You crushed this year’s Summer Reading

Here’s a look at this year’s Summer Reading numbers compared to last year’s:

9-4-2015 1-38-14 PM

We offered 17 percent more programs this year and you liked them, you really liked them: Attendance skyrocketed by 41 percent. Overall, our total number of participants, which includes kids, teens, and adults who logged their summer reading, blew away last year’s numbers by 13 percent.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s Summer Reading Club! We hope you found some good stories, got some sun and enjoyed a visit or two (or twenty) to our branches. Keep reading!

Back to School Reads

It’s almost time for new pencil cases, school zone enforcement, and that all-important decision: what to wear on the first day of school. Here are a few new school-related books:

Rosie Goes to Preschool

In My Humongous Hamster Goes to School by Lorna Freytag tells of a pet hamster that grows to gigantic size after eating  all of the lunches in the room. Photo collages show the enormous hamster participating in everyday school activities such as art class, recess, and lunch.
