Will Sebastian Stan Be in CAPTAIN AMERICA 4? The Latest on Bucky Barnes in BRAVE NEW WORLD
Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan. Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes. Captain America and The Winter Soldier. These are MCU combinations as classic as peanut butter and jelly. It’s a pairing so sensical, in fact, that the duo had a whole Disney+ series devoted to them, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. But with Sam Wilson’s Captain America now returning to the big screen in Captain America 4, also known as Captain America: Brave New World, fans have one important question on their minds. Will the duo live on? Will Sebastian Stan be in Captain America 4? Or will Brave New World mark Sam Wilson’s first appearance without Bucky Barnes (as a thorn) at his side?

For now, official sources, mainly Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie, seem to confirm that Stan and Bucky Barnes will NOT be in Captain America 4. But can we ever really know the truth about MCU cameos? Here are some of the latest statements we’ve seen about whether Bucky Barnes will appear (or not) in Captain America: Brave New World.
Sebastian Stan Says He “Didn’t See Anthony Mackie” This Year, Implying He and Bucky Barnes Will Not Be in Brave New WorldMost recently, Sebastian Stan addressed whether he’d be appearing in Captain America: Brave New World. Although Stan didn’t outright say he would not be in the upcoming MCU movie, his words certainly imply it. He noted to Variety, “[Filming] ‘Thunderbolts*’, let me tell you, it was a much quieter year for me because I didn’t see Anthony Mackie. So, I’ll say that. Although I miss Anthony Mackie like daily, and it’s something I don’t like to admit.”

Once again, the implication is that since he didn’t see Anthony Mackie he wasn’t filming on the Captain America movie. However, he did couch his response about “filming Thunderbolts*,” where perhaps he really did not see Anthony Mackie. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that Stan didn’t see Mackie while filming Captain America: Brave New World or that he didn’t film anything as Bucky Barnes for Captain America 4 before this year. It’s a lot to consider.
Anthony Mackie Says “I Don’t Have My Friends Anymore” on Captain America: Brave New World SetMeanwhile, Anthony Mackie seems to be singing the same tune. Speaking to Radio Times, Mackie shared, “The Falcon and [the] Winter Soldier, I really enjoyed doing that show. I was actually excited to do a second season, just so me and Sebastian [Stan] can get paid to hang out. Because it’s like me, him and Daniel Brühl. It’s kind of like the perfect storm of happiness.” He went on to say that filming Captain America: Brave New World was different because Stan and Brühl were not with him. Mackie shared, “When they decided to go back to the movies, it is what it is, but I don’t have my friends anymore, so it kind of dampens it a little bit.”

CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD Prepares for a Global War in New TrailerBut does he not have his friends at all, or does he not have them all the time? While this comment seemed to be an official confirmation from Mackie that Sebastian Stan and Bucky Barnes would not be with him in Captain America 4, it once again does not 100% give a straightforward answer about the potential cameos Brave New World could bring.
So, Will Sebastian Stan Appear in Captain America 4?Despite all these official comments that indicate Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes will not appear in Captain America 4, we personally feel like… Bucky actually will show up in Brave New World. It just seems like the MCU cameo that makes the most sense, and since when has the MCU shied away from bringing in sensical cameos as a treat for their fans? After having an entire show together it seems strange that Bucky Barnes would not appear in a Sam Wilson-centric series, especially since the show left them in such a good place with one another.

At the time of filming The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Marvel Studios might have been considering a season two for the series. But now that it seems like the future of the MCU lies away from Disney+ shows, it would make sense to have Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes appear in Captain America 4 and kind of cement this transition in a scene. (Plus this way Marvel Studios could give fans a better idea of where Bucky in his next confirmed movie, Thunderbolts*)

Steven Soderbergh’s PRESENCE Trailer Reveals a Haunted House Story From a Supernatural POV
Steven Soderbergh, the director behind such iconic films as Contagion, Ocean’s 11, and Traffic, has mostly been releasing movies to streaming only since 2018. But next year, his latest film will play on theater screens everywhere. We now have teaser trailers for Presence, a supernatural horror film from the POV of the ghost. You can check out the creepy trailers for NEON Films’ Presence, starring Lucy Liu, Julia Fox, and Chris Sullivan, right here:
David Koepp, the screenwriter behind movies like Jurassic Park and Spider-Man, is the writer for Presence. The film is from NEON, who just released one of the most successful indie horror hits of the year with Longlegs. All of this feels like the perfect storm to create another word-of-mouth horror hit at the box office. Soderbergh has gone directly to streaming for many of his serious dramatic films in the last several years. But horror continues to dominate at the box office alongside traditional blockbusters. Based on the Presence trailer, this film could absolutely be the next Longlegs or Immaculate.
Presence debuted earlier this year at Sundance, and has an early Rotten Tomatoes score of 91%. This bodes well for the film becoming a surprise breakout sleeper hit. They shot the film during the writers actors’ strikes of 2023, thanks to a special SAG-AFTRA agreement for certain indie films in production at the time. Apparently, Presence is told entirely from the first-person perspective of the ghost but we don’t know too much about its storyline. (Shades of The Sixth Sense perhaps?) Maybe the scary element to this story is the living breathing humans, and not the dearly departed. Thanks to NEON and A24, we’re in a great era for horror films right now.

NEON currently plans to release Presence on January 15, 2025.

Watch a Cat Tap His Tail to Live Music
Strife and natural disasters are everywhere, and sometimes, we all just need something unabashedly adorable to get our minds off the horrors of the world. And sometimes that means cute cat videos. Via the folks over at Laughing Squid, we have discovered a cat video that gave us all the warm fuzzies, and then some. Meet Nyaa Nyaa, a fuzzy orange cat, who sat comfortably on a cushion tapping his tail to the beat of the music. This all seems to be taking place at what looks like a dinner party. Nyaa Nyaa was just feeling the good vibes and had to join in all the fun. You can watch the video from the YouTube account Mitsu-music right here:
Little Nyaa Nyaa was so into the music at this gathering that his tail kept with the rhythm even as he was drifting off into dreamland. Luckily, there’s a video of that too if you need more wholesomeness in your life for a bit of distraction. Nyaa Nyaa was feeling the music even as he was dozing off for a cat nap. (Do cats actually take any other kind of nap?) You can watch that video too down below:

Oh, if you’re wondering what the name Nyaa Nyaa means? The words “Nyaa” or “NYAA” usually refer to nyā, a transliteration of the Japanese onomatopoeia for the meow of a cat. So yes, this cat’s English name is basically “Meow Meow.” We know, it’s not terribly original. But hey, we’ve met cats named “Mr. Kitty” before. So it could always be worse. Felines and dogs doing human things is always gonna tickle us. Kind of like that hairless cat Riki who casually scrolled through the internet that one time. We suppose grooving to some mellow tunes is less weird overall than that was.

SHREK 5 Release Date Moves Closer to Christmas 2026
Last year, Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri hinted that Shrek 5 could be coming our way with its original voice actors reprising their roles. Now, according to Variety, we know that Shrek 5 is officially happening with Eddie Murphy, Mike Myers, and Cameron Diaz returning as Donkey, Shrek, and Fiona, respectively. And there’s even a release date for Shrek 5, which was originally July 1, 2026 but is now pushed back to December 23, 2026. The film is in its early stages of development and, as Murphy previously said, a Donkey spinoff will happen sometime soon.
Dreamworks Animation released a short announcement teaser (with the original date) to get fans excited about the upcoming sequel. We love the use of Smash Mouth’s “All Star,” which was prominently featured in the original Shrek film in 2001.

The beloved animated franchise released its last film way back in 2010. For many years, fans thought it was the end of the story. But there’s apparently more jokes to be told in the fairy-tale land of Duloc.
What Is the Release Date for Shrek 5?
Again, this film will hit theaters just in time for Christmas on December 23, 2026, which is not too far, far way.

These Incredible Custom Cheese Dice Aren’t Edible But They Sure Are Delectable
Logically you don’t really need that many sets of dice. Sure, it’s nice to have some extra collections on hand for friends who forgot to bring theirs to a D&D session. Thing is even then you can just use a dice app or random number generator. But who wants to be logical when it comes to dice sets? Do you have any idea how many fantastic ones you can buy? That includes one of the best we’ve ever seen, a delectable—though not edible—cheese dice set.
You might have seen it before, too. It’s so good it’s often used in online scams.

Kyra of Dutchy Dice is a self-proclaimed “part-time dicemaker, full-time dice enthusiast from the Netherlands” who makes custom sets. Her social media accounts are full of her incredible handmade designs. From bunnies and kimonos, to glow-in-the-dark and Powderpuff Girls, her dice come in countless colors, shapes, and themes.
@dutchydice ♬ Into the Night – Tonic Walter
While we love all of her sets, we’re especially partial to her cheese dice, one of the first she ever made. They look like real hunks of delicious yellow cheese with numbers in them. You can’t actually eat them, though, which is important to keep saying since it’s easy to forget when you look at them.
There’s obviously a real taste for her cheese pieces, something some bad people have noticed. Scammers have repeatedly used her photos to lure people like mice into a trap. It’s such a problem she even has videos alerting would-be customers and fans about these scams. Don’t fall for them. If you want anything from Dutchy Dice you have to contact her directly. In that Reddit thread about her cheese dice she wrote she makes “a few sets” once in awhile and then posts a “24 hour countdown” online. It’s then “first come first serve.”
Logical or not, we want to order all the great dice sets on Kyra’s menu. We just don’t want to see any other places putting her cheese dice on their pretend ones.

TikTok Ban Updates: Supreme Court Leans Toward Upholding Ban and Shutting US TikTok Down in January
TikTok swept into the social media landscape with an enviable force. It seemed to totally capture the hearts and minds of the youngest generations among us with its addictive platform that offers you short-form video after short-form video. Even millennials are not immune to TikTok’s wiles. For some, influences and artists alike, TikTok has also been a lucrative place to grow a business and make a living. But now, the TikTok ban threatens to outlaw TikTok from the US. If the ban becomes an active law as planned, TikTok will be banned from the United States beginning on January 20. Currently, only the Supreme Court stands between the federal law being enacted and not. But what’s the state of the TikTok ban? Well, here’s the current State of the TikTok ban Union.
Quick Links:
Latest Updates on the Supreme Court’s TikTok Ban Deliberations The Current Overall State of Affairs Regarding a TikTok Shut Down
After its first day of deliberations, the Supreme Court appears to lean toward upholding the TikTok ban, but did not conclude discussions. TikTok’s lawyer Noel Francisco seemed optimistic, however, noting “This country has never taken a step of shutting down a speech platform, much less such an important speech platform. You don’t shut down a speech platform because you’re worried about speech that’s dangerous.”
The Chinese embassy meanwhile criticized the ban, noting in a statement, “The U.S. has never found evidence that TikTok threatens U.S. national security, but it has used state power and abused national security reasons to unreasonably suppress it, which is not fair or just at all. The U.S. should truly respect the principles of market economy and fair competition, stop unreasonably suppressing companies from other countries, and provide an open, fair, just and non-discriminatory environment for companies from all countries to invest and operate in the U.S.”
The Current Overall State of Affairs Regarding a TikTok Shut DownOn January 10th, the Supreme Court will hear opening arguments in the case of the TikTok ban. There’s a lot of legalese involved, but in short, TikTok and ByteDance are arguing that the TikTok ban/shutdown is unconstitutional because it violates the First Amendment rights of its 170 million users. While some Supreme Court justices acknowledge the truth of this, the opposition argument is that TikTok does not have to shut down, it simply needs to divest of its owner ByteDance. ByteDance’s ownership of TikTok is a concern to the United States government, which believes the company is using TikTok to spy on Americans for the Chinese government, as well as to spread Chinese-centric propaganda. At this point in time, the court seemingly leans toward upholding the law and allowing the TikTok ban to take effect.

On April 24, 2024, President Biden signed the TikTok divest-or-ban bill into law, which also passed in Congress. If the Supreme Court does not strike down the TikTok ban, the law will go into effect on January 20. That means the use of TikTok will be illegal in the United States, and TikTok will no longer be available at the time.

Every Streaming Cost Increase In 2025: Discovery+ Kicks Off the New Year With a Price Hike
We’ve had just about enough of streaming cost increases to last a lifetime. In 2024, we swear streamers were hiking the prices of their platforms once a week. Streaming was supposed to be the great disruptor of cable, bringing consumers more choice, a better experience, and lower costs. But in recent years, it seems like quality-of-life no longer matters for streamers, and they’d rather just tack on ads, price increases, and whatever else they can do to squeeze every last dime out of a consumer. With so many cost increases happening in streaming all the time, it can be hard to keep track of just how many are happening. But we’re here to help. This year, we’re keeping track of all the streaming cost increases and streamer price hikes that take place.

All the Streaming Price Hikes in 2025 1/7/2025 – Discovery+ Increases the Cost of its Ad-Free and Ad-Supported Plans
Seven days into 2025, we had our first streaming price increase. Discovery+ hiked its streaming costs for its ad-free and its ad-supported plans. If you’re subscribed to the streamer, here’s what you can expect. Beginning on 1/7/2025, Discovery+’s ad-supported tier increased from $4.99 to $5.99, a $1 price hike for the streamer. This is the first price hike the ad-supported Discovery+ tier has experienced since it’s launch in 2021. Meanwhile, Discovery+’s ad-free tier increased from $9.99 to $9.99, another 2025 increase of $1 per month. But it’s worth noting that in October 2023, the streamer increased its steaming costs from $6.99 to $8.99. That means in two years, the Discovery+ ad-free option increased by $3/month.

ANDOR Season 2 Is 2025’s Only Canon STAR WARS Project
Although there are many Star Wars movies currently in development and many Disney+-focused Star Wars series with constantly rumored next seasons, there is only one canon Star Wars project currently planned for 2025. Disney recently confirmed its 2025 slate, and, noticeably, the only Star Wars canon project listed on its schedule was Andor season two. In 2024, for comparison, we saw six Star Wars television series cross our path. We’ve seen reports that Disney planned to reduce its output in such a way, but after the immense amount of Star Wars series that have released in past years, it does feel a little bereft.

Still, if we had to pick just one Star Wars project to see next year—it absolutely would be Andor season two. Andor‘s second season might be the only Star Wars project on Disney’s slate for 2025, but it will surely pack the punch of many. Season one of Andor was among the best seasons of television to ever exist, Star Wars or not. And we’re still thinking about what the show had to say about revolution, freedom, hope, and heroes.
Of course, it’s worth noting that while Andor is the only canon Star Wars project coming this year, we will also see season/volume three of the animated Star Wars series, Star Wars: Visions in 2025. Volume 3 will bring us nine new animated shorts from anime studios in Japan. However, Star Wars: Visions is not considered canon to the main Star Wars universe.

We bet that by 2026, we’ll have at least a few solid Star Wars movie announcements to accompany any further television series overtures. Ahsoka has a confirmed second season in the works, so we’ll likely see that. And rumors of another season of Obi-Wan Kenobi swirl all the time. One season of television series and one Star Wars movie per year is probably more than enough to keep fans happy without overworking the IP. However, if we’re getting only one Star Wars series per year, as we are in 2025, we would encourage Disney and Lucasfilm to set their sights on powerful fare like Andor and more original stories like The Acolyte. (And we wouldn’t mind The Acolyte season two either.)

Even if the Star Wars‘ world is literally shrinking with less projects releasing every year, we’d love for it to spiritually build. In the meanwhile, we’ll look forward to our only 2025 Star Wars offering, Andor season two.
Andor season two’s official synopsis shares:
“Andor,” the acclaimed thriller, returns for its long-awaited conclusion. The twelve episodes of Season Two will carry the story of Cassian Andor and the emerging rebel alliance over the climactic four years that lead to the discovery of The Death Star and the events of “Rogue One.” Season One followed Cassian’s reluctant journey from cynical nobody to revolutionary volunteer. “Andor” Season Two will see him transform from soldier to leader to hero on the way to his epic destiny. From the very first scene, Cassian’s story has activated an ever-widening ensemble of allies and enemies. Season Two will see these relationships intensify as the horizon of galactic war draws near. Everyone will be tested and, as the stakes rise, the betrayals, sacrifices and conflicting agendas will become profound. Who will live to see their dream realized? Who will realize what that dream cost?

Venu Sports Is Dead: Disney, Warner Bros., and Fox Joint Streamer Will Not Go Forward
In May, Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery, and Fox introduced an idea for a sports streaming platform that had Nerdist calling it a cable-less cable creation. In essence, what the Disney-Fox-Warner Bros. Discovery streamer, called Venu Sports for its short existence, sought to do was recreate cable, but this time in app form. The three companies sought to combine all their sports offerings into this one platform. Only the NFL was beyond the reach of Venu Sports. It seemed like kind of an absurd suggestion to us. And it turns out we weren’t the only ones who felt that way about the platform. Before having lived to stream a sport at all, Venu Sports is officially dead and canceled. The Disney-Fox-Warner Bros. Discovery sports streaming app will not see the light of day.

Here’s what the companies had to say about their decision to scrap Venu Sports. In a statement, they shared:
After careful consideration, we have collectively agreed to discontinue the Venu Sports joint venture and not launch the streaming service. In an ever-changing marketplace, we determined that it was best to meet the evolving demands of sports fans by focusing on existing products and distribution channels. We are proud of the work that has been done on Venu to date and grateful to the Venu staff, whom we will support through this transition period.”
But what happened to make the companies scrap Venu Sports, when Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery, and Fox all seemed so confident in it before? Well, a few complicating factors. Firstly, a judge blocked the launch of Venu Sports with an injunction just before it was set to originally launch. Fubo, another sports streamer, asserted that Venu Sports “substantially lessen competition and restrain trade.” Which… yeah, that seemed true to us as well from the outside looking in. According to Variety, had Venu Sports continued to exist, they may have faced similar complaints from satellite operators DISH and DirecTV. Once again, that makes a lot of sense to us. Even without fully understanding all the technicalities, it seemed this bundle was just taking up too much sports real estate—becoming something other than just a streaming network.
RELATED ARTICLE
WB Discovery Shuts Down Classic Cartoon Streamer BoomerangBut, as it turns out, Disney settled things with Fubo on its own, agreeing to buy a 70% stake in Fubo in exchange for the company dripping its Venu Sports lawsuit. Fubo will now sell its own sports streaming services and also Hulu live-TV, which is owned by Disney. Given that Disney also owns ESPN, and now a big stake in a company that specializes in sports streaming, it seems it no long had a need for Venu Sports. Sources indicate Disney will focus on its ESPN-based offerings going forward. It seemingly plans to launch ESPN as a standalone streamer currently known as “Flagship.”
Venu Sports would also have charged its subscribers $42.99/month. That’s not the most expensive streaming service out there, but it’s definitely high… So we feel like we’re not too sad to see it go.

Oops, Amazon IS Shutting Down Freevee Now That Prime Video Has AdsWhatever comes next, for now, Venu Sports is OUT. Curiously, when the Venu Sports news first came out, many other streamer bundles were being announced, such as the Disney+, Hulu, and Max bundle and the Peacock, Netflix and Apple TV+ bundle. We wonder what the dissolution of this Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery, and Fox signals for streaming bundles going forward.
