In all seriousness, I LOVE Mariah Carey.

I even like some of her songs. One time, when I was being a fan, I practically dislocated my shoulder.

Happy New Year! (from the Mountain time zone).

I thought about buying champagne, but then I came to my senses. I fucking hate champagne. I got a six pack of beer and a bottle of cheap-ass vodka. Rock on, people…

America has always been a rowdy nation. It's vast, diverse, and unruly.

We’ve always fought with each other, even at one point killing a quarter of a million of each other. We can and should get along with each other, between rounds especially. It’s between rounds now.

We need to grasp and accept that there are those who disagree with us–and that’s ok. It doesn’t make them evil. We all believe our opinions are right, but we must remember that they are just opinions, not doctrine or dogma or scientific fact.

Lecture over. Happy New Year, you glorious bastards.

Despite the bitching I have done over the last few years, I am really going to miss Obama. This is my favorite photo of him. I think it is iconic, as iconic as the painting of George Washington crossing the Delaware. In a sense, it depicts the same thing, I think.

He’s a good man, and only 55. I’m certain he will shake things up for a long time to come. In no sense is he “done”.

Me and my brother Simon getting drunk. It’s his birthday and Christmas and I hardly ever get to see him because he’s an English teacher down in Arizona and I’m a writer up in South Dakota.

We have fabulous taste in shirts, huh? LOL.

Thomas Sowell, America's Greatest Public Intellectual, Says 'Farewell'

Thomas Sowell, America's Greatest Public Intellectual, Says 'Farewell':

I have read several of his books, all on economics. Since he is a contemporary, he is not given his due. Fifty or a hundred years from now, though…. A great philosopher/thinker who got caught up in politics, sometimes willingly, sometimes not so. I highly encourage you to check out some of his books. He’s always hated labels, but considers himself, reluctantly, to be closest to libertarianism.

“Some people are in the business of being offended, just as Campbell’s is in the business of selling soup.”

Thomas Sowell (via early-onset-of-night)

Sad to learn Mr. Sowell is retiring, but the guy’s 86. Who can blame him? I’ve been a long-time reader. Like him, I, too, was once very socialist. He helped me come to my senses. His farewell column can be found all over the place.
