Ready, Set, Residency

Valuable re-blog today…

Don’t miss the links in the last four paragraphs—they’re the Bold Text

How can I say “my children are driving me nuts,” but artistically?

Maybe you’ve got a dream residency. Or you’ve never been to an artist retreat, but it sounds like a great idea. There are residencies around the world at all prices, lengths, and amounts of coddling. Some feel like a new family, eating communal meals and hanging out at the swimming hole. Others are truly re...

More Conversation about Reading Challenging Books . . .

We began this conversation on September 12th… [image error]

And, I’m quite happy because it takes at least one comment to continue a discussion and we have four :-)

I feel the best approach today is to share the comments all in a row, then I’ll attempt a bit of commentary…

From Julie:

“I find books where I don’t like the main character challenging and books with loads of blood and gore; but, the most impossible books were by Proust. Good job I didn’t study literature at University. His were bound to be se...

Penguins, God, Spectacles, the Atlas, and Reading Aloud.

What a lovely re-blog today…

My big takeaway was:
“Reality and survival are not easy topics to teach children. Thank goodness there have been a host of writers who have put into words life and goodness and struggle.”

I’m sure you’ll have a takeaway of your own :-)

A Teacher's Reflections

The classroom was dark except for a few strings of twinkling lights.  It was time for chapter reading before rest time.  We started a new chapter reading book, Mr. Popper’s Penguins.  Day one is always thrill...

Blog Conversation about Reading Challenging Books . . .

Our previous discussion—about social media and search—ended on September 10th due to a lack of comments; but, it did have a five post run. [image error]

So…

In this post I’ll try to stir up interest in certain kinds of reading that can be considered “Challenging“—I probably won’t mention them all; but, that’s what comments are for :-)

First, any “categories” of Challenge I may bring up can be negative to some and positive to others.

Obviously, some reading could be challenging due to the content of the bo...

Some Thoughts on Choosing the Right Writers Conferences

Great list of considerations in today’s re-blog to help a writer narrow down exactly which conferences to attend…

BREVITY's Nonfiction Blog

hippocamp17 tee shirt - SIZEDBy Lisa Romeo

During several periods in my writing life I attended no conferences, and other times I could get to just a few, dictated by a confluence of budget, geography, travel logistics, day-job demands, family obligations. When I could attend, I had to be picky.

I came to understand that a conference will not make me a better writer or a more publish...

Continuing Even More Conversation about Which Is Better for a Writer — Social Media or Search Engines ?

[image error] This conversation has had posts on August 31stSeptember 3rd, September 5th; and, September 7th.

If social media and its related search activities are important to you, I encourage your reading all those past posts…

For those who heartily remain in the moment, permit me to briefly indicate the recent focus of this discussion on the book, Be the Gateway, by Dan Blank.

I referred to this book as:

“…the Revelation of an organic and unifying approach to Creative Promotion that is, in my mind (w...

International Literacy Day

No re-blog today…

Folks in places like Australia have already begun celebrating International Literacy Day

I’m publishing this at the very beginning of September 8th in the USA…

UNESCOUnited Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization },whose motto is “Building peace in the minds of men and women”, has a special celebratory place for its Theme for International Literacy Day“integrated approaches that simultaneously can support the development of literacy and skills, to ult...

Even More Conversation about Which Is Better for a Writer — Social Media or Search Engines ?

This conversation has had posts on August 31st, September 3rd, and September 5th… [image error]

I’ll admit, again, that the main part of the title of these posts (Which Is Better for a Writer — Social Media or Search Engines ?) has been intended to provoke discussion; yet, I’m of the mind that Social Media (which includes blogging...) and Internet Search are best used when attached, interactively.

If that concept eludes your understanding, I’d encourage you to read the three previous posts
