If you are a fan of classical mythology…
If you are a strong, independent woman or love strong, independent women…
If you like truly romantic stories with good characters and a plot to match…
Then you need to check out Rachel Alexander’s Receiver of Many.
It’s an incredibly well-researched and beautifully written story of Hades and Persephone that tells the story not only accurately, but in a way that doesn’t reduce Persephone to the passive prize she’s usually seen to be and instead makes her the strong Iron Goddess she was always meant to be. If you like stories of strong men who can be brought to their knees by even stronger women, this is the one for you!

Receiver of Many
People this is serious. Greek mythology Fandom is hardcore to the Kore! A proof of this is this amazing ^book ^. Just sayin’ we even have a book written by one of us…
RECEIVER OF MANY
So I want to take a minute to sing the praises of this book I found a while back.
Anyone who knows me, knows that I’m all about stories. I live, breathe, and adore tales of all natures, but I’ve always had a huge soft spot for Greek mythology.
Because of this I’m kind of a snob when it comes to retellings, and I’m the pickiest about adaptations of Hades X Persephone. It’s very hard to impress me on this matter because so many authors don’t do justice to their story. In fact, I’ve never found an adaptation I’ve liked well enough to recommend to other readers.
Then a few months ago I stumbled across kata-chthonia‘s story. I started it with some trepidation after being let down time and again by other retellings. Reading one chapter led to reading another, and one hour became two until it was dawn and I couldn’t remember what I had just been watching on television (it took a few minutes to realize I’d been reading).
Now I tell y’all this so I can try to adequately convey how incredible Receiver of Many is.
Rachel Alexander has gone above and beyond what I could have ever hoped for as both a reader and a fan of Greek mythology.
Her prose is simply beautiful, and so easy to get immersed in. And her characterizations of the gods that we’re all so familiar with (and those that we aren’t) is phenomenal! She’s breathes a new, fresh life into the portrayls of Hades and Persephone, of Demeter and Hecate, that is so refreshing. She’s fleshed them out beyond the tropes they are often confined to, and made them into fully realized people with heartaches, motivations, and needs.
I would be remiss in not mentioning the research that has gone into this work, which was a huge hook for me. Customs of the era, the original myths, the language- Even the clothing of the time period has been meticulously studied to set as authentic a scene as possible.
Receiver of Many is available on September 23 in both e-book and physical format. You can pre-order both now (the hard copy is actually on sale at the moment). This is the first half of the epic love story of Hades and Persephone that Ms. Alexander has crafted. The second part, Destroyer of Light, is due out on March 20, 2016, and the sequel to both, The Good Counselor, is currently in production.
So anyone who is looking for a great retelling of Greek mythology (specifically Hades and Persephone), a romance with a heroine who comes into her own and takes control of her destiny (and also features some very steamy, well written sex scenes), or just a good read in general, I urge you to treat yourself and pick up Receiver of Many.

So a lot of you are already aware of my deep love for Receiver of Many by Rachel Alexander, or kata-chthonia. I’m sure a few of you actually found me through my various fake show posters, gifsets, or general ramblings about this story. Well, here’s another inevitable one.
My love for Greek Mythology is incredibly deep, and the story of Hades and Persephone has been picked apart and reshaped in so many different ways that never seemed to fully justify much as far as retellings generally go. At least that was the case for me until I read this. I’ll never regret how many times I’ve read and reread this story, and I think you’ll feel the same way if you haven’t yet had the chance to read it.
Originally Receiver of many started out as something of a fanfiction on AO3. It’s an erotic retelling of the old myth following Hades and Persephone, full of action, incredible details, diversity, spectacular vision, and an incredibly wonderful romance that will have you falling in love along with the our main characters. So many pieces of this novel are beyond satisfying. The accuracy brings this old myth to life in an unexpected, modern way. The development, attention to the details and implementation will make you beyond happy.
I honestly can’t talk up this story enough. I’d highly suggest buying the book and seeing the magic for yourself. One of my ultimate favorites by far!

Yes hello I am always late to the party
So, this is for the lovely kata-chthonia aka Rachel Alexander who wrote the amazing Receiver of Many, one of the most well-thought out and exciting adaptations of the Hades/Persephone myth I have ever read. It has great world building, convincing emotions, is romantic but does not erase the issues in the myth and avoids stereotypes without erasing much-loved clichés. Also, great smut. She puzzles together pieces of a mythological world and creates a new myth that is grand, moving, and more powerful than your regular fairy-taleish adaptation.
My watercolour..thing is based on the first few chapters of the book, because I cannot put so much awesome into a painting in so little time. It’s a miracle I even reached the deadline. I have a Greek tragedy to read and several articles too. Oops.
My design of Persephone is based on @asphodelon’s great art for the novel, whom Tumblr refuses to tag. Ugh. (my own Persephone looks much different, haha)

Just thought of a thing
I know a lot of people are into really well researched things and tbh if you go look at Rachel Alexander’s blog and the questions that she answers about the book, you’ll see just how carefully she researched everything. I’ve probably learned more about Greek literature and mythology by following her than I ever did in school (despite my World History class focusing on Greek culture for a good week and a half).
Anyways. You can get it here and here and here.
