"Eternal Darkness" Heroine, Layla, Demands the Spotlight!!

I love it when characters stop in for some much deserved attention.
Today, Layla, from Natalie Hancock's novel, "Eternal Darkness" is here and she's lovin' the spotlight!!
Some of you may recall Natalie Hancock, otherwise known as my very own cheeky monkey, from when she visited to celebrate her very first novel release, "Eternal Darkness", last month.
Please allow me to refresh your memory.

Layla, a twenty-one-year-old half-breed known as a dhampir,is incredibly beautiful and deadly. She drinks vampire blood for power and tostop the burning hunger. The vampire academy is a hundred acres of land surrounded byhigh tech security to ensure that none enters or leaves. She is in theprotection. When she has lessons with the vampires, she struggles withher hunger and has to learn to trust them—a big issue for Layla because of herpast, something she can neither forget nor run from. The past that haunts herdreams reminds her that she cannot hide as she lives her life in the academy. Then there is Shade—an impossibly handsome vampire andLayla's one-on-one instructor. Desires she never knew rise whenever he looks ather. She cannot stop how her body reacts to his touch or how much she wants hisbody and his blood. It is a forbidden lust that they share, one they must keep asecret from those around them or Layla risks everyone finding out who shereally is. Someone wants her dead.Layla's goals, deal with the vampires who hate dhampir's and keep herselfalive. Can she do it?Are you ready to meet her now? I am!! Welcome, Layla!! *warning* adult content
Tell us a little bit about yourworld.Myworld is full of vampires, werewolves, demons, shifters and angels.Weall live in a dark and dangerous world.Welive in a world full of constant fear as our enemies hunt us.Thehumans are smarter than us creatures of the night though. And they haveevolved, as have their weapons. They are not only able to render us unconsciouswithout killing us, but they are able to keep us alive long enough for theirsick little games. We are constantly being hunted.                      I am constantlybeing hunted.Thisis why we have a hundred acres of land for vampires. Though there is one whocan rule over most existing creatures, we cannot control them. They have theirown ways of dealing with their enemies. Ways to keep themselves alive.Wemust think of our own people.Thereare so little of us left, especially because the humans are taking out vampiresthat are not even close to adulthood. They know nothing of why the humans areattacking them. Know nothing about what they should do, should the situationcall for action.Iam not there for that reason. I know a lot. More than anyone thinks.
I am here, surrounded by vampires for my 'own protection'. I do not know howbeing there could possibly help me. I am always being haunted. Always.
Is expressing love difficult for you? Why?Expressinglove? Yes, expressing love is incredibly difficult for me.
There were times, when I was a little girl, when I would express my love ofthings naturally.Howtimes have changed.
Seven years, and I have never expressed my love to anything, or anyone. Notthat I remember. I always felt that there was someone, someone who I couldlove--but he is a figment of my imagination, to escape the nightmares hauntingmy every move. To escape reality.
Seven years, and when I felt desires I had never felt before from the simplesttouch of a vampire, I react badly.*Chuckles*Iwould think that says it all. The mere thought of getting close to expressingthat particular desire seems daunting, even if I cannot stop my body fromreacting to the sound of his voice… his touch…
What motivates you to continue onthese adventures?Revenge…I wish nothing more than to seek revenge on those who ruined my life.Freedom…I wish nothing more than to be free from my hunger, and the nightmares hauntingme day and night. Free from those hunting me, those who wish to see me gone.
Have you ever lost control?Toomany times…Ihave done things in my life I wish I could go back and change.Somany lives lost… So many innocent people killed…Allto please the hunger raging inside…
What was the best sexual experienceyou've had?ThoughI have had only two lovers in my past, they cannot compare to Shade. I cannoteven remember my first lover and though I remember my second lover clearly, sheis not worth remembering.Yes,I enjoyed both female and male.Shade…His Voice is like silk, his touch like a feather caressing my entire body. Hecan make me feel things that my human lover never could.
And that is with our clothes on.Itried to resist. It is a forbidden lust we share and I have too many secretsthat will be exposed… But the lure of his voice was too strong. I could notresist.Thefirst time I tasted him… *Chuckles* Seems I am not the only one who feels suchstrong emotions, put it that way. The feel of him… The taste… It is hard toresist and I wanted, and will always want more. Thefirst time I allowed him to touch me… It is hard to explain. It was as though amillion volts of pleasure shooting through me. Every nerve ending was alightwith fire. I have no control of the feelings he makes me feel.
The first time we had sexual intercourse… His touch alone could bring mepleasure unlike anything I had felt… But when he was kissing me? Tasting me andinside me? Now I most definitely cannot explain that feeling.Trythis… Imagine finding someone, and at first glance, you cannot lookaway. Imagine looking at that person and feelings you have not felt beforecourse through your body. Imagine that with just a word, just a breath, you'reovercome with all of those emotions, and you're unable to control how your bodyreacts, how your mind reacts. You want that person so badly, you would kill forthem, no matter who the person.Imagine that person touchingyou, and making your body react so strongly, you feel as though you're going toexplode. Imagine feeling hunger, for both body and, in my case, blood, likeyou've never imagined, and when you taste them, you cannot stop, you want moreof them, and then imagine drinking their blood…*Chuckles* Do I haveyour blood boiling yet? That is how I feel when Shade and I are together.

Ashlynne Laynne: The Birth of a Novelist

Every once in a while I have the pleasure of introducing a 'new to me' author who just may be a 'new to the world' author as well. Recently, I had that opportunity again when Ashlynne Laynne dropped by and shared a little about her new release, The Progeny. Fortunately for us, she's back, and this time her muse has inspired her to open up and tell us even more about herself and how The Progeny came to be. As a writer, I can certainly appreciate the creative process in which my muse chooses to communicate. I have been blessed and it's not something I, or any other author, takes lightly.Ashlynne Laynne certainly hasn't taken her muse lightly and she wanted to share her journey with all of us. I'm thrilled to place  Sealed with a Kiss in her capable hands today. I hope you will all stick around and get to know her more. And what better way to start than with a reminder of her novel, The Progeny...
"Nofate other than the one I choose." The timeless creed, and tattoo, bore by theRousseau's— a vampire clan with the purest bloodline of any vampire family. Outof this clandestine group came one who was different, yet the same: Ascher - ahalf-bloodling— half- human, half vampire.            Ascher questions the purpose for his existence and which world he trulybelongs to: the human world or the vampire world. Two months from sealing toUrsula— a prearranged union to a woman he abhors — he's at his wit's end. Heknows if he calls off the sealing, the Romanian clan will strike with deadlyforce, but he cannot see eternity with a cold empty shell of a woman likeUrsula.            Just when he thought life was complicated enough, he meets Shauna— a beautiful,bi-racial human Wiccan — and immediately develops an unshakable attraction toher. She makes him feel alive and vital despite his origins and Ascher makes adecision that turns his immortal world upside down.

Praise for TheProgeny...

Take it away Ashlynne...
I was eight years old when I placedthird in an Optimist Oratorical Contest on Freedom in America. I accepted myshiny gold pin, read my award winning speech and marveled at how everyone hungon my every word. It was the first time I realized the power of my words. A writer was born.My rebellious teenage years were spentwriting poetry as a sort of therapy. I dabbled in the occasional Danielle Steelnovel, never realizing that I wasn't exactly the target audience for thatparticular genre. This early exposure to such salacious material was the markedbeginning of my love of romance novels. I fell in and out of love, had a kidand went through many emotional changes in my twenties. The one constant wasalways my love of poetry and the written word. And although I lost my faith intrue love, that didn't stop me from writing about it. Some of my best lovepoetry actually occurred when my heart was at its most broken and fragile. The promise and possibility of findingthat one person that completes your heart spurred a fire, in me, to write aboutwhat I was almost certain didn't exist. I took my love of writing a stepfurther and appeared in several anthologies and poetic compilations. I lovedthat so much that I took to publishing a book of my original work under anotherpen name. While stretching my creative muscles, I ventured into songwriting. Itwas much like poetry set to music. Minding the rhythm and meter of music, andwriting words to fit, presented an awesome challenge. With the benefit of hindsight, Iattribute my songwriting to grooming me for the task of taking an idea andcharacters and immersing them in a world that takes a shape of its own. Writersuse their words, the varying of sentence structure and pacing to illicitemotions from readers. So what—you might ask—possessed apoet/songwriter to consider writing a novel?Several factors...The Progeny wasn't the first novel Iever wrote, even though it is my first release. My first novel had a goodconcept and characters but it was lacking in technique. I wrote two books ofthe series before I abandoned it for something else.I've always loved vampires, witches andthe horror genre. My next endeavor would encompass my two horror loves. WithStephen King as my favorite author, this shouldn't be a shock. Fast forward six years from mysongwriting. Now I'm in a better place. I've somehow pinned the elusive cupiddown and convinced him to give me another shot at corralling love. He obligedand sent me my hubby, Mark. Now I've got the love thing down and honestlybelieve that it exists. What's next?October, 6 2010 started like any otherday. I woke up, went to work and came home. I was tired so I took a nap thatday. This is where it gets interesting. I dreamed about a gorgeous guy. He haddark hair, the weirdest blue eyes and a strange necklace around his neck. WhenI woke up, I immediately began sketching that necklace. I'm no artist but I hadto admit that what I came up with was interesting. The pieces of my story line slowlygelled. I researched witches, witchcraft and the Salem witch trials the nextday. When I slept the next night, I dreamed about him again but this time Idreamed his name—Ascher. Now that my guy had a name, he needed a love. I'vealways loved the name Shawnette. So I shortened it and made it Shauna. October 8, 2010 was the day that literallychanged my life. Surrounded by a stack of witch research, the vision of Ascher,Shauna's name and sketches of a unique amulet, I decided to write a home forthese two characters. I never considered myself patient enough to write a novel, but the characters wouldn't leave me alone.I dreamed about them, thought aboutthem and imagined different scenarios for them until my idea was 115,000 words.Shauna did the most changing during the process because I didn't dream her inthe beginning. Her physical appearance and origins evolved until she wasexactly who Ascher needed. I was ecstatic when I finally dreamed themtogether because I knew that it was finally right.I fell in love with their story andfelt their pain. I laughed when they laughed and cried when Shauna cried. Theybecame my babies. My husband and I often joke that we talk about them so muchthat they should occupy rooms in our home. Almost a year—to the date—that Istarted writing these characters, J.E. Taylor at Novel Concept Publishingaccepted my manuscript and confirmed what I already knew. Like love, the rightpublisher is out there that will believe in your work and push you to bebetter. There was something there in the pagesof that Word document. She now believed as much as I did. That was only the start of my journey. The first manuscript that she saw and what the reader actually reads is verydifferent. I eventually added three chapters to my manuscript to explainAscher's existence and to deepen Ursula's character. In the end, I think The Progeny offersthe reader a different view of vampires. Though I love vampires, I've beendisappointed at how common their portrayals have become. I think it's time theworld experiences a new breed of vampire. In closing, and in lieu of an excerpt,I'd like to leave you with my original poem from The Progeny. Books one and twoboth feature my poetry as the epilogue. I wrote this poem back in 2007—before Iever thought about writing a novel. My bestie tells me that this poem'sexistence is proof that The Progeny was my destiny.I tend to agree.
BlessedEternity Envelop me in the sweet darkness of your burning lightSpin me into a web of your eternal delightMake me yours for all to seeCover me in kisses sweet with sinful pleasureTransform me so that I may be yours foreverMake me yours for all to seeI am not longed for the duties of this worldNor do I wish to be just an ordinary girlMake me yours for all to seeOne day with you is worth a thousand foreversIf this is the only way for us to be togetherMy soul is a mere formalityMeet me when the shadows replace the lightIn the sweet darkness of the eternal nightGive me blessed eternity
About Ashlynne: AshlynneLaynne has always had a soft spot in her heart for vampires but grew tired ofthe garlic fearing, sun loathing creatures of old. An avid horror movie fan,she tends to enjoy media and music that is of a younger, more eclectic nature. This was the catalyst for her writing The Progeny. The vampire/witch pairing isunique and different when most books pair vampires with werewolves. Theinfinite possibilities, for such a wickedly unique couple, intrigued her. Thereis no shortage of romance, steam and surprises in The Progeny. These books arefor adults and contain adult sensuality and themes, but minimal profanity. Sheloves writing on the edge and teetering between the erotica and romance genres. She thinks of Ascher and Shauna as the damned version of Romeo and Juliet. She'scurrently working on book two of the series entitled Blood Bonds. In her sparetime, Ashlynne enjoys cooking, reading and spending time with her family.Ashlynne juggles the hats of wife, mother, full time employee and part-time writer, hoping to write full time one day soon.Ashlynnelives in North Carolina with her husband and teenage son.
About The Progeny  At its core, The Progenyis simply a story about a man and woman who fall in love, and the fact thathe's a half-blood (half-human, half vampire) and she's a Wiccan human aresecondary factors. In the beginning, of the book, Ascher is grumpy. Frankly, who could blame him? He's engaged to seal to Ursula—a cold and careless vampirewho wants nothing more than to get her hands on a bloodstone— and he feelsconflicted about his existence. All of that changes when he meets ShawnetteMcCutchin. She's beautiful, intriguing and possesses some of the most potentblood that he's ever smelled. A war immediately begins inside Ascher. He cravesShauna's blood just as much as he craves her body and the closer they get, theharder it is for him to control his urges. After Ascher calls off the sealingto Ursula, the trouble begins. His family's peaceful period ends when Ursula'sarmy attacks the Rousseaus. Kidnapping, some steamy love scenes between ourhero and heroine and Wiccan rage complete the plot.

Welcome Author Allison Merritt

Welcome back, everyone! Today I have the pleasure of introducing author, Allison Merritt and her novel, The Treasure Hunter's Lady.
A treasure hunter? Now that sounds like an adventure, but a far cry from any treasure hunt I would ever experience... unless of course you consider accompanying my mom as she makes a mad dash for the nearest garage sale... now there's a heart stopper for you. I have a feeling this novel will be a little different that that. As different as the author who penned it. A life-long love of reading turned Allison Merritt into an indie author who writes historical, paranormal and fantasy romances, often combining the sub-genres. She lives in a small town in the Ozark Mountains with her husband and dogs. When she's not writing or reading, she hikes in national parks and conservation areas.Allison graduated from College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Missouri with a B.A. in mass communications that's gathering dust after it was determined that she's better at writing fluff than hard news.
I, for one, am glad she's so talented when it comes to writing fluff, we kind of prefer it here at Sealed with a Kiss!!Let's take a look at some of Allison's work now... The Treasure Hunter's Lady
For years,Romy Farrington traveled at her world-famous archeologist father's side, exploring new lands and uncovering ancient secrets. It was everything she everwanted, until a near-fatal encounter with hostile natives forced her and herfather into a life of retirement in Boston and an undesired advance into propersociety.Everythingchanges again when she's saved from an accident by a brash Texan in a backalley. Abel Courte may act like a care-free cowboy, but he's harboring asecret—he's searching for the Diamond of Uktena, a legendary jewel that cancure any disease known to man. He needs information Romy's father has in order toget to the jewel. When he traces the origin of the Diamond to Dakota Territory,he sets off to claim the treasure, only to find the archeologist's fieryredheaded daughter stuck to him like a bug in sap.In a raceagainst time, Romy and Abel must learn to trust each other as they undertake across-country journey that will expose them to lands uncharted by white men, adeadly battle against the fearsome creature in possession of the Diamond and afight to return to civilization where they might make the greatest discovery ofall—love.
Excerpt:Romy's eyes locked on Abel's necklace. "What'sthat around your neck? A fossil of some sort?"His hand flew to the pendant and stuffed it backdown his collar. "Nothing.""As someone who's seen a lot of nothing, I cantell you without a doubt it's something. Full of secrets, aren't we, Abel?"Blue eyes widened then narrowed, as she lookedbetween him and the maps he'd lifted out of the drawer. Her coyness fell awaylike leaves in the fall. "You're a treasure hunter. You found out that Papa isgoing to search for the Diamond of Uktena, but you plan to steal it first.""Why would I want to steal a—" He gave up thepretense. "First of all, it isn't stealing if it isn't in anyone's possession.Second, I'm not a treasure hunter.""It is stealing if you're going to sell apriceless artifact to the highest bidder on the black market."Abel frowned. "I don't need a lecture from somelittle chit whose daddy is the biggest treasure hunter in the world."Romy poked a finger into his chest. "Take itback. He's an archeologist and an adventurer. When he finds valuables he turnsthem over to the proper authorities."He pushed her finger away. "I'll bet you athousand dollars he's not going to do it this time."Her eyes narrowed into slits, half-hidden behinda thick fringe of lashes. "You're wrong.""It would be the biggest discovery of our time.Of any time. It's no mere gem, no ornament to put on a shelf.""I have some knowledge of the Diamond," shedefended. The admission was too nonchalant. Had merecuriosity led her to follow him?He patted the fang inside his shirt. "I doubtanyone could put a price on its worth, but there are those willing to try."She stared at him dubiously. "Because it'ssupposed to come from a mythical serpent?"He debated telling her. It wouldn't benefit Romyto know what he was doing. After tonight it was unlikely he'd see her again."Ask your father. He might know more than I do.I have to leave now. I'd appreciate it if you kept our little rendezvousquiet."He snatched up the papers, flashed a grin andstarted for the door. The rustle of skirts alerted him that she was rightbehind him, but he didn't slow down. Not until a cold metal barrel pressedagainst the center of his neck."Stay where you are."Romy's voice was hard and all business. Abelraised his hands. She drew the gun back and came around to face him. The pistolwas no little thing, not the type a dainty female would carry for protection.Romy was a woman of many facets, like the fabled Diamond."I can't give you the fang.""I have the feeling it's an intricate detail inyour mission, Mr. Courte."He sighed. "I don't know for certain.""Tell me what you do know.""The fang is solid proof that Uktena exists."She frowned. "And who is Uktena exactly?""Uktena isn't your typical serpent. Rumor has itthat this sparkly rock stuck in its forehead can bring power and riches towhoever wields it. Better still, the Diamond cures illnesses. Any disease youcan think of."

I LOVE a man in uniform!!

[image error] FYI: Tyler Robbins is my pseudonym
While doing research for my current work in progress titled, "Beyond His Honor", I started thinking... I know, that can be dangerous, but hey, some risks are worth taking and as long a nobody is injured or maimed, it's all good, right? "Beyond His Honor" will be a romance, like no other I've ever undertaken, simply because it involves our Nation's military and the different types of people serving. It will be the first time I write a story based on the recently withdrawn military policy of "Don't ask, Don't tell". I won't be arguing political or moral opinions on the subject because I'm a romance author, not a political or religious commentator. I'll simply do what I do and tell a love story. My research brought up a statement I've heard people say and one I've said dozens of times myself: "I LOVE a man in uniform!"

Elvis Presley 1958I'm not sure what it is that draws us in. Perhaps it's the age old idea of the gallant "knight in shining armor" we expect to ride in and save the day, save the girl, or hell, just ride in period, so we can gawk at him. My mother was in love with one soldier, though I'm sure it had less to do with his uniform and more to do with his naughty gyrating hips. I'm not going to get into the details of it all or whether or not he actually saw combat. I'm here to talk about that uniform and how it effects us on a more primal level.

David James Elliot in "JAG" (TV)
Whether it's on television, the silver screen or even in a magazine, there's something about the military premise alone that demands attention.
For me, it symbolizes a sense of strength and honor, not to mention the fact that upon first sight, I instantly feel safer. As a woman, my basic instinct naturally draws me to that kind of man. I'm not saying that's the only kind of man I'm drawn to, I'm merely pointing out that a man in uniform generally does it for me more often than not. In a way, the uniform transforms a man into something more, something greater, something admirable. But is it the uniform that makes the man or the man that makes the uniform? Perhaps both.  To me, I think a man naturally has the "right stuff" based on how he was raised, his moral beliefs, and his ability to stand alone and face adversity with his head held high and his mind focused on what lies ahead.

Richard Gere/Debra Winger in "An Officer and a Gentleman" 1982Can a uniform alone do that? No, not literally, but it can add that "it" factor to push the already valiant hero over the top, and if he wears that uniform like a suit of armor, nothing can stand in his way. And when it comes to love? LOOK OUT!! I think "An Officer and a Gentleman" proved that there is noting sexier than a soldier in love!

Tom Cruise- "A Few Good Men"Unless you consider a soldier standing up for what he thinks is right.
The determination in a man's eye when he fights for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.... yeah, that's sexy as hell.  Movies, books, television shows...they offer us the dramatic story... the whole package... the polished shoes, the crew cuts, 'the smell of napalm in the morning', but more importantly, they keep our minds on the real heroes that are hunkered down in some trench dug in the desert sand. They remind us that somewhere out there a soldier keeps watch... a man or woman wears a uniform for more than a role they're playing in a movie. They wear that uniform for a reason... to protect and serve their nation, whether it be the US, Canada, England, Australia or every other nation standing for freedom, democracy and the rights of all people; rich, poor, educated, illiterate, Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Agnostic, Atheist, Gay, Lesbian, Straight... the list goes on and on.

Channing Tatum in "StopLoss"  2008

Bottom line: They represent and  stand for us ALL. They unselfishly leave their families behind. Wives, husbands, parents and children make sacrifices everyday for every peace loving individual on the planet. So you see, the uniform is so much more than tailored coats with shiny medals pinned on the lapel. So much more than the stripes on the sleeve, or the shine of the boot. A man or woman in a uniform is so much more than their "dress blues" or their more commonly recognized camouflage "combat uniform". They are heroes in their own right and they have a voice, whether it be the battle cry of a mighty "Hoorah"  or the cadence of a united march. The Proud! The Brave! The Warrior!2012 will be a big year for me and I'll be writing more about characters who protect and serve. Some will be military and some will be police officers, but you can rest assured that they will all represent the basic premise of good conquering evil. I hope you will join me as I take this journey. Be warned though, there will be lots of love and romance going on, after all, that IS what I do best.

Welcome Zrinka Jelic

I love when new authors stick their heads in for a visit... so please help me give Zrinka Jelic a warm, Sealed with a Kiss welcome!!
Zrinka Jelic lives in Ontario, Canada, with her husband and two children. A member of the Romance Writers of America and its chapter Fantasy Futuristic & Paranormal, as well as Savvy Authors, she writes contemporary fiction—which leans toward the paranormal—and adds a pinch of history. Her characters come from all walks of life, and although she prefers red, romance comes in many colors.
Given Jelic's love for her native Croatia and the Adriatic Sea, her characters usually find themselves dealing with a fair amount of sunshine, but that's about the only break they get. "Alas," Jelic says, with a grin. "Some rain must fall in everyone's life."
Well that may be true, but let's hope this lovely author's path has more clear, blue skies than not, on her journey through the publishing world.
      Welcome, Zrinka!!

Thank you,Robin, for having me here today as your guest. My debut novel "Bonded byCrimson" has been released on January 28th, and it is available inall formats at Black Opal Books, Amazon,Smashwords, Barnes& Noble and AllRomance eBooks
Love isn't in the cards for her…
After her short failed marriage, Kate tries to rebuild her life and takes a position as a nanny to three small boys. She quickly grows to love them, but their father, terrifies her, while igniting a passion she didn't know she possessed. Disturbed by his distant manner with his sons, Kate struggles to make him more involved in the boys' daily lives. Her efforts are mysteriously supported by an entity that cannot really exist. Or can she? And if she does exist, is she really trying to help Kate, or just take over her body?
But when he deals the hand, all bets are off…
Six years after his beloved wife passed away, Matthias is still trying to become the father she wanted him to be. Not an easy task for a three-centuries-old immortal. His search for the ultimate nanny ends when Kate Rokov stumbles to his home and into his arms. The immediate attraction he feels for her seems like a betrayal of his dead wife, a love he's harboured for over three hundred years. But when Kate is stalked by a deadly stranger, life he clung to in the past begins to crumble and break down. Can Matthias learn to trust and to love again in time to save his family from disaster, or will his stubborn pride destroy everything worth living for?
EXCERPT
He claimed tobe immortal, but that was ridiculous...wasn't it?
Kate's heart hammered. The experience seemed soreal. A low moan escaped her and she bit her lip. Soon warmth surged throughher, causing her body to go limp. Her legs gave way underneath her, butMatthias—or whoever this man claimed to be now—wrapped his arm around herwaist. His sweet, musky scent clung to her. Ecstasy filled her and she felt asif she hovered in the air. If he intended to kill her like this, she couldimagine no better way to die. A voice echoed through her mind, speaking ofundying love in centuries old Croatian."Wake up," he whispered close to her ear, hisstrong arms still locked around her."I don't want to." Her head wobbled, exuberantwith sheer happiness, a kind she had never experienced before."You must." He stroked her hair with tenderfingers. "Wake up now.""No. I want to stay like this. Forever." Shefocused on his handsome face staring at her through her haze. His smooth cheek brushed against hers. "Me too,but you must wake."The fog lifted and his image appeared, clearlynow. She blinked once. Twice. What had happened? She pushed away from him andflattened her back against the wall."You, you—""You," he said, pointing at her, "asked forproof."

Welcome Author Ashlynne Laynne

It's been crazy in the real world lately, so I hope you found other ways to keep yourselves entertained since my last post. If you've indulged in a few romance novels or two, then I'm sure you hardly noticed I was gone.       I'm thrilled you're here now and so happy you'll be able to help me welcome a new author to Sealed with a Kiss, Ashlynne Laynne!       AshlynneLaynne has always had a soft spot in her heart for vampires but grew tired ofthe garlic fearing, sun loathing creatures of old. An avid horror movie fan,she tends to enjoy media and music that is of a younger, more eclectic nature. This was the catalyst for her writing The Progeny. The vampire/witch pairing isunique and different when most books pair vampires with werewolves.       The infinite possibilities, for such awickedly unique couple, intrigued her. There is no shortage of romance, steamand surprises in The Progeny. These books are for adults and contain adultsensuality and themes, but minimal profanity. She loves writing on the edge andteetering between the erotica and romance genres. She thinks of Ascher andShauna as the damned version of Romeo and Juliet.       She's currently working on book two of theseries entitled Blood Bonds. In her spare time, Ashlynne enjoys cooking, reading and spending time with her family. Ashlynne juggles the hats of wife, mother, full time employee and part-time writer, hoping to write full time oneday soon.      Ashlynnelives in North Carolina with her husband and teenage son.
Thank you for coming, Ashlynne. I have tons of questions for you, so let's get to it!!
How did you feel when you got your firstpublishing contract?Ashlynne:I was elated.
How do you categorize yourself: pantser orplotter?Ashlynne:I'm a little of both. I always start out with an outline—that may or may nothold up. Depending on my dreams (yes, I dream scenes and situations thatusually become parts of my books), the developments within a scene and even thetype of music I'm listening to could change a scene or the direction of a book.
What is the biggest piece of your adviceyou can give a beginning writer?Ashlynne:Write every day even you don't feel like it.
Do you have any guilty pleasures?Ashlynne:(sigh) Okay, okay, if you're going to force it out of me...I love watchingLifetime movies in my pajamas, but shhh...let's just keep that between us.
What influences your writing? And why?Ashlynne:Anything at any point in time could change a plot or the direction of a scene.I'm so obsessive that I have notebooks and pens strategically placed throughoutmy home. You just never know when an idea might hit you and you have to beready. I also keep a notebook on my bedside table for when my characters houndme in my sleep.
Name one thing readers don't know aboutyou.Ashlynne:I've written country music and I'm a poet. The epilogues of The Progeny and itssequel are my original work. If you think about it, the rhyme and meter thatsometimes exists in poetry is also evident in writing.
What are you working on now?Ashlynne:I'm working on the second and third books in my Progeny Series.
Who is your favorite all-time author?Ashlynne:Stephen King, without a doubt.
Are love scenes easy/difficult to write?Ashlynne:They were at first but the more I write the more comfortable I am with them. Ijoke with my husband that by the time I end the series I'll be a full blownerotica writer.
Do you write in one genre or severaldifferent ones? And why?Ashlynne:I'm doing paranormal romance and straddling the erotica fence. An earlier, unpublished, work of mine was Christian Romance. I can't imagine what apublisher, who might've taken that on, would think of my latest work. I'vealways loved anything having to with vampires and witches so it was natural forme to take a stab at my two favorite fantasy beings.
Do you have another career besides writing? What is it?Ashlynne:I write part-time and have worked, for the last fourteen years, full time for amajor power company here in the states.
To date, which is your favorite story?Which one did you have the most fun writing?Ashlynne:The Progeny is my first published novel but I feel very close to thesecharacters.
*Whipped Cream, Strawberry Sauce orChocolate Syrup? Ashlynne:Hmmm...They're all delicious but if I have to choose just one, I'll choose thechocolate sauce. Whipped cream is not ideal and melts too quickly (surely, weall know this).
*What is the craziest/sexiest thing youhave ever done in public?Ashlynne:Sorry to disappoint folks, but I'm not an exhibitionist.  Or let me rephrase that, I haven't been inthe past. In the interest of research, I may be persuaded to experiment. Checkback with me later and I may have new info for you!Now for a little peek at Ashlynne's novel, The Progeny!!
TheProgeny Blurb           "No fate other than the one Ichoose." The timeless creed, and tattoo, bore by the Rousseau's— a vampire clanwith the purest bloodline of any vampire family. Out of this clandestine groupcame one who was different, yet the same: Ascher - a half-bloodling— half-human, half vampire.             Ascher questions the purpose forhis existence and which world he truly belongs to: the human world or thevampire world. Two months from sealing to Ursula— a prearranged union to awoman he abhors — he's at his wit's end. He knows if he calls off the sealing, the Romanian clan will strike with deadly force, but he cannot see eternitywith a cold empty shell of a woman like Ursula.             Just when he thought life wascomplicated enough, he meets Shauna— a beautiful, bi-racial human Wiccan — andimmediately develops an unshakable attraction to her. She makes him feel aliveand vital despite his origins and Ascher makes a decision that turns hisimmortal world upside down.
About The Progeny:    At itscore, The Progeny is simply a story about a man and woman who fall in love, andthe fact that he's a half-blood (half-human, half vampire) and she's a Wiccanhuman are secondary factors. It started as research about the Salem witchtrials, some rough sketches of a special family heirloom that my guys wouldwear and two names—Ascher and Shauna. In the beginning, of the book, Ascher isgrumpy. Frankly, who could blame him? He's engaged to seal to Ursula—a cold andcareless vampire who wants nothing more than to get her hands on a bloodstone—and he feels conflicted about his existence.       Allof that changes when he meets Shawnette McCutchin. She's beautiful, intriguingand possesses some of the most potent blood that he's ever smelled. A warimmediately begins inside Ascher. He craves Shauna's blood just as much as hecraves her body and the closer they get, the harder it is for him to controlhis urges. After Ascher calls off the sealing to Ursula, the trouble begins. His family's peaceful period ends when Ursula's army attacks the Rousseaus.Kidnapping, some steamy love scenes between our hero and heroine and Wiccanrage complete the plot.

EXCERPT:Ascherpulled Shauna behind him, his stance clearly a protective one. But why-?Surely, she didn't need protection from her. His grip tightened around her arm,his knuckles straining with tension. Her mind finally registered his firm holdand sent messages to her heart and eyes.Shewiggled away from him. "Let go of me, Ash! What's wrong with you? Who is she?""I'mfine and she's nobody. Ursula was just leaving." He spoke with littleconviction."Thehell I am…" the stranger mumbled, an unsavory smirk turning up the corners ofher mouth. "Tell her, Ascher. Tell her who I really am!""Yeah,Ascher," Shauna spoke in a mocking tone, her eyes becoming pieces of wet coalin narrow sockets. "Why don't you tell me the truth…who is she?"Hefroze, his youthful face chiseled with a mixture of shock, horror and anger."There's something you need to know.""Spitit out, Ascher. Tell her! Or I will!" Ursula growled, her hands flicking theshades away from her face.Terror, worse than any horror movie Shauna had ever seen. More ghastly than any monstera mind could conjure.Shaunaclutched her chest, stepping away from both of them. "Her eyes!" she screamed."Ascher…what's wrong with her eyes?"Thestranger giggled and continued piercing her demonized stare into Shauna. Ascherstruggled to control his mounting anger. He clutched Shauna closer. "Do youtrust me?"Thefloor vibrated underneath their feet. Shauna's eyes became cold, the glare ofdistrust swimming in them."No.I don't! Why are you so nervous?""Youleft Katy alone. You should go back up with her. I'll be up there in a littlewhile. Okay?""No.I want to know who she is. Right now, Ascher! Who…is…she?""Please,Shauna,"— he huffed with impatience— "just do it.""Forcryin' out loud…" Ursula groaned."Iwarned you, Ursula," he growled, every part of him aching to rip her to shreds. She had nerve. Were he not a gentleman, he'd finish her and be done with it."Youdon't warn me. Looks like you've been keeping a lot from her. Afraid she mightnot want you if she knows the real you?"Hislips strained against clenched teeth, begging to curl up and release a menacingsnarl. Control— He had to stay in control. Push the anger back down. Stem theraging desire to lash out at Ursula.Herred eyes narrowed, the smirk taunting him, daring him to expose himself. He wasstrong in his gifts, but rage made her stronger. Her mind turned, fighting offthe subliminals he hurled at her.Shecackled, "That won't work, dearest. It's time she knows everything.""Dearest?"Shauna questioned, her tiny fists balling.Ascherreached for Shauna but she moved away from him."Don'ttouch me!""Ursula, doing this won't change things between us," he uttered, knowing she'd neverlisten to reason."No!She deserves to know the truth, Ascher," Ursula responded."Ursula, please—" He couldn't believe he was begging her for anything.Ignoringhis pleading, she continued, "My name is Ursula. Ascher and I are to seal intwo days."Shaunadrew in a staggered breath. "Seal— as in marriage?"Aschersighed."Isthis true?" Shauna demanded.Hishead dropped in shame. "Yes, but…""Soshe is your fiancée? And let me guess, she's the first.""Shauna,I can explain." Shaunaclutched her head with both hands screaming, "No!" The window, behind her, cracked. She ran towards the door, fresh tears flooding her face. Aschergrabbed at her, missing. "No!" she shouted again. The ceiling rumbled, waterraining down from the sprinklers. "Move!" she shouted, pointing towards thedoor. It flew open, nearly ripping off its hinges. Ascher appeared in front ofher. She scowled then pushed him back. "Go away!" she yelled then watched as anunseen force moved him from her path. She turned, backing away from both ofthem, her eyes fixated on the two. Her finger twirled then pointed at each ofthem. "Stay!""Ihope you're happy now," he growled at Ursula then sprinted after Shauna, catching her before she hit the stairs. He clutched her, turning her to him.Distress blanketed her face. "Shauna please, just let me explain."Astrange burn started in her legs. What's happening to me? She'd had rage issuesall her life but never anything like this. Her normally clear eyesight was nowblurry and grey. The hall—she'd seen for three months and knew like the back ofher hand—became an unfamiliar maze, veiled by her fuzzy vision.Shetook a step, stumbled then regained her balance against the wall."Itold you how important honesty was to me and you've been keeping this from methe whole time. You told me she was nobody… that it was only physicalcuriosity. It doesn't look that way to me. She talks like she owns you. Youtold me it was over between the two of you. How were you going to cover up gettingmarried to someone else?""Iwasn't, just listen to me..."Sheshook her head. "I've listened enough. I can't trust you. Without trust, wehave nothing. All you've done is feed me lies. You're a liar! I despise liars!I can't believe I was going to sleep with you—allow you to be my first." Shegripped her stomach and doubled over. "I'm going to be sick…"Hereached for her, again."Don'ttouch me!" Every ounce of restraint left her body. Chaos now flooded her brain. She wanted to lash out. No, she needed to lash out."Shauna.Just let me take you home. I promise I'll explain things to you.""Whatpart of, 'I don't want to hear your lies'— don't you understand?" she seethedthrough clenched teeth, her anger blazing directly into him. "Back…!" shebarked, pushing her hands away from her body, towards him. He flew back againstthe wall. "I don't want to hear it! Don't touch me, Ascher," she sobbed intoher hands, "I hate you. I wish I'd never met you!""Shauna…?"he whispered, pain and disbelief creasing his face."Justleave me alone. I never want to see you again.""Shaunayou don't….""Ohyes I do— I mean it and I quit! I can't work here anymore."Sheran out the emergency exit, setting off the door alarm, sprinting—into thenight.* * * * * *Ashlynneappreciates and loves to hear from her readers. My Multi-Tasking Muse

People often ask me where I find inspiration or where my ideas come from and it's often the same answer across the board. The characters come to me in the form of a conversation played out in my head or even as simple as visualizing a passionate kiss.
After I've started writing the story, I like to play around with how I see the characters as though they were already on the covers of the novels which will eventually tell their story. There's a long gap between initial concept of a story and when that tale appears between the pages of a book (or e-book where my novels are concerned), so I like to use a little visual creativity to keep my muse flowing as a story progresses.     I've even made a page on this blog to share some of those muses in the form of book covers. I've found that making them calms me and helps strengthen the bond I already have with each character I write.    Sharing the characters and a little blurb about their story may even help others understand what goes through an authors mind, well this authors mind anyway, long before they actually get to read what I've written.     Enjoy!!
[image error] BLURB: A serial killer is on the loose targeting young female singers in Houston. The special victim's task force has a lead, but the next singer they believe to be on the killer's list, refuses protection.Undercover detective, Scott Diamond, is the only one who can get close enough to keep Ronnie Layne safe without alerting the killer.Forced to hide out at Scott's grandparent's farm, will he be able to keep her out of harm's way, or will Ronnie's stubborn streak lead her straight into the path of certain death. When protecting your heart is just as dangerous as protecting a life!!
This one came to me from the point of view of the hero, Scott Diamond. Often, the first scene in the book is actually how the story begins in my head and this one is a prime example of that. 10,000 words into it, this cover keeps the fire alive and helps me focus on the direction I want to go. So far so good.
[image error] Family Ties: The concept of this one is so new and fresh I haven't even written a blurb for it yet. Another prime example of how differently each story manifests itself and how my muse interprets it. I can share with you a little bit of the scene that presented itself in the imaginary world where all my stories are born:PrologueCrouched on the floor between two dry-rotted pews, Tegan Blaid protectively clutched her stomach and kept a fearful watch of the old church doors. The relentless tightening of her stomach muscles only confirmed what she already knew. Her baby was coming soon, no matter how many wolves gathered outside, sniffing at the doors."Just a little while longer." She massaged the hardened bulge extending from just under her ribcage. "You're a fighter just like your daddy, aren't you?" Licking dried, cracked lips, she tried to swallow away the ball of air lodged in the back of her throat.Crying wasn't an option. Not now. Not ever. The pack just outside the door wouldn't kill her, they wouldn't dare, but they wouldn't rest until they brought her home either. Their alpha, Aiden, had made that quite clear. Tegan was to be returned to the pack unharmed. Nothing was to get in their way and that included the father of her unborn child. She drew in a deep breath and bit back a whimper as the pain intensified with a gripping contraction. "Hurry, Tucker," she begged under her breath.Tegan peered through the broken stained-glass window above the dilapidated altar. Escaping under the cover of darkness would be her only advantage. Time was running out and if she didn't get help soon, her baby would be born in the middle of a battle she couldn't fight alone.
As you can see, for me, there is no set formula.     Next is another example and once again, the concept, genre and setting are nothing like any other I've written. In fact, this one will be my first "cougar" type story, something new my muse latched onto and refuses let go.     The characters first appeared in my head as the heroine peered out a kitchen window, trying to convince herself that she could never have the man standing behind her, mostly because of the ten year gap in their ages... the hero, however, had other plans...
[image error] UNEDITED EXCERPT: "You really shouldn't be here. Someone may get the wrong idea." Kate grabbed her teacup from the table then turned away and placed it in the sink. The nerves at the nape of her neck tingled. She knew he was watching her every move."Everyone's gone to the square for the fireworks," Vander replied in a hushed almost whispering tone. The security light from the Gibb's Body Shop across the street, shone bright through the small kitchen window above the sink. The setting sun cast an eerie yet peaceful glow across the evening sky and Kate held her breath as his footsteps moved nearer. "Have you set-up and prepped for later?"Hot breath filtered down her back as Vander leaned over her shoulder. "I've done everything you've asked me to do, Kate."Kate's heart pounded louder, to a near deafening level. "Please?" Her body ached for his touch, defying everything she knew was right. "You really shouldn't be here like…like this.""There's no other way I can be here, Kate. I'm done with pretending."She gripped the counter and squeezed her eyes shut. If only she could wish him away. If only she could make him see how impossible all of this really was. The threat of tears burned her eyes. Why won't he just stop?
And finally, my muse not only stirred up a story that leaped across my genre field, it's forced me to drag out and dust off my never before used pseudonym, Tyler Robbins. Just so readers won't be confused, this alter ego will be able to have her own moment in the sun and so will the genre she plans to tackle... Male/Male romance. SHOCKED? Join the club. To tell the truth, the initial idea behind this story wasn't my own. Although I enjoy M/M romance and joke quite often that I love boys who love boys, I hadn't planned to tackle the genre so early in my career. However, that all changed a few months back shortly after the withdrawal of the U.S. Military's policy of "Don't ask, Don't tell", when I was approached my the parent's of my youngest daughter's best friend. They (a heterosexual couple, just in case you're wondering) happened to mention that they would love to see a story written "after" the policy was no longer in practice... sort of a reality of it all type story.I've played around with the premise and have even started writing it, but trust me...THIS one will be written with the utmost respect for our Nation's Military and those brave men and women of all religions, race, sexual orientation and the like. The primary message my heart wants to relay is that no matter our differences, we all love our country and all have a right to protect it.  Will I lose readers? Maybe, but the way I see it, if I lose readers because I believe in equality for all, then they probably weren't reading my books in the first place. If you follow my blog or have read my books, then you probably already have an idea of how I think... everyone has the right to love...even shapeshifters and vampires!! LOL!
[image error] Excerpt:"Hey, um, where are you from anyway?" Jared's Adam's apple bobbed up and down."Texas," Michael replied. "Near Houston."A crooked smile spread across Jared's lips, those oh so kissable lips. "Dallas," he snorted. His shoulders shrank and his blue eyes darkened as the mood in their hideaway took on a solemn air. "It's nice to know there's another Texan around. You know? Someone who understands the way we think. The way we were raised here in the south…"Michael wasn't sure what Jared meant. "I'm not following."Jared's cheeks flushed bright red. "You know, someone from up north or the west coast may get the wrong idea, the two of us in this stall… at night…alone…"Michael squared his shoulders, suddenly feeling two feet taller than he had when he first walked into the bathroom with the much larger man. He leaned into Jared's neck area and purposefully inhaled slow and deep, subtly inching Jared against the wall behind them. "Anyone with brains would know right away what this is, Corporal."Jared's eyes widened and all color drained from his cheeks. "And wha—what is that?"Michael eased even closer, placing his mouth millimeters from Jared's ear. "Two grown-ass men having a smoke." Michael gave the wall a quick pound and pushed open the stall door.Halfway across the room, he heard Jared exclaim, "Shit!"Michael smiled, knowing full well that just because Jared Prophet may have swung his bat on the down-low, didn't mean he and Michael weren't playing for the same team. Sweet.
Well, there you have it. Another peek into the strange and sometimes twisted mind of a romance author. What I've learned over the last couple of years is that although there is no sure fire method to my madness, the final product is what counts, the journey just makes the story all the sweeter. If you don't believe me, just check out some of my already published works. I'd love to hear your thoughts of how you think they turned out.You can download them by clicking their links on the sidebars. I may not have been the cover artist for those titles, but my publisher certainly did a great job translating the way I pictured them in my head.

Sybil has nothin' on author Rawiya

Guilty by Association again?       When it comes to author Rawiya... yes, yes, and yes!
If you don't know this uber-talented author, then you're missing out on one of our most Wickedly Sexy Writers to date!! Rawiya isthe sweeter and sensual muse of author Sharita Lira. (See, I'm not the only one whose muses come to life, even if it is within my own mind.) Sharita's muses write, too!Rawiya has shorts publishedthrough XOXO, STARbooks, and will have her first novella released in Februaryfrom Naughty Nights Press part of the Something New on the Menu collection called Timeto Make the Donuts. Rawiya considers herself the real world eroticaauthor, penning all of her work in contemporary settings that everyone canrelate to.
Don't let her modesty fool you, the woman behind Rawiya, B.L Morticia and Michael Mandrake is awesome. In fact, one could say she's once... twice... three times a lady... oh, and one super cool guy, too! *hey, Michael, honey!Like I said before, Sybil has nothin' on this multi-personality crew!This author comes not only with multiple personalities, she comes with different genres and so many different stories with different messages it boggles the mind. Rawiya is far from the least when it comes to those delicious tales. But don't take my word for it, let her work speak for itself:
Andre,a customer, comes in and pays him a visit. The two lock eyes and immediatelyconnect on a personal level. Because of this, Christopher decides to pursuewhen Andre passes him his card. He wonders what the young man does for a livinghowever, he's so smitten by him, Chris doesn't give it much thought.Littledoes the shop owner know, Andre actually works for his biggest competitor as asecret shopper and has been told to use any method necessary to find out thesecrets of the shop as well as convince him to sell his shop and become part ofthe national chain. WhenChristopher finds out, he has a surprise for Andre and deals with him in arather humorous way. Will he trust Andre once he finds out this fact? Will hegive up his shop under the pressure the well-known franchise? You can learn more about Rawiya and all the other muses who live inside the creative mind of Sharita Lira, but visiting her website and a few other cool sites. Check them all out!                                          The Triad                                                                                     http://www.thelitriad.com/
