Wind pulled at my hair, lashing the ends into my face as we made the drive back to the dorms. It was too much to talk about. My sister, Cara, had her secrets with Mr. Bones, and I had mine with Yayati. He knew about me years ago and never told Midas. It was one thing to water down a fact; it was another to completely defy the House of Midas. Why? Why would he risk it?Cara pulled the car into the Dayton Complex parking structure, pressed a button to bring the top up, and killed the engine. Cara finally broke the silence. “I’m not looking for bonding moments and giggles over hot chocolate.”“I’m not looking for that, either. A.J.’s lips pulled up in a smile along the sensitive patch of skin between my neck and shoulder. “A.J.,” I let out in a soft moan. His throaty chuckle was the only thing that could make goosebumps spring to life on my arms in 110-degree weather.
