There is no mythological record (at least that I’m aware of) where Nyx tries to overthrow Hades.
I much more like the idea (which I wrote into my version) that Nyx ruled over the Underworld in the time of the Protogenoi, before the sons of Kronos divided the cosmos.
The progression of night to day written into Receiver of Many I got straight from the Theogony, where Hesiod mentions that when Nyx is in the Underworld, Hemera (daylight) is above, and when Nyx is above, Hemera is below.

Seriously, if you even have a passing interest in Greek mythology, you have to read Rachel Alexander’s books! Her portrayal of the Hades/Persphone myth is so detailed, nuanced, and passionate, with great respect for the source myths! I can’t wait for her newest book, “The Good Counselor”!
