0lympian-c0uncil:

Ares: I have something to tell you.

Hephaestus: yeah?

Ares: I slept with Aphrodite

Hephaestus: And?

Ares: I thought you’d be more surprised.

Hephaestus: Oh, sorry.

Hephaestus: *in a shocked voice* And?

prokopetz:

Reading about Ancient Greece is like listening to a professor go “actually, [fucked up thing you may have heard] was not broadly true of Classical Greek society, and the inhabitants of most city-states would have found the idea disturbing”, and then a voice from the back of the room calls out “except for Athens!”, and the professor just sighs and is like “yes, thank you, Timmy… except for Athens”.

ot3:

to be honest there has never been a fictional character i’ve actually wanted to date. like. i want them to date each other. i don’t want myself as a person to be involved in this scenario whatsoever. what would i add to this narratively? what’s my thematic purpose in the narrative? immersion breaking.

child-of-light-and-fire:

Kk so the thing about Anne Rice

Anyways let’s focus on the good shit she did

1. Reinvented the Vampire genre away from the literal homophobia that was 19th century vampire literature (like Carmilla and Dracula, where the vampires represented taboo sexuality)

2. Wrote EXPLICITLY queer stories with complicated romance between male characters

3. Had canon Ace, NB, and gender non conforming rep at a time where that was simply not a thing

4. Spoke out against bigotry in the Catholic Church

5. Advocated for artistic expression and was anti censorship of art (yeah after she got over the fan fiction thing)

6. Was a queer person herself who broke down barriers in literature no one else had the balls to

7. Iconic fashion moments

8. Helped so many young people through experiences like depression, grief, and self discovery

9. Paved the way for modern fantasy authors m, I mean the genre was completely disregarded in academic circles before interview

10. Actually wrote complex female vampires and poc vampires, which is something authors seem to have trouble with even today

11. And she really just didn’t fucking care what other people thought

Look, I know Anne Rice is one of the infamous reasons fair use and artistic intent could have been ripped from us and all the fics we grew up reading had “CHARACTERS ARE NOT MINE PLEASE DON’T SUE!” disclaimers at the very top.

But the woman wasn’t Evil, okay? She was eccentric and overprotective and controlling, but all the people I see celebrating her death? Smells like misogyny, babe. Give me one reason she deserved death. Let a famous woman pass on without monsters being gleeful, damn.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here. Old Frater T has only three things he can’t stomach - Nazis, racists, and rapists. She was not any of those things. She was just a flawed human being like the rest of us. She made mistakes. Get over it. She was an amazing writer.

Queen of the Dead 089

There actually were some kind of medicinal tablets in the Greco-Roman world, at least in later antiquity. Six tablets in a tin box were discovered in a shipwreck dating to 140-130 BCE (way too late for this comic, so let’s say that Apollon started to make these tablets long before the humans).

Today I got a preview copy of Destroyer of Light. And it looked great, so now the printing starts for real! As soon as I get the rest of the books I’ll put them for sale in my Kofi shop.

(I’m so happy that this is finally happening, but going through the book reminded me of that this comic actually is seven years old. I’m drawing better now! XD This was also before I decided to tone down the conflicts between Demeter and Persephone a bit. Then again, most of the story is a flashback to where Persephone is pretty much the equivalent of a young teenager, so it maybe makes sense that their relationship is a bit more difficult here compared to later comics.)
