Searching for Meaning Inside a Tech Company’s First Bookstore

Alexander M Zoltai:

You’ve heard Amazon opened a brick-and-mortar store?

And, the books don’t have price tags—use your phone to read the digital price.

Today’s re-blog reveals much more………

Originally posted on Longreads Blog:

University Book Store—begun by students in 1900—is just up the road from University Village, and while they serve superficially different markets, it’s difficult not to see Amazon’s choice of location as yet another act of aggression toward indie bookstores, whose owners...

Is It Really Worth Being a Self-Published Author ?

I need to make my use of the term “Self-Published” clear—mostly because of another term—“Indie Author”

Pros and Cons of Indie Author

Back in 2013, in the post,“What IS An IndieAuthor?”, I quoted a question I’d askedThe Alliance of Independent Authorsconcerning something said on their site aboutmembership:

“I notice the first ‘definitive’ statement is:
‘You have self-published at least one book.’
What is ALLi’s definition of ‘self-publi...

Self-esteem, parenting, emotional love, children, selfworth

Thinking a lot about my daughter…shattered-words

She’s in her 30s now; but, growing up was very hard for her…

Thought I’d share this:

“Growing up in a childhood where the words, I love you are seldom heard affects our self-esteem and instills an aversionin children to be able to say these unfamiliar words to others. This pattern usually sets the tone for afeelingof discomfort as they grow older when it comes to havingthe ability to say those words to someone else.

What’s the #BigMagic about #ElizabethGilbert?

Back in 2012, I included a video of Elizabeth Gilbert in the post,Must Writers Suffer Melancholy, Anguish, andDepression?

Elizabeth Gilbert

I consider that video a Magic Performance

She captures Something Elusive about writing and infuses it into one’s soul

I’ve watched it more times than I can count; but, until very recently, I took no notice of her books

So, because of her most recent release and a friend giving me an A...

In All Eyes – JK.Leahy Short Story

“I watched the vulture looking at me hungrily as I lay on the ground bleeding and injured.” Two thoughts entered my mind. One, it would come for me before the day ended. Two, night would reach me before it did. I shut my eyes and prayed for the night.

“Mama! Mama! Loo...

Writers Need Feedback

Alexander M Zoltai:

Today’s re-blog is for Writers because they definitely need feedback; but, it’s also for Readers because they might just want to give feedback :-)

As my second novel, The Art of Survival, goes to press, I want to pick up again, The Art of Breathing, the third in the series. I am privileged to be part ofthe vibrant writing community locally, and I had given my draft to three of my fellow writers. They are now coming back to me with...

“Is Amazon Working to Kill Single Copy Ebook Sales?”

The quote I chose for the title of this post is from Mark Coker in an article on the Smashwords blog.

I’m bringing his article to the attention of any of my readers who are writers (or, have friends who are writers) and who might think that Amazon is the best place to sell their books

A few excerpts, beginning with the Setup:

“…Amazon quietly announcedthat because they’re pricing their Kindle Unlimited ebook subscr...

Dan Poynter - Father of Self-Publishing

Many folks who’ve self-published had never heard of Dan Poynteruntil he’d already passed from this earthly realm

I’m one of those folks—only knew of Dan’s death and his legacy because of an article in my email today from the Smashwords blog by Founder Mark Coker:Dan Poynter, The Father of Self Publishing, Passes Away

Mark’s article is worth reading in full; but, here are a few excerpts:

Two Women Writers Convince Me to Experiment on Wattpad . . .

I’ve known about Wattpad for quite awhile but let it linger in the hinterlands of my interest, with all the other wonderful, fabulous, must-engage-on spaces that writers are nearly shamed into usingWattpad

However, Orna Ross, founder of the Alliance of Independent Authors, andElizabeth S. Craig, bestselling author of the Southern Quilting mysteries and Memphis Barbeque mysteries and link-curator for the Writer’s Knowledge Base, have convinced me to use Wattpad in a very specific way.

My experiment g...
