Quick! In Skyrim...

…should I join the Stormcloaks or the Imperials? They both seem awful, but I'm told you have to choose one, which one is less awful?

Frumpy costumes make girls look frumpy.

Being a bitch at panels make feminists look bad.

Hope she enjoyed her 5 minutes of fame.

Wow, asshole much OP?

A few things:

If memory serves, this is the kickass woman who kept raising issues of women working in and being portrayed in comics during panels. Already, she's a trillion times better than the sexist and insipid OP.
Frumpy and slutty are words used by people in the kyriarchy to reinforce the idea that a woman is only worthy if she looks a certain way… which is ridiculous, insulting, and infuriating.
If this woman is a 'bitch', then the OP is a neanderthal dipshit with a tired, disgusting and pointless ~sexy cosplay~ blog and is probably a basement dwelling troll with all the charms of a medical cadaver.
She may have only gotten ~five minutes of fame~, but that's far more than the OP will ever get or deserves. Suck a sick dick and choke on it.

Hey asshole, my point was that sdcc batgirl hijacked panels and made feminists everywhere look like idiots. Im a female comic fan and ive gotten a lot of shit at my LCS because of this so excuse me while i blame her. My comment on her frumpiness is aimed at her shitty costume, not her body. Lastly, fuck YO COUCH

Thank you for your input on my costume. I'm wondering, did you feel the original Stephanie Brown version was 'frumpy'? If so, it sounds like I succeeded in my aim of making it accurate, but if you don't, I'd love to hear any suggestions you might have for 'de-frumpifying' it, as long as they won't make it less true to Stephanie's costume (i.e. I can't really cut a chest window and it's already skin-tight!)

I'm sorry to hear that you were harassed at your LCS.  That must have been very frustrating for you, particularly if these are people whose respect and acceptance you are trying to gain.  If it's not too painful for you, would you be willing to talk about it and explain what happened in more detail?  I would like to better understand your point of view.

Out of curiosity, were you at any of the panels at SDCC, or did you listen to the podcasts of the panels or read my interview with dcwomenkickingass afterward?  It would help me understand where you are coming from if I knew the answers.

Thank you for your time.

Kyrax is an awesome gal who got the chance to voice what a decent amount of the comic reading population was thinking. (Also, her costume was cool lookin'!)

However, as always:

*******************

This might be the most painful thing I've read about comics on Tumblr in a long while. I don't even know where to start.

First, screw it, let's just get this out of the way…I met Kyrax in person at two different conventions, and spent time with her, she looked absolutely fucking FABULOUS, huge smile, great costume, I don't know what the OP could possibly be thinking. As if female comic fans don't already get enough crap already!

Second, she didn't 'hijack' any panels. These panels are, at best, a fun time for readers and comics creators to meet. At worst, they are just commercials for upcoming product.  They're not solemn events where the audience isn't allowed to voice their opinion to the superpowerful comic book wizards.  I've been to panels where readers have been far more vocal about things of no importance whatsoever, like minor costume changes. You're saying actually talking about things that MATTER is somehow bad form?

Let me tell you, I was proud as hell of Kyrax for getting up and asking her questions in a straightforward manner, and for her refusal to be intimidated.  In a room full of people who went from apathetic to openly hostile, that took a Batgirl-level of courage. I was there, and what she said took guts.

AND it made a difference. I spoke with several panelists after and they nearly uniformly felt bad about it, and that they knew she had a point. This stuff is a slow, irritating process, but it does make a difference, and now we have Ann Nocenti on Green Arrow and Nicola Scott on JLA and more good news coming that I can't talk about yet.She didn't make feminists look bad, she made feminists look both BRAVE and EFFECTIVE.

Finally, I've visited with Kyrax, I've spoken with her many times. She's not some mean ol' spoilsport. She was far, far more gracious and kind and understanding about what had happened than she needed to be. She was forgiving to the people that booed her and to the creators that didn't really answer her. She doesn't want to simply criticize, she wants things to be better.

She is, in short, an adult.

An AMAZING adult.

I don't know the original poster. But I was there on the panel, and was nothing but awed by this Batgirl. We should ALL be so 'bitchy,' if that's how you want to define courage and doing the right thing.

Kyrax, you keep on being Batgirl, please. You inspired a lot of people.

Heh. I did a job a while back for some weirdo. He had loads of famous people's underwear. I even saw a framed pair Thor's tighty whities. Who knew.

This issue was all about underwear.

Mostly superhero underwear.

It's important to tackle the WEIGHTY issues sometimes.

How Liberalism May Be Hurting Comic Book Sales by Darin Wagner

How Liberalism May Be Hurting Comic Book Sales by Darin Wagner:

Hahahahahaha…what a spectacular crock of shit this is.

First and foremost I'd like to know why this guy is reading comics in the comic store before buying them and then putting them back on the shelf when he discovers their offensively liberal content?

What kind of leftist hippie is he? Comic shops aren't libraries! He should be a good capitalist and pay for those comics before he reads them!

If he seriously thinks this is why comic book readership is falling then I suggest that maybe, just maybe, he removes his head from his arse and do some proper research into how the industry works.

Won't somebody please think of the oil companies?!

*************

Okay. This article isn't particularly making its case well, but I do agree that Conservatives and religious people tend to be portrayed as cartoonish, ignorant or evil in comics. It's unfair. I'm a lefty to the core and it's unfair. Some of the few honest conservative characters in comics have had that stripped away over the years (Wally West was presented as mid-West Conservative for a good while, only to have that angle dumped completely).

However, there are two HUGE problems with what he's saying.

1) At least the Conservatives and religious people are VISIBLE in comics. Dozens of groups aren't represented in comics at all, or in only the most token way, including liberal-leaning groups like Atheists. Is the occasionally unfair portrayal somehow worse than no representation at all? I know there are exceptions, but there are exceptions in the original complaint, as well. There are at least SOME positive Conservative portrayals.

2) IF what this gentleman is saying is true (and it isn't, not on any big scale…he's projecting a personal reaction to explain a problem that is vastly more complex than  that), then wouldn't Conservative-leaning comics be growing, or at least maintaining their audience with greater vigor than the liberal-leaning comics he's upset about?  There are plenty of talented Conservative creators: Frank Miller, Dave Sim, Bill Willingham, Chuck Dixon, Beau Smith, Billy Tucci, on and on. Wouldn't Conservatives be drawn to their work and buck this trend?

When a liberal comment makes him put a comic back on the stands, wouldn't the lack of same cause him, and those who agree with him, to buy HOLY TERROR?

But there is zero evidence, and I mean ZERO evidence, that any such trend is occurring. If anything, those creators are being hit with the same market softness that the rest of the industry has been. It's a little ironic that a few of the books he's chosen to mention as containing Conservative-slamming comments are in fact the top-selling titles in the industry.

Twenty years ago, we didn't have comics piracy, we didn't have competition from the internet, we had a different price point and distribution system. There are dozens of factors, some of which may in fact be related to content.

But I could just as easily say, I don't like books where the characters wear yellow capes, so I put those books back on the stands, and now the industry is much smaller. It MUST be the yellow capes propaganda.

Where is the evidence?

Good thing Marvel scooped up Orson Scott Card to save comics.

I get mad just hearing that guy's NAME right now. If I ever meet him at a con, I have some questions to ask that guy, I guarantee.

orson Scott Card & Marvel. Don't even get me started. He's the literary world's version of Santorum. And yet everyone LOVES the guy. Smug, condescending essays on homosexuality being the greatest evil in America and all. I refuse to buy or read anything he writes on the off chance the money that goes back to him will fund another Proposition 8 initiative.

I don't love the guy at all. I think his opinions on gays are absolutely revolting. I was a fan of his at one point, but that dried up the first time he opened his goddamned trap about gay people.

My favorite Deadpool scene I ever wrote. Haven't read this in years, thanks!

Deadpool seems oddly lucid, but then, I also feel like it fits?
Mostly I'm frightened to pick up any Deadpool these days because so many writers seem to think…

********************

It's true, he's deadly serious here.

Well, here's the thing. This is going to sound awful, maybe. But I hate 'wacky' Deadpool.  I don't want him to be ZANY.  I think ZANY Deadpool is a one note character I have no interest in.

The Deadpool I like to read, and to write, is more disturbed and disturbing than simply wacka wacka wacka constantly.  He's still funny, he still does stupid things sometimes (I had one issue of Agent X where Deadpool is just masturbating the entire issue), but I always felt that if he didn't have some gravity to him (beyond bloodshed), that he loses what makes him interesting, which is his tragedy. He's got to have some sadness he can't face at his core, or he just gets annoying.

I haven't been keeping up, I hear great things about his books now, but my favorite DP writers of the past always had SOME grounded moments among the pie-in-the-face stuff. I was hired by Joe Quesada with the mandate to make the book, "laugh-out-loud funny" again. But I also wanted to make people realize what a genuinely fucked life Wade had.
