Gail Simone's Blog, page 179

January 26, 2016

Hey Gail! My name's Kasey and I'm a 17 year old writer who's working on a superhero story. Everything is coming together nicely. What advice would you give me if I wanted to have my superhero published and be apart of DC, or Marvel, Dark Horse, etc?

You have to start somewhere else first. Marvel and DC don’t take unsolicited material, and I’m not sure of Dark Horse’s policy but I suspect it’s similar.

Get your work published in a smaller press first, or some other form, whether it’s webcomics or mini-comics or whatever. They want to see that you can finish something and have it turn out compelling and professional.

Good luck!

Have anything inspirational to say that'll help people get through the day?

Just that there’s a lot of good stuff out there to be enjoyed, even if you are not feeling 100%.

When I’m down, I try to make some time for myself for something I love, be it music, a special snack or meal, animals, a film, comics, a book. I just go somewhere and try to have a bit of piece with something that brings me joy.

I don’t know your exact situation, but I give you permission to go do something for yourself, something that makes you happy. Good luck.

I found the style of Ragdoll’s dreams really cute tbh even if they were brought about by him suffering from air deprivation and dehydration after being trapped in the boot of a car for three days

This wonderful artist was someone I discovered online. Love her work, would love to see her do more!

Come back, Amanda Gould!

What I wouldn’t give to re-draw this entire thing again now. The things I would change. The layout. The choices.

Firstly, and it will forever bug me, I would remember to DOUBLE CHECK MY WORK BECAUSE I DIDN’T COLOUR A GUN IN THE SUPERMAN PANEL.

Still my favourite thing I’ve ever done. Thanks Gail.

Dear Amanda,

No one noticed the gun. Rest easy. ;)

DO MORE COMICS.

Figures. Even in a fight against Superman, Catman has the presence of mind to be sensitive to pronouns. I love this book.

Well, he’s a villain, not an asshole.

Thank you so much for your support of shark representation. It means a lot to the community.

I felt it was important to represent the shark community with dignity and respect, so I spoke with a well-regarded shark blogger and he ate my foot.

I feel I am able to speak for all sharks now.
