Um

I kinda LIKE the new Power Girl and Huntress outfits.

I just do. I think they're appealing.  I didn't like some of the new 52 redesigns, but these look nice, and the Perez cover is lovely.

Please commence destruct mode. :)

Heh, this is gorgeousl

I'm not the world's biggest Wolverine fan anymore…I think what made me like the character was his unpredictability and they long ago overexposed that. I still like the IDEA of him, and I am sure I'm missing a ton of great stories, but I see him and realize he's just not my cup of tea at this point (I know, I keep hearing his new X-men book is great, just haven't read it yet).

So it was a little weird, when we were putting together the Villains United Secret Six, that after finally picking the six personalities that I thought would be the coolest, we had THREE characters with claws.

That felt very odd…like the glut of Deadpool books and appearances of a couple years ago. It felt a bit pander-y, even though Wolverine himself was never on my mind (as I was well into my ennui for the character and had been for years).

So I always thought the thing to do would be to face it head on and have Cheshire, Scandal and Catman claw each other up in a battle royale.  Unfortunately, we didn't get to do that before Cheshire left the team, but I'm always kind of sad we didn't at LEAST get to see something like the above scene.

Also, this is a really nice piece of art…Scandal in particular looks fantastic!

"There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that "my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge."

Best and truest thing ever.

I do get disillusioned and depressed, absolutely.

But I also get mad.

I think we can be the agents for change, I think we can use what tools we have to point out inhumane behavior.

We're not going to win every battle. We're going to lose a fair number. Innocent people will get hurt. And sometimes, WE will be the ones who screwed up, who didn't know all the facts, who picked the wrong side, who reacted defensively instead of compassionately.

But I still think we can win, I still think for every jerk out there trying to tear people down, there are others out there who have enough strength and character to try to help them back up.

I'm not Pollyanna, I get overwhelmed by the mean-spiritedness and lack of kindness out there, too, even in movements and philosophies I believe in and cherish.  We can't fix broken people, mostly likely. Odds are, they are pretty unhappy inside, and that's part of why they treat others so badly.

But I do believe we can do a bit of good for others every day, and that really is the cure for everyone involved. You can't save everyone, you can't make everyone feel better, but you can do a little every day.

And sometimes that helps.

Geek Girl Con 2012 Announced!

One of last year's most wonderful surprises is BACK.

This August, in Seattle, the GEEK GIRL CON, one of the most fun, beautifully organized and inspiring conventions I've ever attended is back, back, back and I cannot WAIT.

Regardless of how you identify on the gender chart, this con is not to be missed. There are speakers from television, fiction, comics, gaming, cosplay, and music, all with a positive message of hope, creativity and joy. It was ridiculously fun last year, I was honored to be a guest for their first show and I could not have been more impressed.

YOU WANT TO GO TO THIS SHOW.

Geekgirlcon.com

All the things we often talk about here on Tumblr, gender inequity and unfairness, this con helps demolish. And they're going to do even better this time.

Geek girls exist, this con proves it, come and have the best time ever!

I am HAPPY.
