Honestly, I think Alex Kingston would be a FANTASTIC Demeter. She’s beautiful, as goddesses in Greek mythology tend to be… I don’t know. She just looks like a harvest goddess to me???

@summerhelene
Nice! (Tag it on twitter too!)
Also, not that you asked, but Sophie Turner could be a fantastic Persephone opposite Ms. Kingston!

And while I’m at it… (lol) Danila Kozlovsky has both the “dark/quiet ruler of Hades”-Aidoneus thing going for him, but can also pull off the “god my wife is so fucking adorable look at her being a badass”-Aidoneus thing, too.
THE BIG NEWS

Receiver of Many and Destroyer of Light are being shopped for a possible TV series or movie!!!
Excited to be working with my new Executive Producer Summer Helene to bring Hades and Persephone to life… #Hollywood here we come!

Gina Torres

Taraji Henson
basical a black woman that some ‘umph’ you know capable of cruelty and being a mean petty bitch but still you know, not like a monster, that can then go and heal people (even though she’s the reason they are all dying, argh, Demeter is such a perfect non-evil villain)
[Persphone should totally be Antonia Thomas or maybe naomie harris]
Demeter: Fancast
I wanted to try and find Greek actresses or at least actresses who are Greek-American or part Greek because I just find it completely stupid that most movies and shows about ancient Greece and Rome are almost solely populated by actors who are in no way of Mediterranean descent, who annoyingly have English accents. (Literally, WHY do they have English accents? It’s not taking place in ancient England. They aren’t English, wtf. It’s been bothering me for years.)
So in the interest of having characters from a certain culture portrayed by the people descended from that culture, this is my list.I was looking for someone who I thought looked matronly but who looked like they could do “nice, loving” mom as well as “hell hath no fury and you are totally punished” mom.
In no particular order:
Melina Kanakaredes

It seems like she gravitates more towards dramatic work. She played Athena in the first Percy Jackson movie, so we already know she might do something that involved Greek Myths.
Rita Wilson
![]()
I actually didn’t know she was Greek for a long time, mostly because of her stage name. She’s done a lot of dramatic work and played moms in a few things before. She also produced Big Fat Greek Wedding.
Nia Vardalos
![]()
Yes, of Big Fat Greek Wedding fame. She’s done some dramatic things as well as comedic things.
Elizabeth Perkins![]()
Another actress I didn’t know was Greek because of her name. She’s done comedic as well as dramatic work. She played Alcmene in a tv series about Hercules so she might be interested in playing a goddess in another Greek myth.
Anyway, that’s my list of lovely Greek actresses that, to me, could play loving moms as well as someone ready to destroy the world in order to get her daughter back :)

I feel like I’m continually screaming about @kata-chthonia books because they’re my favorite, and I’ve recently started rereading them again and I’m still screaming tbh.
Congratulations on the possible adaption of your works!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much! Even getting this far is incredible. I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
Can I just admit that I will probably never be able to take Nonnos' "Dionysiaca" as canon to mythology. Not only does he make Zeus father Dionysus with Persephone (Jeez even Ovid mentions that parental incest was considered deeply taboo), but according to
That’s the thing about all the lore written in the Hellenic, Hellenistic and Roman eras. There is just so much to parse and so many different traditions.
When I write, I try to find a good middle ground without straying too far away from the core mythos. And if I do, I usually have a good reason. The parentage lines you mentioned above will definitely never be part of my canon, I assure you.
So happy for you! I just hope that when they adapt it, they keep essential elements. I quite enjoyed that this Hades wasn't a philanderer like Zeus. Hades is also wise and just Persephone is more developed as a goddess.
Thank you! I agree, and my goal here is to have some level of input.
I’ve definitely spoken with my EP about this, and look forward to what will happen as this develops!

Hi there! Thank you so much for what a beautiful, moving, vivid series you've given us! As I eagerly await TGC, I've been trying to track down the Thrice-Plowed Field and can't seem to find it. Is it no longer purchasable? Thanks!
It hasn’t been published yet. I have it about 90% wrapped, and in the interim had a baby, so I’ve been away from the keyboard this year. My grand high hope is to get it published by Christmas.
The Good Counselor is being written right now.
