These are photos of Pine Ridge Indian Reservation: An Oglala Sioux Native American reservation located in the U.S. state of South Dakota.  Here men, women and children are forced to live in appalling poverty stricken conditions because of the neglect and ignorance of the Government whose members live in luxury while these people struggle in cramped conditions with little food and no running water.  Many are unaware of this and others just choose to turn a blind eye but we need to get the truth out there and encourage more and more people worldwide to speak out against this as it's completely disgusting and unacceptable for the U.S in today's modern society.  Reblog and help increase awareness and if you would like to help further you can find out more or make a donation here, every little bit counts.  http://friendsofpineridgereservation.org/

INTERESTING, 15 NOTES.

AND YET, A PHOTO THAT I POSTED YESTERDAY OF A TACKY/RACIST BELLY RING HAS 3000.

Oh weetz, darling. Don't you know that no one cares what out life is actually like? They just want to play pretend Indian.

My sister spent a week up that this exact reservation and what she told me and the pictures she showed me matches up with this. The ones I've seen in Arizona and Utah look like and sound like this too. It's no exaggeration.

Native American reservations are by far the most poverty stricken communities in the entire country and represent a massive scar in American history. Yes, most American citizen have no clue about how bad these living conditions are unless they live near a reservation.

Reblogging for truth.

Nicola Scott Appreciation spam!!! :)

this is Aaron Lopresti not Nicola Scott, But i do love her art as well!

Shawn writes:

Hell hath no fury like a woman slightly peeved.

*************

Jason Aaron did a magnificent job on this book, he was an absolute joy to work with, a complete doll.  Total pro in every way.

When he had to leave the book for another project, he asked if I could write him a full page drawing of Wonder Woman that he could hang on his own wall to remember her by.  This is it, the last page of his last issue, Wonder Woman telling Power Girl she'd better fucking well step back.

I love it because to me, it shows the lie of the supposed 'dichotomy' that so many writers THINK Wonder Woman has…"She's a warrior for peace? That makes no sense."

Of course it makes sense…throughout history, people have put themselves in harm's way for others, to be, not conquerors, but liberators. To be, not destroyers, but defenders.

That's Wonder Woman. Slap her in the face, she'll hug you.  Slap an innocent in the face, she will absolutely kick your ass from here to Antarctica.

Aaron drew that really well.

And for me, it's ALWAYS Nicola Scott Appreciation Day!

The Happy Sorceress: Amy Reeder off Batwoman

The Happy Sorceress: Amy Reeder off Batwoman:

dcwomenkickingass:

DC announced this morning that Trevor McCarthy will be stepping in for issues 9 through 11 of Batwoman. McCarthy most recently worked on Gates of Gotham.

DC isn't saying why, but Amy Reeder stated on her Facebook page, "It's definitely regrettable…some real creative…

Damn, that's a real shame, and a real loss for that title. Amy's work is beyond phenomenal.

So I Asked On Twitter About The Favorite Females

Just as I did here.  Twitter is obviously not for the loquacious, and it's often frustrating when people ask legitimate and meaningful questions, trying to answer in a way that does justice to the question and the response.

But sometimes, the brevity can be really powerful.  I asked everyone, what single female character in each of the DC and Marvel universes is your absolute favorite, and a wonderful poster I hadn't met before named Daidia said,

"@GailSimone my favorites: Wonder Woman(made me proud to be a woman) and Storm(made me proud to be a Black woman)!"

It just knocked me off my feet and almost brought tears to my eyes. I have felt those kinds of feelings (about being a woman, anyway) from these characters all my life. When you read Wonder Woman or Storm, at their best, it can give you strength when you are exhausted, it can give you courage when you are anxious, and it can give you pride when you are vulnerable.

These kinds of characters can remind you of your worth when your surroundings and the people in your proximity do not. I have seen people achieve amazing things because of things they had internalized from their favorite superheroes.

It's a big, big part of why I am so fascinated with them. I am a grown woman, I don't really have the romanticism of childhood that many superhero writers do (possibly because my own childhood was pretty dreadful in many ways). But it's because I am a thinking adult that I find these characters so compelling, not in spite of it. I am not trying to recapture some glorious day in Mayberry reading a comic in the sunshine when I was a child, because that was not my life at all.

I find these characters inspirational and endlessly fascinating as an adult woman. I am not even remotely ashamed or embarrassed by that. They have added a lot of meaning and joy and insight to my life. The best of them make me have feelings like what Daidia is saying. When so much media is soulless and mean, the best comics characters were still talking about tolerance and compassion and fighting for what's right.

Before Ripley, there was Lois Lane, the best reporter at the Planet. Before Buffy, there was Wonder Woman. Before Xena, there was Storm. Before Kim Possible, there was Kitty Pryde. All fighters in different ways, all with a deeply held message of doing what is right and just and brave.

And proud to be female.

Thank you, Daidia!

""I made Rio Bravo because I didn't like High Noon. Neither did Duke. I didn't think a good town..."

"

"I made Rio Bravo because I didn't like High Noon. Neither did Duke. I didn't think a good town marshal was going to run around town like a chicken with his head cut off asking everyone to help. And who saves him? His Quaker wife. That isn't my idea of a good Western."

[…] In his Playboy interview from May 1971, Wayne stated he considered High Noon "the most un-American thing I've ever seen in my whole life" and went on to say he would never regret having helped blacklist liberal screenwriter Carl Foreman from Hollywood.

"

-

Howard Hawks destroying any and all desire I will ever have to see Rio Bravo. God forbid somebody write a western in the '50s that actually had the temerity to have principles.  Fuck him and fuck John Wayne, the gutless poser.  (via lowarthighcraft)

John Wayne said some really racist stuff. Seeing him constantly held up as the American heroic ideal is just nauseating.

Barbara Gordon: will fuck your shit up.

She will, you know. And smile while doing it.

Dang, my favorite Oracle fight, and my favorite BOP antagonist. Love Spy Smasher, LOVED watching her get schooled by Oracle!

And look! She didn't need to be in spandex to do it! Or have a miraculous recovery of her legs!

Yes, I am still bitter about them taking away Oracle, Cass, Steph, and the *proper* Birds of Prey to give us vanilla Babsgirl again.

I understand, I feel it, too, but man, that is not at all what happened.  Cass' book was canceled years ago, Steph's book was going to be canceled. Neither of those things had anything to do with Barbara. I know people make that connection, but they just didn't.

Birds of Prey, that's a tough one—that clearly did get affected by the New 52 but it's still a really good book and a lot of people are loving it. It may really have been time for a change.

As the writer of this very scene, I know absolutely that Barbara didn't need spandex or the use of her legs to kick ass, and I miss Oracle a lot, as well. And the exact roles of Cass and Steph, some of that is out of my hands, but I wouldn't give up yet, seriously.

I understand being upset, I miss a ton of pre-new52 stuff myself, all the time.

I wouldn't give up yet, seriously.

Someone I really trust is working on this.

If you trust, I trust!!! I admit to being one of those fans whose had some trouble adjusting to all the changes but Steph & Cass (along with Secret Six) have been the hardest for me, so this just completely made my night!!!! Thanks so much!

It's an adjustment for all of us…what is sometimes painful is how SLOW it is for all the stuff to roll out. And some stuff is still missing that I really, really cherish.

I don't want to further derail the thread, so I will just say Nicola Scott rules and look at Oracle in full fury right there. MAN!
