Writers Love to Write a Writer Character, Why?
I notice that writers have been always tempted to write in his work a main character who is a writer. Including myself. First, because a writer knows how the writer is. Second, because there are many great stories behind writing profession. A writer is a person with high dose of curiosity. And a writer has always wanted to tell the world what is in his brain. He can be so insightful. And such insights could potentially be a thrilling stories. Just watch The Shining (1980), Misery (1990), The Disappearance of Garcia Lorca (1997), Quills (2000), Moulin Rouge (2001), Adaptation (2002), Secret Window (2004), King Kong (2005), and so on. You'll know that I'm right. * * * Beberapa hari lalu di Bandung, saya menonton The Adventures of Tintin bareng Rie Yanti. Tapi wartawan. Seorang wartawan memang berpeluang melakukan hal-hal besar seperti [...]

What First Readers Worth
Many writers couldn't barely wait to hand his manuscript to a publisher. Without asking the other or any first reader for a comment, they just sent it despite the fact that these first readers can be very helpful to polish a work. I myself have a lot of positive experiences with my first readers. Sometimes [...]

Have you, as a fiction author, ever been asked by people pretended to know everything about work of writing and publishing? Were you boxed into a corner by those questions? I was. I have ever faced few "judges" like that. But I never give a damn, ha-ha. I have a list of what did my [...]

Batik Today
On October 2, 2009, UNESCO designated Indonesian batik as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. The education, science and cultural organization of United Nations insisted that Indonesia preserves their batik heritage. Of course! I can't see otherwise. Batik has long been Indonesian traditional clothes, since the kingdoms era. Though, I cannot just [...]

The Tenderness of Young Goat's Meat
At Sepanjang rue, Sidoarjo, you may possibly bump into this view: a pushcart display of a goat meat. The goat is about still intact, fresh, and small (that means it is still young). Sweet-scented smoke that signifies a grill emerges. You're quite monk if you don't drool in seconds. Warung Sate Barongan Pak Uniq (Mr. [...]

Mind Mapping for Fiction Writing
Do you make a skeleton before writing your work of fiction? I do. It is important for me. The skeleton is like a railroad that makes the machinist saves his time from thinking all the time, "Where do I go after this station?" You can say, skeleton for a novel is the same as scenario [...]
