Superman’s Hair Choices Sell Us on How He’ll Hide His Secret Identity
One of the most difficult bits of superhero lore translated from comics to live-action has always been Superman’s secret identity of Clark Kent. Or, should we say, the notion that a mere pair of glasses can hide this Adonis of a man, with no one seeing through the spectacles and seeing the Man of Steel behind the mild-mannered reporter. Christopher Reeve, with his hat and bumbling manner, almost made us believe the disguise could work back in 1978. But none of the subsequent on-screen Supermans ever came close. But it looks like David Corenswet just might. It’s not about the glasses—it’s all about the hair. Well, it’s mostly about the hair.

In the trailer for James Gunn’s Superman, we see that Corenswet’s Clark Kent has a big mop of curly black hair, mostly covering his forehead. It’s a hairstyle frequently seen among young men these days. Thanks to his glasses, and a change in posture, he really looks like a different person from his Superman persona. As the Man of Steel, he has slicked back hair, with just the one tiny “S” curl protruding out. When we see him rushing and bumbling through the streets of Metropolis like a big dope? It’s genuinely hard to see the Last Son of Krypton anywhere in there.
If one didn’t already know that Clark and Superman are the same person going in, you’d be forgiven for not realizing that Clark and Superman are played by the same actor in this film. Of course, it’s all still a big stretch. Especially as his Daily Planet cohorts interact with both Clark and Superman frequently. Regardless, we actually believe that this version of Clark might walk down the street without regular folks putting two and two together. The change in hairstyles does a lot of the heavy lifting in selling this idea.

We’re not sure why no one over thought of making a differentiation between Clark Kent and Superman’s hair before in TV or film. It was especially egregious with the Dean Cain, Brandon Routh, and Henry Cavill versions. (Smallville didn’t really need to worry about this.) None of these previous three Superman actors changed their hair (or voice, or posture) even slightly when playing either role. It all made the notion that no one could tell Clark and Superman were the same even more absurd. But the messy mop of Gen Z hair on Clark shows what an easy fix this was all along.

Of course, we still have yet to hear the difference in Corenswet’s speaking voice for both Clark and Superman. That’s sure to make a difference in selling the idea that the general public views them as two separate people. But the hairdo change seems like something that all future incarnations of Superman will utilize going forward. It’s a very simple change that makes all the difference. Unless, of course, they want to go with the old DC Comics conceit that Superman’s glasses emitted a hypnotic signal so that people couldn’t make the Clark/Superman connection. But we think a hairstyle change works just as well, and is perhaps a wee bit less ridiculous.

Jared Leto Will Play Skeletor in MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE Movie
Thinking completely inside the box is pretty par for the course for most franchise movie making. Studios tend to have lists of A-listers they think could fit in various roles or character archetypes for whatever the project is at hand. Often times if the studios go with a lesser-known actor for a hero role, they tend to go safe and dependable with the baddies. When it comes to “guys who won Oscars who also can play skeletal villains,” the list is pretty much Jared Leto, the end. And that’s exactly what Amazon MGM are doing with the role of Skeletor in their live-action Masters of the Universe movie, Variety reports.

The Masters of the Universe movie—based on the 40+-year franchise which started with Filmation’s groundbreaking 1983 animated series—has already filled up most of its roster of characters. English heartthrob Nicholas Galitzine will play Eternia’s beefy savior, He-Man, while Idris Elba and Camila Mendes will play allies Man-at-Arms and Teela, respectively. On the villains side of things, Alison Brie will play Skeletor’s number two, Evil-Lyn. Sam C. Wilson (House of the Dragon) will play Trap Jaw; Kojo Attah (The Beekeeper) will play Tri-Klops; and Hafthor Bjornsson (Game of Thrones) will play Goat Man. That’s right. The Mountain will play Goat Man. Mountain Goat. (Just me?)
Skeletor is notable in the pantheon of villains in cartoon media for having a seemingly muscular body but a skull for a head. That’s something that always weirded me out. And yes, I know he’s magical, but why is he Lou Ferrigno (what a reference) from the neck down? In the 1987 Cannon Films Masters of the Universe, Frank Langella played Skeletor with a rubber skull mask, which kinda worked better, weirdly?
Leto has a history of playing grinning, emaciated villains or undead things. He of course played the worst Joker, and the Hatbox Ghost in the recent Haunted Mansion movie. And Morbius kinda had a skeletal face thing going on at times. Anyway, he’ll probably do great.
Masters of the Universe from director Travis Knight will begin filming in June 2025.

HAPPY GILMORE 2’s First Teaser Trailer Brings Back Friends and Foes
Uh oh. Somebody taught Happy how to make a sequel. But golf’s biggest swinger isn’t the only one coming back for another round on the links. Netflix’s first teaser trailer for Happy Gilmore 2 features the return of both Happy’s greatest friend and his greatest foe.
With Adam Sandler getting his Bruins jersey out of the closet, Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald are also back for more golf fun. Both will reprise their roles from the original Happy Gilmore in Netflix’s sequel. This first-look at the film now gives us an idea of where both characters stand after all these years. Looks like things worked out for Happy and Virginia after he won his green jacket at the Tour Championship.
Things don’t look nearly as good for old Shooter McGavin, though. Shooter and Happy have a tense showdown in what looks to be a small grave site possibly located in Shooter’s own backyard? At least we hope it’s his property. Otherwise Shooter is going to the cemetery in his pajamas.

Why is Happy seeking out his most hated enemy in the first place? Could the former enemies need to team up? (Even in a primarily individual sport?) And could that have something to do with new co-star Benito “Bad Bunny” Antonio Martínez Ocasio? We don’t know just yet and Netflix isn’t offering up any specifics on the plot. But this teaser does confirm Taylor Swift’s boyfriend will appear in the film as a friendly waiter. (Yes, yes, we know, he’s famous on his own. Travis Kelce appeared in an episode of Moonbase 8 in 2020.)
Happy Gilmore 2 comes from director Kyle Newacheck. The script comes from the original’s co-writer Tim Herlihy. It also stars Conor Sherry, Ethan Cutowsky, AEW wrestler Maxwell Jacob Friedman, and Phillip Fine Schneider. Ben Stiller is also reportedly set to return. The sequel tees off at Netflix “soon.”

Max Removes Cartoon Network Hits and Other Animated Series to Begin 2025
Recently, much to the chagrin of many, CartoonNetwork.com was shut down by Warner Bros. Discovery. Although the site had once featured ways to watch some of our favorite Cartoon Network series, it was much more than that. CartoonNetwork.Com felt like a historical fixture of our internet experience, and we were very sorry to see it go. Still, Max promised that we could watch our favorite Cartoon Network series on Max, both explicitly, in a message to fans, and implicitly, by redirecting CartoonNetwork.Com to Max’s homepage. But sadly, as 2025 begins, Max has removed some of our favorite Cartoon Network series from its platform. Of course, content removal happens all the time on streaming channels, but seeing our favorite Cartoon Network hits dispersed, including Teen Titans Go!, really makes us feel like it’s the end of an era.

Here is the full list of animated series Max has removed from its platform in 2025.

That said, thanks to the recent Max removal, some of these Cartoon Network series are only available for purchase and not via any streaming subscription. In a time where streaming channels are already stacking up cost-wise, purchasing series on top of that can feel like a big smack in the face. You can check out where they’re available at the time of this writing.

THAT ’90s SHOW Canceled at Netflix, Will Not Get Season 3It also bears mentioning that season eight of Teen Titans Go!, which includes the 400th (!!!) episode of the Cartoon Network show, remains available to stream on Max. It does seem a little wild to hold onto one season of a series that reached 400 episodes and leave hundreds of its earlier episodes to another streaming channel. But streaming is as streaming does. Sadly, it seems like animated series are the first to get the boot, although, as we’ve seen before, no show is ever truly safe.

We are once again asking for all series to be released on physical media! Thank you.

A New THE MUMMY Film by Lee Cronin, Atomic Monster, and Blumhouse Will Arrive in 2026
The Mummy will apparently rise from the dead for another round. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lee Cronin, Atomic Monster, and Blumhouse are teaming up for a new horror depiction of The Mummy. There are pretty much no details about this project, but it is set for an April 17, 2026 release date. That means it will likely be later this year before we hear anything about plot details, casting, and other tidbits of information about this The Mummy reboot… or is it a reimagining or something else altogether? Who knows.

Cronin, who is known for his work on Evil Dead Rise, had this to say to The Hollywood Reporter in a statement that said the following, “This will be unlike any Mummy movie you ever laid eyeballs on before. I’m digging deep into the earth to raise something very ancient and very frightening.”
Blumhouse and Cronin also posted about their upcoming The Mummy movie in a rather vague yet ominous post on Instagram. It features the front page of a screenplay with Cronin’s name on it along with Atomic Monster and Blumhouse with a caption that says “Something terrifying will be unleashed in 2026.”
This is all quite intriguing, so let’s see where it goes.

CREATURE COMMANDOS Episode 6 Has a Surprise Batman Cameo
Creature Commandos is proving to be a supremely satisfying exploration of similar territory as James Gunn has in The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker. If anything, I actually think the creatures are more interesting than some of those other characters, but that’s neither here nor there. But maybe the most fun thing is that this show sets the stage for the overall canon of the DCU going forward. Not just for more Peacemaker or Commandos seasons, but for big stuff. We’ve already seen a possible future in which many of our big heroes die horribly. But that’s hypothetical. Episode six shows us something—and someone—major already exists.

Episode six gives us our Doctor Phosphorus flashback episode giving us his tragic origins. In the comics, Doctor Phosphorus is a Batman villain. He first appeared in Detective Comics #469 from powerhouse writer-artist team Steve Englehart and Walt Simonson. This episode shows that to be the case within the DCU. After Alexander Sartorius becomes a burning green skeleton crime lord, he hits the dancefloor at a Gotham nightclub, the Ice Lounge specifically. (That’s, of course, the Penguin’s club.) After dancing to some—go figure—Gogol Bordello, a flash of lightning reveals Batman himself standing outside the club’s skylight.

It’s an exceedingly brief moment, but its implications are pretty massive. It tells us Batman not only already exists in the DCU but is established well before the events of Creature Commandos. This makes a lot of sense given what Gunn has already told us about the proposed first Batman-centric film in the new universe. The Brave and the Bold, he told us in that announcement video, will be about Batman and his son Damien as Robin. For that to realistically make sense, Batman will need to be somewhat older, and likely operating for a while. To properly adapt the Grant Morrison run, the Bat-Family will need to exist.
We also already know a Teen Titans movie is on the way. Robin and Starfire are among the dead bodies we see in Circe’s vision. This all points to what appears to be Batman as the oldest, or at least earliest established, member of the DC Trinity. Superman will come into an existing superhero world. Wonder Woman, again as far as we know, isn’t at all around yet.
Of course we don’t know who the DCU’s Batman will be in terms of actor. But we’ve certainly seen enough Batman origin to last us a lifetime. Let’s meet up with Bruce when he’s older, but hopefully not as jaded as Batfleck.
Creature Commandos drops weekly on Max.

CREATURE COMMANDOS Renewed for Season 2 at Max
Creature Commandos officially kicked off the new DCU, but its story won’t stop at the beginning because Max has announced James Gunn’s animated series is getting a season two.

Everyone’s new favorite monster squad is keeping the unlikely team together at Max. The streaming service has renewed Creature Commandos from writer, executive producer, and co-chair of the DCU James Gunn. The official renewal comes just ahead of the season one finale. It will debut at Max on January 9. It would be easy to say the show is getting another year because it’s Gunn’s series and he runs the DCU’s creative side. But that wouldn’t be accurate. (Even if it probably didn’t hurt.) The series has also been a hit with both critics and viewers alike.
In a press release Amy Gravitt, Executive Vice President, HBO & Max Comedy Programming, talked about why they wanted to do a second season. “Only James Gunn could have conjured this wild band of misfit monsters who tug at your heart and force you to root passionately for them,” she said. “We couldn’t be more delighted to continue their stories with James, Dean Lorey, Peter Safran and our fantastic partners at DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation.”

The series stars Steve Agee as Economos, Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana, Anya Chalotra as Circe, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag, Sr., Sean Gunn as GI Robot & Weasel, David Harbour as Frankenstein, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, Indira Varma as The Bride, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.
One thing this renewal news did not include is an idea of when season two will arrive. That will be important not because we don’t want to wait, but because some big DCU projects debut this year. Those include Gunn’s Superman and Peacemaker season two. Creature Commandos season one started the DCU, but season two will have a bigger challenge to deal with. It will have to fit into the superhero world the show launched.

Christopher Nolan’s Next Movie Is an Adaptation of Homer’s THE ODYSSEY
What is a director, even one of Hollywood’s best, supposed to do after delivering an epic Best Picture winner? For Christopher Nolan, the answer is making one of the most famous epics ever. After some wild speculation and some big name casting news, we finally know exactly what story he will after Oppenheimer. Universal Pictures announced Nolan’s next movie is an adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey.
Christopher Nolan is moving on after Oppenheimer by going back. Way back. Described as a “mythic action epic,” his version of the ancient epic poem The Odyssey will rely on cutting edge technology to bring the story to life. Universal Pictures said the longtime IMAX enthusiast will be using “brand new” tech to shoot for the large-scale format.Christopher Nolan’s next film ‘The Odyssey’ is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology. The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.
— Universal Pictures (@UniversalPics) December 23, 2024
But how he will shoot the film isn’t nearly as interesting as to what the film is actually about. It’s hard to imagine anyone would have guessed Nolan would adapt The Odyssey even if they had 20 years to figure it out. (If you don’t get that reference, this movie will be very educational for you!) Even then, there’s still so much we don’t know about the project. Will this be a traditional, faithful adaptation? Will it be a modern take on the story? And will Armand Assante and George Clooney appear for a Spider-Man: No Way Home style crossover?

While we don’t know any setting or style specifics, we can guess who is playing Odysseus. Matt Damon is set to lead the star-studded film. Nolan’s The Odyssey will also feature Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, and Charlize Theron. We also know the movie will arrive in theaters on July 17 2026.
That gives us plenty of time to start guessing which legendary characters from Homer’s epic everyone is going to play. (Theron as Circe, Calypso, Penelope, or Athena? She’s perfect for literally all of them.) It also gives us time to wonder just how good this movie will be. No one delivers epics live Christopher Nolan. What’s he going to be capable of when he makes one of the most famous epics ever?

DOCTOR WHO Season Two Trailer Introduces Belinda Chandra and New Villains
The Fifteenth Doctor and Ruby Sunday’s adventures will continue in Doctor Who’s second season (which some are still calling season fifteen). For now, Ruby is back home and getting to know her birth mom but something will draw her into the TARDIS once again. Thankfully, the Doctor’s spaceship is bigger on the inside, which means there’s plenty of room for Belinda Chandra, a new companion coming to Doctor Who next season.
Right after the 2024 Christmas special, we got to get our first look at Doctor Who season two in a trailer with the Fifteenth Doctor and Belinda Chandra. Based on what we see here, it appears that the Doctor is trying to get Belinda back home but there are some strong forces preventing that from happening. We get a glimpse of Ruby’s weird neighbor Mrs. Flood as well as Ruby herself rocking an interesting haircut. We also see Kate Lethbridge-Stewart from UNIT, so perhaps we will see other faces from there as well. And one of those villains gives serious Cuphead vibes. Love to see it.
Here’s everything we know about Doctor Who season two so far.
Doctor Who Season Two’s PlotAs usual, the plot for any Doctor Who season is a bit in flux but there is a main synopsis now:
The Doctor meets Belinda Chandra and begins an epic quest to get her back to Earth. But a mysterious force is stopping their return and the time-traveling TARDIS team must face great dangers, bigger enemies and wider terrors than ever before.
In addition to the Belinda storyline, there could be more mystery to unveil with Ruby Sunday’s family, especially her father. And her neighbor Mrs. Flood is an enigma who does appear in the Doctor Who season two trailer.
Behind-the-Scenes
APeter Hoar (“A Good Man Goes to War”) and Amanda Brotchie are directing two episodes each. Ben A. Williams and Makalla McPherson will direct one episode a piece to round out the six episode season. Of course, Russell T Davies will continue as the showrunner.
Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson opened up about Doctor Who season two in a Variety interview. Gibson says that the fourth episode was a favorite onset moment. “That [episode] was the first one I filmed and the biggest challenge,” said Gibson. “So I was so proud of how it came out.”
Gatwa said he truly got to soar as the Fifteenth Doctor in this next season. This totally makes sense now that this new era has a solid foundation. “Season two felt like a chance to flex the muscles properly,” Gatwa said. “So exciting. You’re fueled by the writing and by each new story, each new monster, each new addition into our world, there’s many in Season two. It’s just the fun of the show. I think that just drives you growing into the character.”
Doctor Who season two finished filming in May 2024.
Doctor Who Season Two’s CastMillie Gibson and Ncuti Gatwa will continue their roles as Ruby Sunday and the Fifteenth Doctor. In addition to Varada Sethu’s role as new companion Belinda Chandra, Jonah Hauer-King will appear in the series.
In the aforementioned Variety interview, Russell T. Davies shed some light on how Belinda Chandra will fit into the Doctor Who season two dynamic. “We see The Doctor and Ruby in a new light, and with a new friend,” Davies affirmed. “Like you’re saying, different friends bring out different aspects of you.”
Doctor Who Season Two’s Release DateDoctor Who season two will hit BBC One and Disney+ in 2025.

Everything We Know About YELLOWJACKETS Season 3
Bzzz bzzzz, Yellowjackets fans. Season three will continue to feed us with more mysterious happenings in the wilderness as the group scrambles to seek shelter and survive. In the present day, our favorite survivors will grapple with last season’s shocking death as they try to work through their many interpersonal issues 25 years after their life-changing plane crash. What will we learn about those woods? What is the true meaning behind that weird symbol? Will Other Tai and the Man with No Eyes resurface once again? The next round of episodes will surely provide answers to our burning questions.
Here’s what we know about Yellowjackets season three so far.
Yellowjackets Season Three’s PlotRight now, we don’t know anything about season three’s plot. As previously stated, the timeline in the past will be dealing with the group losing shelter during winter. A recent Yellowjackets teaser trailer shows that Shauna will once again take center stage, as we see a few scenes of teenage Shauna acting a bit feral. Teen Natalie is now the leader in the wilderness, so we will see just how savage everyone gets.
The present timeline will have to deal with Natalie’s death and how that affects everyone in the present day. We can assume we will return back to Wiskayok to catch up with family members and unresolved issues there. Tai kinda needs to go back to her wife (if she’s even alive) and son.
This Yellowjackets trailer gives us even more insight. There’s someone threatening the group once again in the present day and, in the past, things are getting even more feral. And yes, the Man with No Eyes is back again along with newcomer Hilary Swank being seen for the first time in her mysterious Yellowjackets role.
Behind-the-scenesYellowjackets creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson will continue as its executive producers and co-showrunners alongside Jonatha Lisco. We assume the same team of writers is back for season three.
Yellowjackets Season Three’s Cast
The teen and adult ensemble cast members are coming back, including Melanie Lynskey (adult Shauna), Christina Ricci (adult Misty), Tawny Cypress (adult Tai), Lauren Ambrose (adult Van), Sophie Nélisse (teen Shauna), Jasmin Savoy Brown (teen Tai), Sophie Thatcher (teen Natalie), Samantha Hanratty (teen Misty), Courtney Eaton (teen Lottie), Liv Hewson (teen Van), Steven Krueger (Coach Ben), Warren Kole (Shauna’s husband Jeff), Kevin Alves (teen Travis), Sarah Desjardins (Shauna’s daughter Callie) and Simone Kessell (adult Lottie).
It is not impossible for adult Natalie to make an appearance, perhaps in some sort of dream or flashback. We will see. Elijah Wood is returning in a recurring role as Walter Tattersall. Hilary Swank and Joel McHale will join the cast in currently unknown guest star roles.
Yellowjackets Season Three’s Release DateYellowjackets will release will hit Paramount+ for those with the SHOWTIME plan on February 14 with two episodes. Others will be able to watch it live on February 16.
