UNTIL DAWN Movie Update: David F. Sandberg to Tell an Original Story Capturing ‘Essence’ of Game
Director David F. Sandberg seems done with the world of superheroes after two Shazam! movies, and is returning to his horror roots with a new film. The Swedish director of Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation has signed on to direct a feature film version of Until Dawn, an adaptation of the popular PlayStation horror video game, for Sony Pictures. It’s being developed by Screen Gems, together with PlayStation Productions. All three companies are under the larger Sony umbrella. Most recently, we learned that Sandberg’s Until Dawn movie will tell an original story that captures the spirit of the game’s world.

Screen Gems president Ashley Bucks recently shared that in his conception of Until Dawn, David F. Sandberg “took the essence of what makes the game great and selected elements we think are the most important to the fans and paid homage to it in the right way.” She additionally adds, “We then built out Until Dawn‘s universe using the core premise of a group of friends who encounter a variety of terrifying threats to tell a new story that is truly visceral and horrifying.” Emphasis on “new.”
But, there will be some connective tissue between the Until Dawn video game and its movie. Bucks revealed that Peter Stormare’s Dr. Hill game character will also appear in the film. Stormare, for his part, noted once again that a “brand-new story” awaited fans of the game, one that would have “fresh characters and victims.” In short, it’s “Until Dawn like you’ve never seen it before.”
More About the Until Dawn Movie and Game
Gary Dauberman, the screenwriter behind hit horror franchises It, Annabelle, and The Nun is doing a rewrite on the script originally written by Blair Butler. Butler had previously written wrote Sony’s vampire film, The Invitation. Speaking of vampires, Dauberman also recently finished his adaptation of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot, which is sitting on a shelf at Warner Bros. We’re all still waiting for that one. Disney also announced Dauberman as the one taking the helm of a long-awaited adaptation of the ’90s animated hit, Gargoyles.
Until Dawn is an interactive horror video game that came out back in 2015. The game focuses on eight friends who arrive one day at a remote mountain retreat. There, they come face-to-face with several deadly scenarios, a killer on the loose, and even cannibal wendigos. All the members of the group of friends have to face their biggest fears, or they won’t live to see another day. Until Dawn ended up being a big seller, and critics also loved it. Until Dawn ultimately received several gaming awards nominations. Sony is no doubt hoping they have the same game-to-live-action success that they had with The Last of Us. No word on when the movie goes before the cameras, or any release window. However, we wouldn’t expect it before 2026.

Former Thanos Josh Brolin Hints at Playing Darkseid in the DCU
Josh Brolin will go down in history as one of the greatest cinematic sci-fi villains of all time after playing Thanos in the MCU. He’ll be standing in the Hall of Fame, right next to Darth Vader and Khan. But now he’s hinting that he might be angling to play another cosmic villain. In fact, the one that inspired Thanos in the first place—DC Comics’ Darkseid. Recently, reports surfaced that after turning down the part of Hal Jordan in the upcoming Lanterns series, DC Studios was still in talks with Brolin for another role. He then shared a fan-made image from prolific artist BossLogic to his Instagram stories of himself as Darkseid. Which to us, means he’s at least open to the idea of playing the Lord of Apokolips.
The rumour whispers going around is that #joshbrolin is still in talks for something big in the DCU, Josh and DC have the biggest opportunity to do the funniest thing…… 😂 pic.twitter.com/2GWzYgqqS4
— BossLogic (@Bosslogic) January 5, 2025
The great Jack Kirby created Darkseid as part of his New Gods series for DC in 1970. Although his New Gods series didn’t last long, Darkseid continued to grow in popularity in other comics. The character slowly became the DC Universe’s biggest villain. Marvel Comics actually asked creator Jim Starlin to come up with a Darkseid of his own for them, and the result was Thanos. Both characters became popular, and eventually, Thanos would become less of a direct copy of Darkseid. Nevertheless, the two despotic alien overlords are very similar. So similar, that it’s a surprise Josh Brolin would even want to play the role. Aside from that amazing paycheck it would provide, of course.

Right now, we can’t think of a suitable Darkseid project in the works at DC Studios, ever since Warner Bros. canceled Ava DuVernay’s proposed New Gods film. But even if that is revived for DC Studios, we think James Gunn should not try to repeat what worked for Marvel. Especially as Brolin already played such a very similar character in the MCU to great success. If we’re just going to go by voice, we think iconic character actor Keith David is ideal as Darkseid. If they want a younger actor who could do some mocap work, and not just voiceover? There’s Javier Bardem, who would totally crush it. If Josh Brolin wants to be a bad guy in the DCU, we think he’d be a much better Deathstroke. Someone, please cast him for that. He’d be perfection.

Timothée Chalamet and Glen Powell Look-Alike Winners Walked the Golden Globes Red Carpet
The 2025 Golden Globes have come and gone and oh what a night it was! Maybe. I don’t actually know. I’m not usually locked in on the Golden Globes, you know? But I do enjoy a weird Hollywood story and the show’s red carpet delivered exactly that. Two of Hollywood’s biggest stars made their presence felt doubly without having to do twice the work. Winners of celebrity look-alike contests for both Glen Powell and Timothée Chalamet got a chance to attend the event. And while super fun for them, their presence should have caused zero confusion for everyone else.

— The Hollywood Reporter (@THR) January 5, 2025
Max Braunstein and Miles Mitchell each got the opportunity to walk the Golden Globes red carpet before the show for the same reason (a reason we first heard about at The Huffington Post). Last year, each emerged victorious in celebrity look-alike contests. Glen Powell’s own mother judged Braunstein the winner of her son’s look-alike contest in Austin, Texas last November. You can sort of see it. (It helps if you’re not wearing your glasses.)

Meanwhile Mitchell won a Chalamet doppelganger contest in New York City last October, an event you might have heard about since the Muad’Dib himself showed up. Mitchell beat out nearly 2,500 entrants, which makes us wonder how little his competitors looked like the Dune and A Complete Unknown star. That is no judgement on Mitchell’s looks. He’s a handsome young guy. We’re simply judging him on his Chalamet-ness, and by that measure this is a stretch.

Not that either should care. They each look enough like their celeb counterparts they got to attend the Golden Globes and hold a silly little sign. Even better is that each got a chance to take a photo with their celebrity. (Braunstein might also get a movie cameo with Powell soon.)

I don’t know what happened at at the 2025 Golden Globes. But clearly a guy who sort of looks like Glen Powell and a guy who looks like Timothée Chalamet’s third cousin were big winners after winning a look-alike contest.

Will Smith Hints at Possibly Starring in a New THE MATRIX Movie
One of the most famous “What If?” questions in movie history is what The Matrix movies would’ve been like with Will Smith as Neo. As many fans know, Smith was offered the leading role as Neo by the Wachowskis but he turned it down in favor of the Wild Wild West movie. Obviously, one movie became a whole franchise and one of the most influential sci-fi movies of all-time and it was NOT Wild Wild West. (FWIW, I actually think that movie is a ton of fun and he was great in it.) Will Smith has always maintained that he is okay with his choice and, honestly, it is hard to imagine anyone other than Keanu in that role. But now Will Smith is stirring up theories on Instagram after posting a cryptic video hinting that he could be in a future Matrix movie.
The video mimics the blacked out computer screen that Neo saw a message on in the original film. The initial screen of orange text says the following:
In 1997, the Wachowskis offered Will Smith the role of Neo in The Matrix. Smith turned it down. He chose Wild Wild West, believing it was a better fit for him at the time. But the question remains: What would The Matrix have been like with Will Smith as Neo?
The following screens are what really got fans going. They say “Wake up Will…” and “The Matrix has you…”

Will Smith posted the strange Matrix message without further captions, which led to people losing their minds in his comments. Is Will Smith going to star in a new The Matrix movie? Will he team up Keanu Reeves for it? Is this film a reboot or just one that takes place in that universe? Or is Will just playing with people’s emotions because he likes to do that on IG? We don’t know but it seems like he’s hinting at something coming soon. His long-time creative partner DJ Jazzy Jeff posted fire emojis, indicating that he is aware of what The Fresh Prince is up to. Let’s see what happens in the near future.

SHŌGUN Seasons 2 and 3 Are In the Works at FX, Here’s Their Current Status
Although it sounded like Shōgun would be a 10-episode mini-series and no more, it’s not really very surprising that FX has reversed course in light of the show’s popularity. FX has officially confirmed that it is working on more seasons of Shōgun. A release shares that, in fact, a Shōgun season two and a season three are very likely.

A release shares:
FX, Hulu and the Estate of James Clavell are working to extend the critically acclaimed global hit drama Shōgun, moving forward to develop the saga with two additional seasons of the drama series.
The show’s key creative partners including Co-Creators, Executive Producers and Writers Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo, Executive Producer Michaela Clavell, and series star and producer Hiroyuki Sanada are on board for the development. Production timing has not been locked in, but a writers’ room is being assembled and will begin this summer.
Additionally, the release notes, “The story and characters are intended to continue the saga.” We can’t wait to see Hiroyuki Sanada return as Lord Yoshii Toranaga. For now, we know almost nothing about what future seasons of Shōgun will look like, but recently the showrunners of the series shared that they’d almost nailed the story of season two. They noted of the second season, “We’re almost done with our first real break to the end of what the story is. I’m so grateful for the foundation that Clavell established. There are always these moments where we’re like, ‘What are we missing?’ You just pick up the book and it’s like, ‘Oh, this guy. I forgot about this guy. We never used this guy in the first season.’ I am so excited by what we’ve been coming up with.” Ultimately, though, they do share that creating more seasons is “so much harder.” But hopefully, it’ll be worth the effort.
Ultimately, Shōgun was a thoughtful, authentic, and well-crafted entry into the world of television. We would not be sad to see a Shōgun season two.

MINECRAFT 2 Game ‘Is Basically Announced,’ According to Original Creator
Minecraft is a game that needs no introduction; it’s easily one of the most popular video games that has ever existed, and it’s literally the highest-selling video game of all time, having sold 300 million copies. To be clear, that’s almost as many people as there are in the United States as a whole. But what would a Minecraft 2 game look like? Well, we might be about to find out… spiritually anyway. Minecraft‘s original creator Markus Persson, also known as Notch, has shared that he “basically announced Minecraft 2” on his social media. It sounds like he doesn’t really want to make a Minecraft 2 (a spiritual successor to the game, anyway), but he will, if that’s what the people want to buy.
Honest and legitimate request for feedback for once:
— notch (@notch) January 1, 2025
The new game I'm passionately working on is currently set to be a traditional roguelike (i.e. ADOM, nethack, etc) mixed with a tile based first person dungeon crawler (ie Legend of Grimrock (esp 2), Eye of the Beholder)
But…
On his Twitter, Notch posted the following message, “The new game I’m passionately working on is currently set to be a traditional roguelike (i.e. ADOM, nethack, etc) mixed with a tile based first person dungeon crawler (ie Legend of Grimrock (esp 2), Eye of the Beholder) But then I gots to thinking that maybe there are people who like my work but might not share my taste in retro nostalgia and would prefer for me to make a spiritual successor thing to Minecraft, and I mean sure, I’d take that cash.” He then shared a poll… and to no one’s real surprise, the Minecraft 2 option won the day by a landslide.

To that end, Notch followed up his post with another saying, “I basically announced Minecraft 2. I thought that maybe people ACTUALLY do want me to make another game that’s super similar to the first one, and I’m loving working on games again. I don’t super duper care exactly which game I make first (or even if I make more), but I do know I’m making one, so I figured I’d absolutely be willing to give it an honest shot in the form of a spiritual successor to Minecraft and put up a poll about it.” Notch does caution that “spiritual successors are usually kind of… you know… washed up. Tragic.” He seems to imply that could be true of the Minecraft spiritual sequel as well. But hey, money talks.

A MINECRAFT MOVIE Trailer Brings Steve’s Origin Story, Block Zombies, and MoreUltimately, whatever game Notch makes (or doesn’t make) will not literally be Minecraft 2. Notch sold Minecraft and Mojang, the video game studio that develops it, to Microsoft in 2014, over ten years ago. And it would be up to Microsoft to determine what a true Minecraft 2 would look like. And so far, we’ve heard no talk about any spinoffs or sequels to the title. (Although a live-action movie is coming soon.) But, of course, what is in a name? Ultimately, Notch doesn’t share much about what his spiritual successor/sequel game to Minecraft would look like, so it’s hard to know if we should want it to happen or not. In additional tweets, he notes generally, “I’d make a similar game based on what I think the audience that says they want that game might enjoy. Probably do early access to make sure we’re on track.”

Walter White’s House From BREAKING BAD Hits the Market for $4 Million
Have you always wanted to live in Walter White’s house? Yes, that house, his iconic family home from Breaking Bad. It’s a very real place in Albuquerque where Bryan Cranston’s character tossed a pizza onto the roof in a rage. It’s also where Walt sat by the pool proudly admiring his plan to poison an innocent child, because he was a vile monster. Well, if that legendary abode is the place you want to call your own, you might need to start selling crystal meth to afford it. The house from Breaking Bad is officially on the market for a whopping $4 million dollars.

Joanne Quintana told KOB4 (in news we first heard at IGN) her and her siblings are selling their family house, a.k.a. Walter White’s house. Her family purchased it in 1973, but everything about their lives inside that 1,900-square foot home changed in 2006. That’s when a promising TV show knocked on their door and asked to use it for a pilot.
AMC not only picked up the show, it went on to become one of the biggest hits in television history. In turn the house, whose interior was never actually used for filming, has become a huge destination for fans, much to the chagrin of its owner. With so many people, some of who don’t understand boundaries and privacy, stopping by for pictures (or to throw pizzas on the roof!) the family had to put up a fence to keep themselves safe. That included protecting their sick, elderly parents.
Now that they’ve both passed away, their kids have decided it’s time to move on. And they’re hoping to do so with a big payoff for being part of a legendary show. The family only got paid a fee per shoot. They never got residuals.
The $4 million asking price for the Breaking Bad house dwarfs the amount the home would get otherwise get according to Zillow. But that assessment is for normal house in that neighborhood. Instead those house is worthy of its own website.
Quintana and her siblings know they’re likely to be the last family to call 3828 Piermont Drive NE home. They expect the buyers will transform it into a BnB or museum, something the fans will want.
So long as the new owners don’t turn it into a make crystal meth lab, it should be fine.

THUNDERBOLTS* Is Like THE BREAKFAST CLUB, Shares Sebastian Stan
The Thunderbolts have been a long-awaited MCU team. The quasi-villainous anti-hero/misfit gang is a staple of the Marvel Comics world, and many heroes have been a part of it at some time or another. As the MCU slowly gathered the right members, fans speculated harder and harder that the Thunderbolts were coming. And finally, in 2022, Marvel Studios made the big announcement—the MCU’s Thunderbolts* movie was finally on the way.
Sebastian Stan compares the Thunderbolts* to The Breakfast Club pic.twitter.com/Xxk9oqLEhQ
— Captain America and Winter Soldier News (@falconsoldierTV) January 6, 2025
We’ve gotten a trailer for Thunderbolts* but we still don’t know too much about what the film is all about. To help us create a slightly better picture in our minds, Sebastian Stan has an apt comparison for us. He notes, “I think this movie is very singular and will stand on its own. I know these are bold words, but there’s no other Marvel group that you can kind of compare us to, it’s its own thing. I like The Breakfast Club, that’s the best way of describing it. A pair of misfits that hopefully don’t kill each other.” Sold. Here’s hoping we see Stan’s Bucky Barnes doing the iconic fist pump in the film.

Here’s everything we know so far about Thunderbolts*.
Title
For now, the movie about the Thunderbolts is simply called Thunderbolts*. There is that lurking asterisk that carries some kind of hidden meaning. Kevin Feige has revealed that it’s there for a reason. Speaking at CinemaCon 2024, he shared, “Yes, you’ll notice the asterisk on Thunderbolts. That is the official title of Thunderbolts and we won’t talk more about that until after the movie comes out.” This refusal to address the Thunderbolts* asterisk seems to mean that it’s important. Let the speculation begin.
Thunderbolts*’ PlotKevin Feige confirms THUNDERBOLTS*’ is the new official title
— ScreenTime (@screentime) April 11, 2024
“We won’t talk about the asterisk until after release.” pic.twitter.com/wCwx5g3CWC

We don’t know much about the plot of Thunderbolts*. However, we know who will be part of the MCU Thunderbolts. The Thunderbolts will comprise of Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine, Ghost, Red Guardian, Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes (a.k.a Winter Soldier), US Agent, and Taskmaster.
The Thunderbolts* teaser trailer gives us a bit more of an idea of what we can expect. The clip focused on Yelena (Florence Pugh) as she knocks on Alexei (David Harbour). He welcomes her into his messy apartment. He asks what brings her there, and she says something’s wrong with her, an emptiness. She tried to throw herself into work after Natasha’s death, and we see cuts of her killing people. There’s also Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), US Agent (Wyatt Russell), and Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), who is in costume. Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) arrives and assembles them together for a “bad Avengers” adventure of some sort. Make of that what you will.

For now, we still don’t have an official synopsis of Thunderbolts*, but a release from Marvel promises “an irreverent team-up featuring depressed assassin Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) alongside the MCU’s least anticipated band of misfits.”
Kevin Feige, meanwhile, recently spoke briefly about the film and said that it is truly “what Marvel is all about.”
“It’s taking characters from all different types of places and franchises and putting them together,” he said. “That’s what the Avengers is, that’s what Guardians of the Galaxy is.”
Thunderbolts*’ CastAccordingly to the MCU Thunderbolts line-up, here is the projected main cast of the movie so far, pending any surprise recastings:

Julia Louis-Dreyfus returns as Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine in Thunderbolts*. Hannah John-Kamen will play Ghost. David Harbour remains as Red Guardian. Florence Pugh will reprise her role Yelena Belova. Sebastian Stan will again take on the role of Bucky Barnes (a.k.a Winter Soldier). Wyatt Russell will appear as US Agent. And Olga Kurylenko will appear as Taskmaster.
Geraldine Viswanathan will now take on a mystery role initially meant for Ayo Edebiri. And reportedly, Lewis Pullman will replace Steven Yeun as Sentry in the Thunderbolts* movie.
Behind the ScenesEric Pearson will write Thunderbolt*’s script, and Jake Schreier will direct the movie. Beef‘s creator and showrunner Lee Sung Jin has also come aboard as a writer of the movie. Kevin Feige is, of course, producing this Marvel Studios’ production.
Thunderbolt‘s Release Date
Thunderbolts* is scheduled to release on May 2, 2025.

This Retro Home Basement Video Store Is a Dream Hangout Spot
Home projects have become increasingly popular since 2020 for obvious reasons. The world is pretty much back to “normal” at this point, but a lot of people still find value in staying at home and entertaining themselves. And, if you’re in your safe personal space, you might as well make it fun, right? That’s exactly what this couple, specifically the husband, did. But he didn’t add a pretty backsplash in their kitchen or a new sink to the bathroom. He turned their basement into a throwback video rental store that’s been giving them joy.
The cool digs are a video store lovers’ dream with a lot of fun and nostalgia. A video from TikTok account @thevideobunker gives fans a tour of the uber-cool space from the glass front door (which you must pull, not push) to all of the bits of paraphernalia. It’s straight out of the ’80s with neon lighting, posters, figurines, and even a separate viewing room in the back.
@thevideobunkerBest wife ever. #thevideobunker #videostore #vhstapes #movietok #renovation♬ original sound – Be Kind, Rewind
There’s even an, ahem, adults-only section behind the front counter. Gotta keep it out of the hands of kids. It’s pretty obvious that this collection is their private one; honestly, its a cool way to display all their goods. Your own Blockbuster-esque video store beats having your prized possessions in your garage or in a storage bin for sure.
Miguel Á. Padriñá/Pexels
In the clip, the quite-proud wife reveals how her husband got the brilliant idea. At the time they created this space in 2021, their local video store was closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so he was able to acquire a lot of shelving. His project quickly got underway with all of their DVDs, VHS tapes, Blu-rays, and video games coming together to make it a super cool space.
It’s the kind of place we’d love to swing by on a Friday night to grab a good rental.
