or a story?
I don’t get it. If someone loves a character mainly for t-shirts, so what? Who am I to judge?

Batgirl. Babs. STOP. Batman and I were worried, yes. Not because we doubt you.
It’s because we love you.

Well, I do NOW!
“Tumblr Fandom”
I had a discussion at ECCC with someone in comics, I’m not going to mention who, about how busy the convention was, and they said that some of the attendees were probably just “Tumblr fans.”
I asked what she meant, and she said that she felt there was a growing group of fans who love the characters and love MOMENTS of stories, but don’t read the actual comics ever. She said that they will buy a CHARACTER X t-shirt in a heartbeat, but don’t own any graphic novels. They will reblog a scene they like from a comic, but never go to an actual comics shop to get that same book.
Now, at first this seemed reactionary and diminishing, but I am curious about this notion. IS there such a thing as “Tumblr fandom,” in this sense? A lot of the people yelling on both sides of that Joker/Batgirl cover had clearly not read a comic book in years (I am not saying that to be mean, but it was pretty obvious to even a casual follower of the controversy). And I don’t think it’s a slam at Tumblr, either, I think there are a lot of Batman and Arrow and Avengers fans who also don’t read the comics but don’t have Tumblr accounts.
I’m just curious about the phenomenon. I am not someone who judges people for HOW they like these stories and characters. If you like ARROW or AGENTS OF SHIELD and that’s how you embrace these characters, that’s fine with me, it’s perfectly valid.
But specifically, is there such a thing as a “Tumbler comics fan?” And if so, how does someone like that differ from any other comics fan?
I am not judging anyone, I just have been giving it some thought and would love to hear from you.
Review: Red Sonja #15
Review: Red Sonja #15 — dynamitecomics
Let the record show that writer Gail Simone and artist Walter Geovani have made this new Red Sonjaabsolutely hardcore… No, not that kind of hardcore. What I mean is that between the fifteen issues that have done by these two, Red Sonja has evolved more as a character than she has from the previous decades upon decades since her original creation by Robert E. Howard. Sure, she has had moments in…

People want us to be in competition so bad, and we just keep supporting each other and being delighted in each others’ successes.
SUCH A DISAPPOINTMENT, I KNOW. :)
Power Up Subscription Box Delivers the Comics Goods
There are subscription boxes that deliver monthly for everything from make-up to clothes but what about the comics and geek stuff? There’s actually a few services to choose from. The most well known is Loot Crate which has made news due to their huge orders of comics. I’ve…
I keep thinking I want to try this…

Is it just me? Am I the only one who finds being a trans woman to be a spiritually exhausting exercise some days?
Not every day, but definitely some days.
It’s exhausting dealing with the frustration and disappointment of yet one more cis friend turning their back on you, or piling on when you’re…
Brin is a dear friend of mine, and I asked permission to reblog her comments here, which I found to be extremely powerful.
I hope you read them.
Questions About Okinawa
I have a few questions about Okinawa, and I’m curious if any readers here live there, or lived there for a decent period of time.
If you have, please let me know, okay?
Thanks!
